gonefishing999 Posted June 9, 2017 Posted June 9, 2017 (edited) I need help. I want to use oppo 105 or 203 as a streamer. The main broad on oppo's has I2s output flat ribbon cable going the stereo board to the dac,the ess dac has I2s input. So can this be tapped into to and stream I2s direct out to another I2s dac Ps audio, Holo? I know I2s has slave and master but don't much more than this ,so is it possible. WhakPak Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 I2S interface should be compatible between components made by different manufacturers. However, to get DSD over I2S I suspect both the source and sink components must be from the same manufacturer, and built with the appropriate software encryption keys. Without the encryption key the source component should only send PCM.

There is no standard for I2S connection .... so you will need to work out how to connect it. Even once you know how where to connect things..... I2S in this way is not just "plug and play". To get acceptable performance you will need to be able to competently design high speed digital circuits. For anyone else, they have a low chance of it working, and a lower chance of acceptable performance. I would not have thought so. As you are lifting the I2S signal at the "input to the DAC chip" - then any job the software needed to do, is already done. ... but there will be potential issues with DSD. The ES9018 DA converter doesn't understand DoP - and so the Oppo will be sending DSD to it as straight DSD. If you "switcheroo" a different DA in it's place (which is what grabbing the I2S signal out of the Oppo does), you'll need to program the new DA as needed so it understands what it's receiving (eg. if it can't automagically detect a change to DSD).
davewantsmoore Posted August 3, 2018 Posted August 3, 2018 Right. I have just seen THIS thread: Can you clarify your question? I think the short answer is Yes, but you will need someone like Jae Hong Lee from Oppomod again.
gonefishing999 Posted August 3, 2018 Author Posted August 3, 2018 @davewantsmoore David I have started new post and have now got Hdmi I2s out of Oppo.
