(I tried to find a dollars & sense forum)

Hi,

A family member has come into hard times and is starting to sell all the "junk" he hasn't used in the last 10 years, he gave me a call last night knowing I'm into stereo gear & records.

He's got a:

--Perreaux - 1150B power

(had a friend working in Perreaux factory, took it back and had a lot of upgrades,  changed to a black shell)

--Perreaux - SM2 pre

--Perreaux - TU3

--Rega - Planer 3 (brought in the 80's, new belt, new rega cart and stylus although he can't remember which rega cart he was sold stylus is red)

I've got a couple of lux amps, l-85v, l100, thorens tts, 160b, 125mkii. Speakers yammie ns-690mkii, tannoy Cheviot

-How would his Perreaux gear stack up?

   - How good are the models I mentioned, or will this be a sidestep for me?

-If I were to offer him some money what is fair price for each piece, I don't want to come away with a great family rates deal given his situation, but I'm not into throwing away my money either.

Cheers hope this is in the right forum

You should listen for yourself, but I reckon the L100 will obliterate the Perreaux. Easily. The L85 should also show it a clean pair of heels too. Early Perreaux amps really were not great sounding amps, IMO. OTOH, the Luxman models you have were very good indeed. Turntables are a different matter. The Rega is a nice turntable with a superb arm. The 160b is a very nice turntable with an average arm. Dunno what arm is fitted to your 125-II, but it is also an excellent turntable.

Thanks for the responses @Zaphod Beeblebrox & @Janjuc, prices seem around what I would have expected, prob lower than what he was after. Being an NZ brand and selling here in NZ might garner a little more interest. We'll see what he plans to do with this information .

I might pick up the Planer 3 off him because you always need a new t/t right haha. Both my Thorens have the orig TP-16 arms, 160 mkii with the removable wand. I do want a some incarnation of SME arm for the 125mkii
