The Blues Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 I'm interested in subwoofers but no sure if my old equipment is compatible. Do you need specific amps or pre-amplifier to accommodate? I am running a Luxman L58a into Epos M22 speakers. Also have a cambridge audio dacmagic. The L58a has main and remote speaker terminals- can the remote speakers be used to power a sub? Does the dacmagic digital output have any use with a sub? Hopefully someone this forum can help with my rookie questions, thanks.
Guest Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 What are you going to achieve with a sub(s) for your stereo system? And what type of music do you listen to? That will help guide this discussion. A sub usually has its own amplifier so will need to take an un-amplified signal, e.g. from your dacmagic. To get a sub signal, you will need to sum the left and right channels. Ideally you should use a digital signal processor to combine the left and right signals and apply a filter for high frequencies.
The Blues Posted July 2, 2017 Author Posted July 2, 2017 Thanks Snoop, I have a very varied collection from folk to classical, soul to metal, blues to pop etc. Not really sure what I'm hoping to achieve, I just feel like experimenting with equipment. To be honest I was hoping I'd be able to just plug a sub into my existing set up. However I'm in the market for a second hand power amp and use the Luxman as a pre amp. Thanks for the info Snoop.
