MooneeBeach Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 (edited) Hi I recently purchased a Revox B750 to match my reel to reel and I have been surprised at just how good it sounds. A quick peek inside reveals a build date of 1979, so I'm thinking the capacitors, etc are overdue to be replaced. I've found a couple of kits on eBay, but I'm unsure of which would offer the best results. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/282285887159?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/282279955532?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Some parts are missing or look different in the other kit, for example: What are these, and why are they not in the other kit (or maybe a different style)? As you can tell, I haven't got a clue when it comes to electronics, so will need someone to do the work for me. Any recommendations would be gratefully received. Thanks, Sean Edited June 3, 2017 by seaninbrisbane
mwhouston Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 They do look out of place but at a guess I'd say for a regulated PS. See if you can see similar components in the recorder. May be hidden so look around.
MooneeBeach Posted June 3, 2017 Author Posted June 3, 2017 Thanks - I could see them in my amp, just though the replacement part might look totally different.
Alistair W Posted June 3, 2017 Posted June 3, 2017 Hey Sean, those are power transistors, as Mark suggested likely to be for the power supply. The kits you linked to are providing replacements for the various electrolytic capacitors. These typically dry out over time and are a good idea to renew. I'd be curious about the quality of the replacement parts in the kits - for that money are they providing good quality long life parts? If you have access to a service manual or schematics then you could order directly from an electronics distributor like Element 14 and know for sure what you're getting. -Al 1

I never left vinyl records but had time off in between plinth / TT upgrades that sometimes spanned a year or two This Revox TT will be, my just in case unit until the wife gets wise to extra components 1
MooneeBeach Posted June 3, 2017 Author Posted June 3, 2017 I sold my record collection a couple of years ago, but kept a few back....just in case.
MooneeBeach Posted June 3, 2017 Author Posted June 3, 2017 Just thinking - is it even possible that everything inside is original after 37 years? Maybe it was serviced during that time - must have been! The amp is sounding really good.
MooneeBeach Posted February 14, 2018 Author Posted February 14, 2018 After a few months' usage the amp has now developed some low level crackling sounds. Any suggestions for repair in Brisbane?
