Hi all...

I just bought my Teac dvb420, and it' s great. I am running it with the supplied RCA lead to the TV. I believe this is composite video.(??) I have never seen tv this clear.

Please bear with me, as I am new to all this video stuff and have no idea what all this RGB, Svideo, composite is all about.

Anyway, I want to use the scart connector and run the system in component (RGB..??) or S-video (PS2 looking connector).

Can someone advise me as to which method is the best, and what leads do I need. I am aware that there is an issue with pin outs with the 420's.

Many thanks..!!!!

Wayne.

I am no expert and not familiar with your stb but you want either component or RGB if your stb outputs it. Then your TV needs to have the appropriate connectors. I have a Strong 5300 stb which will only ouput RGB through the Scart. Since I only have a component connection on my TV, I run it through an RGB/Component converter and it looks great.

As J.D. said, the best connection will depend on what inputs your TV has. The order of picture quality from worst to best is RF (aerial connection), composite (yellow, red and white leads), S-video, then component and RGB (which ARE different). I believe the pin out issue is only when recording from the 420 to a VCR, but I could be wrong. SO the best advice is take a look at your TV manual and check what it can take.

Ok....

My TV has:

- S Video (ps2 looking socket)

- RGB ( red, green, blue RCA's)

- Composite (yellow for video etc...)

- Monitor (single RCA)

Now, is RGB the same as component..??

Of these three options, which is the best? I understand that the Teac has a scart connector wiring issue. Can anyone enlighten me a bit further? The thread I read about it is not making much sense to me.

What connector lead should I use? Please be specific if you can. This is all a learning process.

As I said before, I'm sorry for all the questions. I am trying to learn about all of this.!!!

The Red/Green/Blue RCA's on your TV are most likely to be Component (Y,Cr,Cb) rather than RGB inputs, to use RGB coloured RCA's is common with Component. Note pure RGB signals are also component but not the same as Y,Cr,Cb. As I said you TV sounds as though it supports Y,Cr,Cb component.

A component (Y,Cr,Cb) interconnection to your TV will provide you with the best interface. To achieve this you will require a SCART to Component breakout adaptor (Dick Smith P6676 @ $22.95) and three video cables for each of the three signals, Dick Smith C0528 will do the trick although there are possibly cheaper options. You will then need to go into the 420 setup and select Component out.

There is an issue with the Teac 420 if you wish to use the S-Video output (MiniDin looks like P/S2) you will need to get a modified SCART adaptor for that, thus try the Component output.

My TV has Scart inputs, I plugged in a Scart to Scart cable (Jaycar cheapy)

Jaycar Cheap Scart to Scart

Set the DV-B420 to RGB mode on it's SCART output, and was blown away by how much better the picture was.

No more fuzzy edges on things (like boxes etc), the colours were much richer and more vibrant.

Follow Cyril's very good advice and get the scart to component adaptor from Dick Smiths and a component cable. Your STB does component out, your TV does component in by the sound of it; you're all set. BUT this will only get you a picture; you will still need to run your typical red and white audio cables from the composite plugs on your STB to your TV to get sound.
