JasonBB Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 I tend to get a lot of sound drop outs on channel 10 from my toppy, they seam to be worse from around 10 pm on, I have the toppy running optical to my amp. Channel 10 seams to be the only one I am having trouble with. I have Tony's tap but the lowest signal I get is about 92% and quality doesn't seam to move off 100% Its been like this for ages but seams to be getting worse. Any ideas?
djOS Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 it's less noticable when using PCM but I have the same prob with both signal & quality strength @ 100%.
Dave T Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 I have the same problem with my Thompson to My Dennon and have been told this is a problem with some Japanese amps and Thompson is working on a fix.
bruiser333 Posted September 29, 2004 Posted September 29, 2004 I get this especially on Sydney Channel 10 with Quality 98%, Strength 72% (I get lots actually). Its worse on the AC3 vs the PCM soundtrack via the A/V Receiver , but I also get them through the TVs sound, so I don't think it's necessarily the fault of the Amp. I assumed that it's because my signal strength & quality for ch10 is not too flash and leaves me susceptible to interference, but if others are getting this with good quality & strength then I wonder if there is another reason...
JasonBB Posted September 30, 2004 Author Posted September 30, 2004 I recorded The Panel last night I counted 31 sound drop outs, that cant be acceptable, I checked Tony's info display throughout all with no problems with strength or quality. Does anyone know if Info display works in recorded programs or is it on the live channel at the time?
tonymy01 Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 It is on live.. how can you measure the signal strength on a recording???? Didn't you notice the program information is from the current channel EPG? I get brief glitches on Nine. Ten is perfect for me.. Regards
JasonBB Posted September 30, 2004 Author Posted September 30, 2004 Well, it records everything else, how often is the min updated? is it from when the box was turned on? It seams odd I have 100% on min, now & max and still have sound drops outs.
tonymy01 Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Every 0.3seconds. But brief impulse noise is likely not to change the numbers.. Regards
bruiser333 Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Jason, If you are getting drop outs and your signal seems ok, then you are likely to be picking interference from somewhere - via your antennae, cabling or power supply depending on who you talk to. The first thing people say when you mention interference is to make sure you have quad shield RG6 coax with F connectors (including wall plates), and replace any old screw & saddle type splitters with new shielded F connector splitters. Having said that, it hasn't solved my problems, which leads me to suspect the interference is entering via the antennae (I would recommend making sure your flylead is quality quad shield coax and not one of those cheap & nasty moulded PAL plug leads, I have found replacing that made a difference). You can try turning off your electrical items (like fridges, washing machines, dishwashers, etc), and seeing whether the interference reduces. I'm pretty sure I pick up interference from neighbours, so it may not help you either. I have seen in other posts that you should use band 3-5 antennaes for digital because they are less susceptible to interference, but haven't tried so I can't comment. Welcome to digital tv...
JasonBB Posted September 30, 2004 Author Posted September 30, 2004 Hi, I would agree with you but I only have the problem with channel 10, I have spoken to Jai he said it could be something channel 10 is doing but everyone else should be getting the same thing....I will take it in to topfield to get checked out.
bruiser333 Posted September 30, 2004 Posted September 30, 2004 Jason, Please post on how you get on with Topfield. I get regular audio dropouts, but much worse on Ten - some of these I know are from electrical devices in the home (light switches, dishwasher etc), but most I'm pretty sure come from neighbours or are as a result of some outside source. Regards, Bruiser
JasonBB Posted October 1, 2004 Author Posted October 1, 2004 Jai is away so I will wait till he gets back, I did notice last night I was watching law & order live and it was much better, maybe only 3 drop outs. I do get glitches when switching lights on and off but I don't know if there is much I can do about that. Tony, on your info display there is min, now & max I guess now is updated every .03 seconds, is min & max from when it was turned on?
tonymy01 Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 I am pretty sure the readme gives the info. It is relevant until when you change the channel, then it resets. If you don't change the channel, then I guess it is since power up, or when the tap was started. Regards
