Ryan1503559697 Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 Gday Laurie ive just been on the EYO forums and it seems that alot of the retailers have already released it before the official release date of tommorow, and that they have been paying $69.95 which aint to bad. Cheers Ryan P.S Apparently at JB with coupon from catalogue $59
MelwayMan Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 Hiyas, I picked up my copy from JB HiFi in Keilor (Melb) this afternoon for $69.98. Sound and audio quality is excellent, although some parts of the dialogue sound a bit grainy. I'm not sure if that's an effect, or a legacy of the original masters. The covers indicate that all soundtracks are in DD5.1EX, but only Empire and Return of the Jedi automatically flagged the 6th channel on my reciever. (Yamaha RXV-1400) Tim

(Yamaha RXV-1400) Tim I have the same issue on my Yamaha RXV-540 with Episode I & II! DD-EX doesn't not get auto-detected... you manually have to switch it to EX and then it works fine. Other DD EX titles are fine though. Wierd. M.B.
RodN Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 It's an awesome transfer, a really nice remastering of the sound track too. Images are superb! It's $62.98 from JB with a voucher not $59. See DVDPlaza for more details on pricing.
laurie Posted September 21, 2004 Author Posted September 21, 2004 a really nice remastering of the sound track too nobby Thats the only fault I can find but since its a source problem I'm not too worried but the difference in dymanic range can be heard when Fox's logo first come's on then the original before the movie the difference on my system sound tinny/echo but bl00dy hell that THX intro caught me by surprised my ears are still ringing and the picture quality on my pj @150" is fantastic this is one movie that small tv's cannot do it justice ps I got this from Macquarie Shopping centre near Top Ryde Sydney the difference in prices is amazing HMV = $89.99 Sanity = $90.00 Target = $80.00 DSE = $66.83 Big W = $66.83 how in the hell HMV ever sells things amazes me but the biggest surprise is Target the poor sales guy was very embrassed when I told him Big W next door to them price was cheers laurie

Cheers Ryan
betty boop Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 theres a review here on "what's changed and whether the picture and sound quality do the movies justice..." http://www.totaldvd.net/cgi-bin/dvdreviews...?reviewid=11164
Youtwo1503559785 Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 This pack has been well worth the long wait. Superb picture and sound quality. It is a must buy for all those out there that grew up with Luke Skywalker, Yoda and Darth Vader figurines as their favourite toys.
FMB Posted September 22, 2004 Posted September 22, 2004 To true Laurie i have seen people in HMV and Sanity purchasing dvd's that are available at 3 or 4 other outlets in the same shopping centre for 20,30 or even 40% less.Although every now and then i have picked up a bargain or 2 at sanity, but when i see someone paying $79.95 for the simpsons when it is $33.95 down stairs that concerns me Why would anyone buy a DVD from somewhere like HMV or Sanity? I buy all my DVD's from K-Mart or Big W. It's exactly the same product, they have documented price-matching policies and it's not like you need expert product knowledge or after sales service. If it's faulty, you have a better chance of returning it for a replacement from these stores anyway. Now I just have to wait until next Wednesday for my copy because my wife has banned me from buying it myself so she can get it for my birthday.

kootaberra Posted September 23, 2004 Posted September 23, 2004 It's an awesome transfer, a really nice remastering of the sound track too. Images are superb! Have a look at this site. They linked some 600 2 GHz G5s with 4GB of RAM. They took over 2 months to "clean" up Sar Wars" and think the average frame had up to 1,000 bits of dirt per frame. http://www.apple.com/pro/film/lowry/
laurie Posted September 23, 2004 Author Posted September 23, 2004 And it looks far better on a progressive scan player cheers laurie
betty boop Posted September 24, 2004 Posted September 24, 2004 woohooo!! picked it up on the way home from DJs the girl there was extremely nice - I asked how much it was she said $89 - the 15% off theyre having at the moment but without prompting she said - "but we do match prices - think its been selling for $6* something, I'll check for you if you like" She rang JB and found theyre retailing for $69 and she gave it to me for that - thought that was very nice of her - thats what I call service well done DJs and it saved me the trip there too. looking forward to having a peep at it over the weekend! - now if only I had a decent progressive scan dvd player..... ps if using an xbox player be wary of this one: "New Star Wars DVD package could cause trouble with your Xbox http://www.homecinemachoice.com/cgi-bin/shownews.php?id=6908 Reader Paul Parkinson has tipped us off to the fact that if you try to launch the Extra Special Features Disc of The 'StarWars Trilogy DVD boxset on an Xbox, it will automatically update your Xbox dashboard – without asking you. This is because the disc contains a preview demo of the new Xbox StarWars Battlefront game. Most people probably won’t mind this too much (aside from possibly disliking the basic principle of having their Xbox dashboard updated for commercial reasons without having a say in the matter), but it could be a problem for people with older Xbox systems or people using modified Xboxes. For more info, take a look at the forums on xbox-scene.com."
