betty boop Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 anyone watch Manchester by the Sea ? we watched it on blu-ray I was amazed to read later that Casey Affleck won a total of 40+ awards for his acting in this movie ! quite amazing. And he does an amazing job indeed in this lead role. The other actors as well do a beautiful job in the very natural role play and acting in this movie. So very much as black comedy I would suggest. but that could be just us watching In picture it is stunningly rendered, beautifully photographed and comes up an absolute treat for blu-ray. Lovely natural skin tones and rich scenery really well done inside and out. In audio, while this isn't a blockbuster or something with huge use of sound track or audio effects. there is quite a bit of music in this film, very well chosen for many of the scenes. For example there are times where the music is playing with people talking i.e. you can see their lips moving and the lead act is just nodding and obviously quite oblivious to goings on. Brilliantly done and really quite skilful in use of music and screenplay to depict. Overall a very much enjoyed movie for us. So much to think about. To identify with, some complex characters, and so well made as a movie. Perhaps not something everyone will identify with or everyones cup of tea but an excellent movie nonetheless less. I would give the Movie a 5, Picture quality 5 and Audio quality 4.5
Kaynin Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 Yeah it's a good movie Al, I watched it a while ago. I think what helped me was that I didn't have any expectations at all in regards to the acting/storyline. In the end I'm not surprised at the awards it won, but I can see how some would ask how it did so well. Casey's career has taken longer to accelerate than his brother, but he's starting to get going now. 1

Kaynin Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 Yep, he was also in Interstellar, so he's starting to put a portfolio together of some big name movies, and then has carried Manchester so well.
Blk plastic Posted August 26, 2017 Posted August 26, 2017 (edited) He's great in Tower Heist as well. I really enjoyed Manchester By The Sea,and thought it deserving of it's awards. Edited August 26, 2017 by Blk plastic
