Hey All

I bought the momitsu V880N yesterday from Com-Tek and got her up and running last night with no probs.

I have the unit connected to my DVD server and streaming DVD's in 10 minutes everything is being upscaled to 720p (This is my preference) without a glitch.

PQ on DVD is in a word AWESOME

Very much the same user interface as the Neuston and same server software

Hi glenncol

Is 720p - 720p x 50 frames per sec (as apposed to 720p x 25 frames per sec)?

What is the electrical connection from the V880N(i.e. component, RGBHV, DVI)?

Does the V880N have the chroma bug (which may not even matter)?

tried newly released The Day After Tomorrow. Exquisite on DVD & ethernet using DVI and customised settings as posted earlier.

This 2 DVD release the movie is over 6g long.

Could you add a few words on how the PQ compares to the Denons that you have?

Hi all,

I need some expert opinion here.

I presently have the Marantz DV4300

The manual says "Progressive ON = 480p out.

However, I have noticed that most discs I play, come up as 576p on my HD Plasma screen.

A couple of dodgy (copies) come up as 480p.

What I would like to know is:

My plasma is HD capable, but no DVI input, I am using "RGBHV" for 1080i.

I "DO NOT" have an HTPC.

would it be worth while buying the "Momitsu" if I can only use Component out ?

Cheers

Glen can you please do me a huge favor, can you compare the upscaling PQ on component and then on DVI and see if there is a great deal of difference.

Thanks Angelo

hey Angelo not a hugh difference as will most devices DVI is a little sharper where as always component is a tad softer.

If you are worried about loosing you DVI port dont

Momitsu are releasing a component video input board for this unit which will your HD box via compnent and convert to DVI out put

It is my understanding that with the Momitsu (only) you can get a DVI to VGA adapter which will provide RGBHV. Next question, I suspect will be "How do I connect my display to dual RGBHV sources?" which may be achieved with a computer type console switching device.

So if I bought a Momitsu V880N and wanted to connect it to my Sony KVHR32M31, my best option would be to use the DVI to VGA adaptor on the Momitsu to connect it to the RGBHV ports on the Sony. Would this give me better PQ than a component connection?

How much are the Momitsu V880N's anyway?

Glenncol,

In the "Secrets" tests, the Momitsu 880 (can't remember if it was an 'N') had a terrible falloff in high frequency response - implying very poor 'fine' detail on an HD screen. Any comments on this - or comparative PQ against one of your Denons?

Ian

Secrets test was for Component output, NOT DVI....

I'll be taking a guess here, but I think Momitsu via DVI will be much better than older Denon via Component; I guess Glenncol can confirm....

Ofcourse, the Denon's new series also does upscaling via DVI, and THAT would be fair comparison.....

BTW: I think the "non N" had various issues raised in the other forums. If I recall correctly, there were several batches/versions.

I've been tossing up whether to get one of these (non-N or N) for a while now, but I still am to be convinced on the benefits versus the expensive (ie Denon) stuff. (And would love an HD-STB+DVD combo! {or HDSTB-PVR-DVD !!!}, as theres obviously going to be a marked difference between externally up-scalled versus internally-derived.)

Hey guys

The momitsu looks bloody good compared to my Denon DVD900 kills it for detail and is right up there with the 2900.

I did not notice any problems with 880N at all and would ove more time testing it.

The video streaming is also top notch a

There has been a few changes from the V880 and the V880N i tried the Mom with component but had to do a little re calireation ont he Plasma wich came up fantastic.

Speaking of calibration i have one of the guys from the CRT A-Team coming to Melb ina could of weeks and have organised to calibrate the NEC using is equipment .

I may als get him to calibrate my CRT Projector while here (It will be a long night)

But just dont tell him that after he's finished painstakingly callibrating it for all your sources, you'll get rid of them and get a bunch of new toys straight away!
