I'd like to ask the opinions of anyone knowledgeable in these two amps. I have the option of getting either at a great price.

The basic circuitry and MOSFETS are the same. The 3000 is the TOTL and gives 10 more watts per channel. It's has the copper chassis. It also has the discreet Clearaudio phono stage. Also the 3000 has 5 year warranty where the 1100 has 2.5.

Would this be enough to make you spend $2700 more to get that over the 1100?

Doesn't it come down to how each sounds with your speakers? Is one $2,700 better sounding to YOU? That's really the question. As for built in phono stages, they're good to limit the box count! But if you're going to do serious vinyl, lots of external options are available that will better it. $2,700 is a whole lot of phono stage!

Yeah I get that. The actual internals are a lot better quality. Sound is fairly similar with the consensus being that the 3000 handles lower end slightly better. This isn't a question of sound in that regard. Lessening the box count is the aim here. Also warranty is a big factor. I've sold off most of my gear lately to simplify things.

Also the 3000 will be a statement piece into the future with possible better resale. I have external stages I will keep though.

Well in that case it seems the 3000 is a good fit for you. Can you hear it with your speakers? I've not heard the amps, but a good friend is currently trying to make the same decision.
Good luck!

Will be running a pair of JBL S4600. I'll go listen to them both again. The 3000 is a $9000 amp and the 1100 is a $2600 amp. A lot of that is going to be buying the bragging rights I fear

If it's an amp I'm going to look at for years I don't really want to wonder what if lol.

If the 3000 was RRP then I'd never consider it but I've been offered a price that's hard to ignore.

Haha maybe it is like that. I was mostly hoping someone may have had the dilemma and could point out why they chose the one they did.

Hey Jakey, i'd go the 3000 all the way and in fact for the past few months I have been entertaining the thought of doing just that in my system as well.

Thanks mate. I think the JBLs need something special. And they look clean and the amp will look neat. Not so many cables everywhere and also I don't have repair issues should anything go wrong. The people offering or capable to repair quality gear lessens every year also. And as @evil c would say I have cloth ears so no point going too deep down the audiophile path lol.

Im going to come face to face with them again today so I'll weigh things up then I suppose

The 3000 has XLR  - apart from that you would be hard pressed to hear the difference in SQ. If you're not using XLR then get the 1100 and save the cash. A friend lugged his 3000 over to my place and we compared the two amps using RCA interconnects - we couldn't tell the difference.

That was actually self diagnosis, I tried to reassure you there was still hope for you! [emoji10]
And not to throw the baby out with the bathwater , already have a few more than capable amps to test new speakers out with - changing whole lot and makes it harder to discern improvements. [emoji6]
Looks like above comment could save you money too !

Yes looks very well that way Evil. Still, means a showdown. There may be a further fire sale yet! I think I'm sold on the 1100. And I'm still determined to lower the box count.... there may well be a Melody and an ME sale in the future. Watch this space!

Good advice from everyone. I tossed the bragging rites and bought the 1100 :thumb:

Any reason you didn't consider the 2100?

A few reasons. One being my contact only had the two choices. The other factors if he had a 2100 available would be that I don't need XLR or a discreet headphone stage.

The 2100 has slightly more shielding than the 1100 which gives it a lower noise floor. The 3000 has the same specs and that's why I didn't choose it. Also the JBL are very efficient.

Thirdly as @Happy said if going higher than the 1100 o wouldn't have chosen anything less than the 3000. And in the end it's all just bragging rites really.

I was looking at the 2100 just because it had balanced inputs. Please post your thoughts on the 1100, will be interested to read them!

Plus I saved myself $2700. Took the Mrs to the Hot Springs and out for dinner and won $500 on the pokies. The good lord does smile on a good bloke sometimes :party;)
