Addicted to music Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 Any opinions, experience out there in reference to these Audio Technica headphones. im after a close back because the BOSS says she doesn't wanna hear what I'm listening to on my Beyerdynamic T90. Im after something that's efficient to be able to plug directly into an iPhone and it should give me the "wow" factor for very little money. I tried the M50 close back and thought "that's sounds Awesome". Ive heard headphones right up to $7k and not impressed on the money one would pay, the idea is that you can stick a pair of cans on top of your head and doesn't require $0000.00 to drive them properly, if you have to spend like this to get what you want so be it but I'm not interested in pay for a dedicated set up or $$$$ wise. I just need something simple. The T90 did that but it's open cans!
powerav Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 (edited) How about the audio technica in ear monitors? I had the 50's and while sounding great they can really clamp to your head and be a bit uncomfy. Edited June 28, 2017 by powerav 1

soundfan Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 I would suggest the Final Audio Sonorous III. $549 retail IIRC, and very easy to drive.
GregWormald Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 The Meze 99 Classic headphones are very easy to drive and work well for me. Greg
Chigurh Posted June 29, 2017 Posted June 29, 2017 (edited) Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 over-ear headphones are heavily discounted at the moment at Harvey Norman and Addicted to Audio. They get a five star rating on What Hifi. I was going to get the B&W P7's but I think I'll get the M2's as I can't resist a bargain. I have the AT M50's. I don't think anyone has ever regretted owning a pair of these. Excellent sound for the money. https://addictedtoaudio.com.au/collections/headphones/products/sennheiser-momentum-2-0-around-ear-headphones?variant=16063981443 http://www.harveynorman.com.au/headphones-audio-music/headphones/all-headphones/sennheiser-momentum-2-0-over-ear-headphones-ios-black.html https://www.whathifi.com/sennheiser/momentum-20-over-ear/review Edited June 29, 2017 by Chigurh to add links 1
Addicted to music Posted June 29, 2017 Author Posted June 29, 2017 @Chigurh Addicted to Audio also have the AT m50 and the m70 on special. The AT M70x are discounted to similar price as the Sennheiser m2.0. The M70 looks like it has a freq response right up to 40k ... i actually tried the AT M50x at JB HiFi with an IPhone and was blown away buy what it could do... what I like is that it gives a very detailed SQ and the micro details were very well presented.... I'm hoping that the AT M70x extends a bit more fornthe extra $100. All the other stuff at jb including some of there Sennheiser range came nowhere close but have to admit I think some were Bluetooth noise cancellations.

Chigurh Posted June 30, 2017 Posted June 30, 2017 @Addicted to music So I picked up a pair of the Sennheiser M2's yesterday. I would have to say that sonically they are way superior to my M50x headphones. They have very clear sound with loads of detail, sort of airy and by comparison the AT's have a heavier sound. The build is a lot classier too with the leather and stainless-steel. I don't think online photos do them justice. I bought the black ones but they are sort of a very dark grey and metallic looking, like a BMW. My only gripe with the M2's is how stingy the accessories are. They are fixed cable and don't come with any adaptors or extension cables but they do come with a hard case and a soft carry bag. They are definitely aimed at phone users. By comparison the M50x come with 3 cables (but no in-line mic). 1
Addicted to music Posted July 1, 2017 Author Posted July 1, 2017 @Chigurh you picked up one one a pair of these yeah? https://addictedtoaudio.com.au/collections/headphones/products/sennheiser-momentum-2-0-on-ear-headphones
Chigurh Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 @Addicted to music No, I got the around-ear version. They seem to get better reviews. https://addictedtoaudio.com.au/collections/headphones/products/sennheiser-momentum-2-0-around-ear-headphones?variant=16063981443 $287 at Harvey Norman. I think the sale ends tomorrow.

I think the sale ends tomorrow. http://www.harveynorman.com.au/sennheiser-momentum-2-0-over-ear-headphones-ios-black.html Not many left, so had to drive all the way Fountain Gate shopping centre to have a look. What really pissed me off was that typical Crapy Boring Sevice(HN) didn't have any on trial or demo. The sales guy took 20mins to find the only one in the box sealed. No chance asking because he wasn't going to drag it out as a demo. So I walked to JB HiFi in the shopping complex next door. JB had both the Monentum on ear and over the ear on trial and also had the facility to plug direct into the iphone5 that I had with music files that I'm familiar with loaded. They also had the ATH-m50x and the ATH MSR7. The difference between the m50x and MSR7 is that the MSR7 was smoother, resolving and had an emphasis on the top end. i then walked over to where the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 over the ear and on the ear. There was a huge difference in SQ between those 2 alone. The over the ear was all about over emphasis in the mid range to the point it was blooted... The on ear had a punchier and extended SQ and I much preferred the on ear than the over the ear. Going back to the ATH m50x, I'd realised that I preferred the AT!!!! The Sennheiser Momentum on the ear had some nice colorations, but the ATH m50x told what was on that recording. There was certain microdetails that the Sennheisers just masked and you really need to listen for it " selectively tuning in" to hear it where the ATH m50x just saids " here it is " easy! The ATH m50x also had an extended punchy bottom end, more so than the ATH MSR7, however the MSR7 had a better resolving power between the instruments. Then I drove back closer to home and dropped into a JB HIFI store in Altona, Both ATH m50x and MSR7, believe me the difference between these 2 is just clarity where the MSR7 excels, both had the same bass weight. The funny thing is that I can't trust JB demo units. The ones out at Fountain Gate looks like they have been trashed, the Sennheisers were like they've been through hell and back and definately burn-in same with the both M50x and MSR7. Both M50x and MSR7 sound very different in both stores, I would say the ones at Altona JB are newer as the store is new and the stock hasn't been there as long as the ones at fountain Gate. The other thing that draws me to the AT than the Senn is that the fit over the ear, I dislike cups on the ear and the over ear monentum was just too small so they also sat on the ear! The AT was large enough to be called over the ear on both models and it just sat right that didn't interfer with any part of the ear. Also JB couldn't give me or matched the prices at Addicted to Audio.

I didn't buy any... i went home and listened to my BeyerT90 and thank goodness I didn't make a purchase. I found a Sennheiser inner ear bud that my son thrown out in the wash and was about to discard them. I picked them up in the laundry and plugged them and they still work, even though they have been through the wash! The are Senn CX300 or CX3.00. They sound alright considered they have been in the wash, so if the BOSS complains, Ill uses these, however I don't like buds in my ear!
