Champion_R Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Seven have got some nerve with the advertising of this movie. They say "for the first time in HD" showing their HD logo in full screen. I have no intention of watching Titanic even if it was on 1080i. I'm just fed up with Seven's false advertising.
sky1503559762 Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Thanks for the new thread, but might I suggest that in Australia your statement is less than truthful. That or the DBA is lying. DBA CHART
Star1503559755 Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 Any chance of a capture of the HD advertisment? The one i saw on Prime was fast and no mention of HD.
robertr Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 I would like to know who the hell at the Seven Network watches what they broadcast. We all know that the 576i transmission is infinately better than the 576P transmission. I refuse to watch the garbage that this mediocre outfit tries to pass as HD. Their SD broadcasting is of good quality. It is their 576P transmission which is compressed to a totally unacceptable level. I have asked this question on numerous occasions without one reply why do peoples faces on 576P broadcasts have a purplish tinge? when it is not apparent on 576i. Also the blockiness of trees & moving clumps on 70 is a disgrace. Robert
stones Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 might I suggest that in Australia your statement is less than truthful. That or the DBA is lying The other way around. ch $even is less than truthful, and perhaps you work for them. DBA is being diplomatic and passing on what is in legislation, but you know that already. If DBA thinks that 576P is not 'really' HD as to 99% of forum members then they will not say of course. Even ch $even knows that 576P is not real HD, they in an industry document admitted such.

DBA CHART <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You need to look a bit further back through the postings on this forum to get the context of Champion_R's post NB: I had the exact same feeling when I saw the ridiculous massive "HD" ad the other day. (And I doubt I'll ever watch the trash that was Titanic, btw).
robertr Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 The purple tinge in peoples faces was apparent on the Sony KVEH36M31 & also on the Sony KVHRM31. I suggest that you check this by switching between 70 & 7 closely examine skin tones & you will notice what I am talking, about especially Home & Away, I cant believe that it it the monitor playing tricks. Wired1503559622 Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 I can see that on 7HD it's over-saturated. On Home and Away everyone's face is way too red and for that matter every channel 7 HD production (ie News, Great Outdoors etc). I find it hard to accept it's my equipment when other channels look fine.
cza Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 I also notice some differences in their analogue stream to other channels: the frame rate is weird i don't know it's me but it doesn't look normal (i.e. in Home and away it kinda looks slow?) hmm it's kind of hard to explain. I've also noticed it on the SD/HDTV stream.

Digicruiser Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 OK, if it's not the equipment, why doesn't the tint show up when the box converts 7's HD 576p video into 576i for a normal TV?

Star1503559755 Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 Thankyou kindly Winston, does this advertisment appear on analouge aswell? I saw the full Titanic add on Prime and it is very different to that
Star1503559755 Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 Thankyou again. Seven this makes no sense! I know a numbe of movies have been shown, so what makes this one so great? The sad thing about it, in every way it really isnt HD, a weaved DVD will look better than Seven HD - I have never heard someone say a HD was HD, so how Seven get away with it is beyond me.
EvanOnTheGC Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 The DVD is in 4:3 Letterboxed widescreen. Will Seven show a 16:9 anamorphic widescreen version? Evan :->
Wired1503559622 Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 The DVD is in 4:3 Letterboxed widescreen. Will Seven show a 16:9 anamorphic widescreen version? Well channel 7 is saying it will be in HD (native HD is 16:9) so obviously it will be widescreen. TV networks do not use DVD's as source material. And it's being shown on Sun 3rd Oct (ie tonight) not the 5th (which will be a Tuesday) as said in the title.
Star1503559755 Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 Well this is the best PQ I have ever seen in my life. Weaving Prime SD it looks brilliant- every winkle, hair, crack etc is perfectly visable. To me, the picture is HD, I watch in awe of this movie and its PQ. Generous bitrate aswell - ~7.6mbits. Enough Seven bashing, the DVD couldnt dream of matching this broadcast - im not even viewing it on 7HD (but I may as well be, weaving SD makes a perfect 576p image) I couldnt be happier - just such a crisp, clear, vibrant picture that is sure to turn heads. BTW Anthony on Idol left me crying! Brilliant aswell.
Ryan1503559697 Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 i must say the PQ is great but i carnt see any diff between SD and HD. Cheers Ryan BTW Anthony on Idol left me crying! Brilliant aswell. I couldnt agree more he was fantastic

I couldnt agree more he was fantastic <{POST_SNAPBACK}> yes don't know if its sd or hd either but looks fantastic anyway. no 5.1 thats a pity! yes anthony was pretty amazing - think hes going to win it ! ok back to titanic!
hab01i Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 Yes don't know if its sd or hd either but looks fantastic anyway. no 5.1 thats a pity! The 2.0 sound Sounds fantastic anyway, my subwoofer is getting a real workout.
betty boop Posted October 3, 2004 Posted October 3, 2004 Yes plenty of sub action indeed. Infact at one stage the cat got a bit spooked when it thought it was going down with the titanic on the ottoman it was sitting on! Good surround effects and front staging too. Actually I'm going to have to say this movie had the best audio track of anything I've ever seen on TV and all this via humble prologic too. Imagine how it would be like if it was in DD5.1 On PQ I was very impressed indeed. This was very much in HD also very beautifull colours and skin tones and great details. At one stage I loaded in the titanic dvd and fast forwarded to the same scene as being broadcast to do a quick comparison. The DVD picture looked washed out and totally lacking in detail by comparison - almost like there was a fog/mist over the whole picture from DVD. Well done Seven ! is all I can say. Lets have some more HD movies !!!!
