I'm wondering what suggests to you that they are "pretty good", Steve?

Regards,

Andy

Just what's in the LP Gear ad's for each cart, which I realise will be naturally biased, but there is some industry and anecdotal positives there.....and I'm also swayed by the fairly glowing reputation of the Vivid Line styli as an worthy upgrade to many a budget to mid priced vintage carts. Just saying they seem worthy of consideration and at the price, might be a surprise 'bang for your buck' product.:)

They look interesting, Steve. I notice the Shibata and micro-line stylii are the same price - not sure which would be the pick of those two. The sweet spot from a pricing point of view may well be the A3SV with vivid line stylus. Will keep an eye out for any listening impressions.

That what I was thinking too.;) Hopefully there's people out there that can enlighten us on this interesting line up.:)

Pretty sure it's an Excel made cart, with a few minor differences to the Sumiko Pearl.... Better price though.

I have a nicely run in A3SE that sounds great.  I have used an AT95, AT95 with Hyperelliptical stylus and an Nagaoka MP-110.  For me, this cart is way better than these other carts.  It provides low distortion, low sibilance, a wide sound stage, a balanced presentation tending to a bit warm, every instrument is clear and in its place and natural sounding with strong midrange especially on vocals.  It does take around 30 hours to break in though.  I'm keen to try one of the more expensive versions if this entry level is anything to go by.

I wonder how it compares to the cheaper  VM95 range from AT that has a similar range of stylus options.   I do remember reading about the vessel carts when they first came out.  Some people were a little doubting...  but then that always happens.

@nkoulban compares one favourably to an AT95 with hyperellipical stylus.  I can add the VM95ML is also way better than an AT95 with Vividline stylus
