alessiman Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 Hi all, Turning over to Channel Seven and lo and behold the Racing is on in glorious 4:3 Does anyone know if this will be for the whole season? Surely the "Big" races WS Cox Plate, Caulfield and Melbourne Cup would be in 16:9? Then again this is seven we are talking about....... Henry
JB Melb Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 While I agree with most of what is said about Seven's lack of 16:9 coverage of sports. But, as I pointed out numerous times during the Spring Racing Carnival last year, Seven receive the same feed from Sportscolour that is provided to Sky Channel who only broadcast 4:3. So no, I don't see any of the Spring Carnival to be available in 16:9.
'ct' Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 JB Melb get your facts straight!!! The feed that comes out of Flemington is provided by Sportscolour, the full time on-course vision provider as contracted by the VRC, not SKY!!! Seven being the host broadcaster for the Spring Carnival gets to dictate what format Sportscolour provides on the day, not SKY!!! This is the only time of the year SKY can not dictate and as such are forced to take what they can receive from the host broadcaster!!! When TEN had the rights, they being the then host broadcaster had the right to dictate what format Sportscolour was in, being 16:9!!! As SEVEN now have the rights, the feed will more than likely be 4:3. Sky does not even get a direct feed of the Spring Carnival, as they are forced to take the host broadcasters off-air feed!!! This being more the case when TEN had the rights, as SKY themselves had to centrecut ARC for SKY the incoming 16:9 feed from TEN!!! I repeat, SKY are not in a position to dictate the format for the Spring Carnival, only SEVEN does!!!! The fact that SKY is still 4:3 has nothing to do with this, as SKY are able to ARC from various race tracks all the time that send feeds in 16:9. ct
laurie Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 I think it's about time those responsible for the sport TELL the broadcasters 16:9 or loose it.....then again it appears those that are responsible don't give a $hit they want only the money, and not to present their product in the best possible format cheers laurie
JB Melb Posted October 9, 2004 Posted October 9, 2004 Well its in widescreen (so far)....although the black bars at the top and bottom seem a bit larger EDIT: no it must have just been the angle I was looking from.
blairy Posted October 9, 2004 Posted October 9, 2004 Does this mean we can no longer refer to them as Channel 4:3? Never thought I'd say it but well done 7...mind you, it's about time.
Champion_R Posted October 9, 2004 Posted October 9, 2004 The picture quality looks like arse. It would be close to or if not the worst sporting picture quality I have ever seen. Definately some analogue links in there.
