Hi All. I recently purchased a Michell Tecnoweight to replace the standard Rega counterweight; however after reading many people's difficulties installing this, I am questioning the safety of me doing this. Is anyone a Rega expert who'd be happy to come around and set up my deck in exchange for some nice whiskey, beer, wine etc? :)

The only issue is to unscrew the existing stub from the arm, you might need to put a cloth around and use a plier to untight the stub.
Rega has a tungsten CW which I think it is a better upgrade IMO

Very easy to do - only issue is what dwb mentioned.
I fitted one to a RB300 and it made a significant improvement.

I think they are SS, you can buy the tungsten one for around USD120...

Ahh, so better then the Tungsten.

No, I was right. The original RB300's CW was Tungsten. They supplied a Stainless steel one later. I thought they had always been Tungsten, but was obviously mistaken.

I would say so - I went from a Tunsten one.
Very different counterweight underslung effectively changing the balance and tightened up the sound and bass considerably from memory.

I did the opposite...however I didn't try the one from Michell, I tried the one from Groovetracer and didn't like it.

Do they use decent cartridge clips in p9 or rp10? That's my major gripe with regas

I own two Rega TT but we have to face the truth. It is one of the reasons that there is such a thriving market for third party mods for them.

There is nothing state of the art about chipboard and we all know it but they sound a lot better than the construction would indicate.

My P3-24 colour has a plinth of laminated construction, courtesy of a Scottish kitchen cupboard manufacturer. Rega has done away with this construction method now in favour of chipboard with braces, to save cost whilst mantaning the same level of stiffness and low weight.
