Here's an Acoustic Signature Challenger Mk2, complete with an Audio Origami PU7 tonearm!

How dare a brand named Origami design a dead straight tonearm? 😲

As I am a great lover of Hifi classics, I would like to present my latest project here.

It is a Thorens TD 124 MKI with an original Ortofon SMG-212 tonearm. Unfortunately, I no longer have the original Ortofon headshell, but this one fits quite well. Thorens connoisseurs will notice that the platter is black and not silver. It is the heavy original cast platter without the automatic quick start. A good friend and Thorens connoisseur from our AS community was kind enough to give me a complete overhaul of the Thorens.  Motor, bearings and friction wheel are completely overhauled. I then only renewed the tone arm board and the plinth  and thus helped a piece of hi-fi history from the sixties to new honours.

My main TT is a modified AT-LP120XUSB with a Nagaoka MP150 cart w/MP500 nude line contact stylus w/boron cantilever.  Typically, I doubt the 120X would be worthy of such a stylus, but I've done a number of tweaks and upgrades to enhance it about as far as I think it can go, and sounds wonderful (to me) with the MP500 stylus.

I also have a Thorens TD-124 Mk1, Dual 1215, and a modified Garrard Type A70 Mk2 w/Marantz tonearm and custom plinth.  The custom Garrard/Marantz was recently gifted to my son as part of a graduation present.  The Thorens got overhauled last winter, and I'm still deciding the best cart for it, but as soon as I get a chance I'll give it some hours on the main system.

A blast from the past. My jelco SA-750L finally went out from the hospital. 2 years ago I found after shipping misshap my tonearm had a broken centre pin. After going around to find a repairers I found Mark Doehmann of Doehmann turntable was willing to give the repair ago. But trying to get parts from jelco was challenging and when jelco closed down it was decided it's loss cause.

Fast forward to 4 months ago Mark found a donor jelco arm that he could transplant the refurbished bearing to my arm. Now it's back in service. The bearing was tuned to as good as it get for this arm from what hearing in my system. It's really smooth. I then bring back my old diy stacked ply plinth and gave it a new hardwood feet over the old springs. The Technics just sound better with solid feet.

From some angle the turntable looks like it's floating

Great thread!

My humble technics 1210s.. 21 years of use and still going strong!

Sound great through my mostly vintage setup.. High End Condesa Rotary mixer (Made in Adelaide!) > Marantz 3300 pre > Marantz 250M power > Magnificent Tannoy Arden HPD385 speakers (Alnico magnet MK1 version)..

Looking into upgrading the tonearms on both decksto Jelco or similar... These are used for both djing and Hifi listening so whilst I know there are much better Hifi tables out there.. I'm keen to find a middle ground between sound quality and function.

Any suggestions on great technics 1200/1210 upgrades?

Hi, This is my ''stand in SP15'' with Temaad Merlin Magnesium 12.5'' arm., while I finish off my hybrid Lenco Deck (about 80% complete)

The cart of the arm is a re-tipped upgraded MC25FL, VAS (no affiliation) in the USA fitted a Boron cantilever &  Micro line stylus, this little beauty can play with the big boys.

Cheers

Haven’t had any carts retipped by VAS but Steven was great to deal with when I got my VPI SDS off him.

Interesting looking arm you have there. 👍

My Lenco L78 with;

Stock arm.

VTA adjustment.

ATVM95Shibata.

David Harris Platter bearing upgrade.

Brass V-Blocks.

Powder-coated top plate.

New RCA cables and earth wire.

AT head-shell wires.

Fully serviced motor.

Fully serviced auto-stop.(It took me a while to figure out out how to fix it).

I am waiting to build a plinth and add sound insulation to the top plate. More photos to come.

I am impressed with the tone arm. It tracks well and sounds great.

First decent session with new addition FR24.

Pimped up mount with on the fly micrometer adjustment. Which l have not used yet cause probably should sit a bit lower but l will worry about it later.

Sounding superb as it is!7ED6A74C-5459-44A1-A8FF-4D582A2D2DF9.thumb.jpeg.edc43c763b1cc08fc630ac5f3c56ebf8.jpeg60CFEB6F-BE8E-4DB1-BEB7-8905823358CA.thumb.jpeg.fbb19dbe26a66ba10ac407e5887e70f6.jpeg77F67F87-2758-4A88-ABE3-9EAD092C3CB1.thumb.jpeg.9d9c8ca9489f0f497f07632b0b16fe27.jpeg
