corza13 Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Hi All, My 6 yr old Panasonic PTA-E7000 is coming up to 3000 hours on the lamp and instead of a new lamp, I’m going with an upgrade. I have narrowed it I think to an Epson9300, JVC X550, Sony 45ES or Optoma 8000. Very hard to demo all of them back to back so I’d love some ideas. Room is light controlled, small at 3x4.5m. Screen is a 92inch 16:9 currently. I will also be going to a 110 or 120 inch cinemascope screen so I think lens memory is important. 95% of viewing is movies in widescreen format. I have an Oppo 203 UHD player as source. I’d love some opinions and if there is anything else I should be considering. Budget is max $5k
Quark Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Which wall is your screen on, 3m or 4.5m? Throw distance could be a limiting factor for screen size.
Quark Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 For picture quality, my first pick would be the JVC. If you can get 4.0m throw from lens to screen the JVC will just fill a 120" scope screen, but it would be very tight. The Epson will fill the same screen easily, might even pip in a 125" scope screen. For a 3.5m throw, you're down to 105" scope and 110" scope respectively.
