It's also one of the most versatile players including a full-featured DAC capable of decoding HR (PCM and DSD) music files. It has the latest firmware installed. The MPS-5 uses a modified TEAC Esoteric SACD/CD transport that can read CDs/CDRs and SACD. On the back it has analogue Balanced (XLR), Unbalanced (RCA) and BNC (50 Ohm) output connectors. Digital inputs are AES/EBU (XLR), S/PDIF Coax, S/PDIF TosLink and USB. The DAC is capable of receiving signals with resolutions/sample rates up to 24-bit/192kHz. SACD players built like this are very rare on the used market in 2017, because Esoteric has decided to stop selling their transport to third parties. Playback Designs themselves have stopped production of this unit due to unavailability of the transport. It comes complete with remote, manual and original double shipping box. I'm the first owner and bought it new from the official Australian distributor. Before it was discontinued, the MPS-5 retailed for US$17,000. 2
