Item: DAC with multiple Inputs and XLR output
Price Range:   $100 to $500
Item Condition: Used
Extra Info:   Newer or older simple DAC, no tubes, good range of input ports.

I'd pay best money for a DAC with a couple of Optical and an XLR input port (aka AES-EBU).

Must have Balanced (XLR) analogue outs.

Remote control or Volume adjustment not necessary, but manufacturer web site is.

I'm located in Sydney.

I'd want a bit more than $500, but I have silver Audiolab 8200CD, which is also a DAC with XLR out, 2x optical and 2x coax in. Also has 7 inbuilt filters to tailor output to your taste.

Thanks Blybo, the Audiolab's a good unit but this will not be my pricipal Dac so I'd rather be under $500 than over.

You want one of these should tick most of your boxes I reckon.

I'm not in Sydney but I have a Teac UD-501 silver. Was looking at $500 for it.

Has dual coax, dual optical, USB and XLR outs. No volume controls on the preout but there is a headphone amp with a volume control.

No box though. I left them behind in Singapore where I bought it. I might have the manual somewhere but I often use the soft copy anyway. Was hoping for a local sale. I got a UD503 recently so this one has been surplus. I do miss having dual full Toslink inputs tho. The 503 has a mini Toslink as a second optical input and it was awkward running a cable to it.

Slightly over budget I know but in case you're interested

Batmaqn:  Nice price range in used form; although the single toslink input is not ideal.

 .

Adam:  Yes, with my emphasis on connectivity and price, I'm aiming for something more pedestrian than the price and repute of "Wyred4Sound ".

 .

Michael:  Thanks but I need more inputs.

 .

DoggieHowser:  Nice range of inputs; though if it had the AesEbu port I 'd be prepared to push to my price limit.  It's on my shortlist but I'll keep looking.

Probably two of the few in your budget the Dacmagic plus and Emotiva XDA 1

Len Wallis has a bryston bda-1 for $745 in their second hand section, plenty of inputs and outputs. Yes it's over your budget but ticks all the boxes and you will not be upgrading anytime soon. Give a call and speak to Tim he will help you out with the price

I've sent you a PM regarding the Parasound Zdac which has balanced outputs though also only has one optical input.

I may have CAmbridge Audio Dacmagic2 available.

it was to become a Modding project but like all my best intentions they end up being forgotten.

Thanks, replied via PM.

Some good equipment being mentioned here, many a bit above my target grade (the Bryston even has AesEbu input), and I have to resist an impulse buy here, because the project I need the DAC for has pretty tight parameters, and sound quality is not the main driver (heresy, isn't it).
