Extra Info:

I have used active, multi-amped systems ever since I heard a Naim/Linn Isobarik "six-pack" system in the 1970's. It is very hard to reproduce the immediacy and dynamics of an active system with a passive set up. I have used a variety of crossovers over the years  including three of these. Here you have a very highly regarded Japanese Accuphase F-25 two way solid state crossover stereo channel dividing network. These crossovers sound very, very good indeed and allow versatility in active system design and character. My regular crossover is a custom dual mono 4 way tubed 4 box set-up that sounds wonderful. It is still a pleasure listening to the four way F-25 when my valve crossover is being modified. The F-25 is a sophisticated, innovative design that uses a Gaussian curve design. This is an intricate and ingenious though very reliable piece of equipment.

The quality of build and components in these units is typical Accuphase all the way through. The chassis is beautifully constructed and the unpacked weight is 16kg. This unit is finished in their characteristic Accuphase champagne coloured fascia and darker anodized side panels. The top is removable and is retained by five screws and thick recessed collar washers.

The mains voltage is changed internally and this unit is set to 240V.

The three way version of the F-25 is very popular for frequency division in three way active systems - the dynamics and immediacy of actively driven systems is unsurpassed.

A single Accuphase F-25 stereo crossover unit is configurable as either a 2, 3 or 4 way active system through the addition of multiple modules. I was using two F-25's to create a five way crossover network where one unit was daisy-chained off the other. The three way configuration utilizes two DN-25 filter module and three LA-25 amplifier modules. The crossover points are changed using factory built cards that plug into the DN-25 filter modules. There were 21 individual filter frequency cards available from Accuphase. These range from 70Hz to 12.5kHz. The crossover slope setting is also adjusted through the DN-25 filter modules and they are configurable for 12,18 or 24 dB/octave slopes. The filter cards in this unit is for 500Hz and there is the choice of having it configured to 4.5kHz. The information is available for calculating the component values to create any crossover point you require.

There are separate output level controls for left and right channel on the LA-25 modules. The phase is also adjustable through this module and there is the facility to turn modules off when needed.

The F-25 has switchable balanced and RCA inputs and outputs

Spare crossover boards and amplifier modules are available through sites such as eBay, HiFi.Do and Yahoo.Japan.

I will supply a Japanese copy of the F-25 manual and an English version of the operating instructions complete with pictures and block diagrams with this unit.

Thanks Red! Yes indeed, they are a little known, extremely versatile and highly under-rated active cross-over.
