alcarp Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Has anyone tried this? It seems to tick all the boxes - SSD, battery powered, fanless etc. with Windows 10 as OS.
PleasantSounds Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 (edited) I'm using the Surface Pro 3 for that purpose. The interface could be more responsive, but no issues with the sound (playing up to 24/96, haven't tried anything requiring higher bit rates). Edited May 27, 2017 by PleasantSounds typo
Bunno77 Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 I've used a pro 3 and it's worked great up to dsd128. No audible difference between it and my main pc (other than fan noise) and I couldn't pick any difference between it being plugged in or running on the batterySent from my JAZZ using Tapatalk
alcarp Posted May 27, 2017 Author Posted May 27, 2017 What players do you guys use. Have you tried something like JRiver and Audiophile Optimiser?
CraigC Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 I use j river on the first gen surface running windows 10
PleasantSounds Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 I'm using foobar2000 with android remote, output is ASIO to Metrum Menuet. Haven't tried the AudiophileOptimiser, but played with the fidelizer a bit. As I didn't notice any audible difference, I'm not using it any more. JRiver should be fine too. To me it's just a matter of preference.
Bunno77 Posted May 27, 2017 Posted May 27, 2017 Yep mostly direct streaming from tidal etc or foobar. I noticed my modified sonos connect sounds a little better as did a few other streamers but it's a good cheap alternative. Roon works good tooSent from my JAZZ using Tapatalk
firedog Posted May 28, 2017 Posted May 28, 2017 Some of the head honchos at Roon use it as their Roon machine.
