Hi.

Just joined up a few weeks ago and this in my first post on the forum.

I have always been intrigued (to say the least) by valve amps and now for the first time I am going to be auditioning a valve amp in the comfort of my home and on a system that I am familiar with.

The valve amp is the Synthesis A100Titan Integrate amp.

The system I have is:

  • Clearaudio Champion LE with a Primare R32 Phono amp

  • Primare CD31 / Pre 30

  • Primare 2 x A30.2 power amps (bi-amped)

  • Primare NP30 network player

  • B&W 703’s

I am planning on connecting up the TT, CD & NP to see the difference from all three sources using the Valve amp.

I would appreciate any comments/advice on do’s and do not using a valve amp, what I should expect / look out for in sound quality and also any comments on the Synthesis A100Titan.

Cheers and thanks in advance for your time

What do you think the Primare is missing?

just wondering what you are looking for or dissatisfied with in your current setup ?

Also, welcome to SNA :)

Definitely feel satisfied with the Primare. The sould I experience is "sharp" and not overly bright.

But I have never given Valve Amps a go and not seriously auditioned them. I keep wonder how the sound quality would change.

I have heard/read a lot of +ve's about valve amps and have always been tempted to introduce it to my 2 Ch listening.

Sounds like you are able to audition in your own system. That's the right way to

do it.

Let us know how you go !

Try a good quality valve preamp feeding your amps, you may be pleasantly surprised

Cheers.

So when will you be selling your Primare?

No plans to get rid of the primare gear at the moment. Will only look at this when I upgrade my speakers.

It depends on what you are looking for. Nevertheless not all valve amps sound the same. Just go with the mainstream first ie audio research, cj, cary etc.

Happy listening!

They're frankly not mainstream. Nor do their owners want them to be mainstream! :D

Well I've had a good listen to Synthesis A100T at home.

Just want to thank the guys at Tivoli HiFi for allowing me time with the amp.

I've go to say this 100w valve amp was amazing. Me and my mate listed to a number of different genre's and in all cases it felt like the A100T had a bigger soundstage and tighter control than my Primare Pre30 and 2 x A30.2 bi-amped. It also felt like the A100T was driving the B&W speakers effortlessly.

I have a new found respect for valve amps as well as integrated amps.
