i had one of these some years ago...they retailed at about $5k locally. had something like 7 power supplies and discrete dac stages, even if dont use internal amps made for a great processor...japanese made, kind of thing hard to come by...they dont make em like they used to ...

op wants to confirm comes with all accessories (mic etc) and has all updates.

Yeah thanks al it is a very good av it won't be used at least for a year from now as I'm living with my mum at the moment till the house starts so it just sitting in the spare room not used but I did fire it up the other day for a couple of hours and sounds perfect

Yes it does come with the mic and two remotes since I had it I never done any updates I don't know if that matters

i still use a 4308. this has heaps of power compared to newer denons. it also runs 2 sets of surround sides which is handy in my ht room due to 2 rows of seating and room config.

How would this av go if connected to a more recent player  say oppo 203 via analog out for sound and hdmi for Picture. Which Dack is more superior

when I had a denon 3808 with an Oppo 83/93/103D, I used hdmi to the denon.

The 3808 and 4308 have good dacs.

This is also important if you choose to use audyssey.

I expect the oppo and denon dacs won't produce that audible a difference. However, I haven't tested that for a long time, so others may have more relevant info.

The 3808 and 4308 are excellent all-round performance receivers.

The amazing thing with the 3808/4308 is the flexability of connection eg using video via hdmi and audio via analogue-in, if you so choose.

its not so much the dacs, the denon hs a brilliant discrete dac stage - I agree with benje. the 203 isn't that great over analog vs say 205 even if you ask oppo they'll tell you to connect up over hdmi. the 205 is a great unit but a heck of an investment, probably better to just put money of that instead into avr in the first place. aiso there are a LOT of compromises over hooking up via multi channel analog. it was meant for the early days of hdmi where we had legacy non hdmi gear.  i wouldn't wish switching from hdmi to multichannel analogs on any one these days.

instead with a 4308 such as this you would simply run dual outs form say 203... hdmi audio to denon 4308 and will get full hd audio etc. and run hdmi video direct to display. its really why they have fitted dual outs on these players.

elvis if have plans to keep this and use... i would :) this is too good to let go at the price :D

if selling ... its a great pick up for someone, this avr was basically one step down from the flagship denon avr which in itself was something like $12k !  so for most people this is about as good as gets. and gee for the money !!!
