Guest scumbag Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 (edited) FS: Pass Labs X150.5 power amp' Location: Brisbane Price: $3950 plus freight if required. Item Condition: ExcellentReason for selling: Upgrading to another Pass Labs (what else)? If I can't get any interest I'll keep it. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash or Paypal, Paypal,(as a friend or add 3%) Extra Info: I got this very recently and it is a gorgeous "end-game" amplifier. Well it should be to a sensible person, which I am not obviously. I really love it with my PS Audio Direct Stream Junior. Also sounds amazing thorough my Level 2 PDX "last of breed" DAC. Fun times. It has been given the once over and it is in top condition, it's clean as a whistle inside and out. A well cared for unit - I think I am the third (perhaps brief) owner. I have double boxes to post it interstate if needed. It's a beast at about 37kgs. In terms of sound, I'm not going to say "tube like" because that's not what an X series Pass Labs sounds like. With the right source it is able to reproduce those delicate sounds of the human voice and solo instruments. It's got imaging depth and width. Detail is on a similar level to some very well regarded amp's that I've heard and owned but it reveals music is such a listenable way. On top of this, lots of grunt and deep and tuneful bass. This replaced an NAD C390DD and a Devialet LE 120 and I am looking to get a better Pass Labs if I can - I am a life time convert now. I have bought and sold a lot of gear of SNA (thanks SNA - donation coming if I sell this) and I have a good seller feedback so buy with confidence. Pictures: Pictures of actual unit. It actually look better in real life. The edges on the front and back in the photos look rough but in real life this is not the case! Edited July 13, 2017 by scumbag FS for reals
Guest scumbag Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 Lotsa metal for sure. Everything about this thing reeks of quality This is the later design with 40 Mosfets. 20 per channel with 10 working in one part of the super-symmetry circuit and 10 in the opposing side. You get very low distortion with the holy grail of limited feedback. https://passlabs.com/press/super-symmetric-amplification Not only do you get Class-A operation at reasonable volumes but you also get single-ended operation at very low volumes. Detail increases at low volume levels.
jakestar Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 Oh man. So drool worthy!! This is most folk's end game gear. If I had the spare coin..... GLWTS
slawrence436 Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 Should turn it on and show us the blue glow...Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

Guest scumbag Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 (edited) Your wish is my command - sorry but the office isn't very dark so the blue glow isn't all that obvious: Edited July 4, 2017 by scumbag

slawrence436 Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 Surprised Cafad hasn't jumped on board to add to his ever growing amplification....Hold on ...its not INTEGRATED[emoji6]Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

hammo1981 Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 @scumbag so the 150W is @8ohm? Is the 4ohm power rating 300W?? Cheers John

Some tests though have measured its output at around 180-190 watt RMS into 8ohms and 300 watts into 4ohms. Class A up to 10 watts RMS - 16 watts peak (or thereabouts depending on which figure you read and where!). Peak current is 18AMPS, peak voltage is 50V. https://www.passlabs.com/sites/default/files/x.5_specs_4.pdf Peak power from the power section is limited to about 1000watts - it could deliver 3000 watts but Nelson Pass has limited it to allow headroom in the design.
Guest scumbag Posted July 4, 2017 Posted July 4, 2017 Speaker matching (in case anyone is interested ) "The Pass Laboratories™ X150.5 is optimized for loads nominally rated at 4 ohms and above. You can run the amplifiers into a lower nominal impedance without difficulty, and we are not aware of a speaker on the market that presents unusual difficulty with these amplifiers. The X.5 series amplifiers do not care particularly about the reactivity of the load. Reactive loads typically will have slightly less distortion at a given voltage/current level than resistive loads, but will make the amplifier run a little hotter. The X.5 circuit was designed to be quite happy driving electrostatic and other difficult speakers." The manual makes for interesting and entertaining reading: https://www.passlabs.com/sites/default/files/X150.5_om.pdf

Are you sure about this? I would say it is much more than thatSent from my SM-P585Y using Tapatalk

I think Nelson Pass tends to echo the same grossly understated description that Rolls Royce used to when describing the power of their engines as "adequate". Edited July 4, 2017 by scumbag
