Hi Folks,

Was wondering if anyone has successfully paired Harbeth Speakers with Rega Amps?

To be more specific will Rega Elicit R with Harbeth 30.1 be a good combo for a small room? Listening levels will be low to medium range.

Would love to hear from people who have experienced this combo or something better in a similar price range.

Thanks

Hi there

Dont have the Harbeths you do but the 40.1's  I did alot of research before buying and the consensus across the board was Harbeths in general are a very friendly speaker to drive. Theres lots of info on the Harbeth forum page and Alan Shaw is very active so Im sure someone there will be able to help if you are still unsure.

All the best,Andrew

I note that reviews of the Elicit-R describe it as lean-sounding.  The 30.1s are also the leanest of the Harbeth range, so I would want to hear the two together before making a decision, other wise you will run the risk of losing the rich tonality that Harbeth speakers are known for.

That would be him.

He may design speakers that many people like, but he doesn't know schit about amplifiers. if he did, he wouldn't make such ill informed statements.

With Shaw, it's a case of my way or the highway

I shall take the highway

I have a tough time believing that. Wouldn't he have studied them way more seriously than most audiophiles?

I have no idea what he studied but he is 100% wrong in any case.

Hmm think they do it's a bit of a general statement to make, Harbeth's aren't hard to drive that's true but it will depend on what sort of sound you're after.

Agreed unless you're after that "thin" sound be mindful of this would also depend on what sort of music you want to play this might work well if you're into Jazz and Classical but if you like a wide spectrum of music then more thought is needed on the combo.

Thanks everyone for their feedback. Will keep this in mind as will try few other options. However I did listen to Rega Elicit R  with PMC twenty5 and thought it sounded wonderful , natural, and 'warmer' than Plinius 880.  I cant demo Harbeths yet but will wait for July Syd Audio Show which is just around the corner.

Just for what its worth I think comments re Alan Shaws knowledge are mis informed at best. Clearly he knows what hes talking about when in relation to his OWN PRODUCTS.  What I said in my post didnt relate to the quality of the amp as Im sure we ALL agree that quality of amplifers definately would make a difference. What I was meaning in my posting was that they didnt need mass amounts of grunt. I did ask this when I was looking to purchase my 40.1's from the agent.  It may be worth a call to you agent in Au to get their take on the matter. At the end of the day there is no wrong here just someones opinion. There will be loads of info on the Harbeth forum page and joining is very easy if that helps you further.

All the best.
