Fascinating orchestral project with the Royal Philharmonic. Each colour features a contribution by a contemporary composer. Originally released by RCA in 1977.

 

 

LALO SCHIFRIN: BLACK WIDOW (Epic/Legacy, Austria, 2001) $10

 

Classic disco album with top jazz personnel. Originally released by Creed Taylor in 1976.

 

 

LALO SCHIFRIN: MARQUIS DE SADE (Verve, U.S., 1997) $15

 

Another classic jazz album wherein the composer revisits the music of the 18th Century in contemporary guise. Recorded by Rudy van Gelder in 1966. Hard to find on CD.

 

 

LALO SCHIFRIN: THERE'S A WHOLE LALO SCHIFRIN GOIN' ON (Emarcy, Germany, 2013) $10

 

Intended as a parody of pop and rock music by the composer, it may be eccentric but quite fascinating. Originally released by Dot in 1968, it has now come of age!

IT'S A MAD, MAD, MAD, MAD WORLD (Ernest Gold) (Kritzerland, U.S., 2011) $10

 

Adroit lesson on how to score a comedy from Oscar-winner Gold. Remastering of the program specially recorded by United Artists Records in the early '60's. With several bonus tracks.

Hard to find Japanese re-issue of the premiere release of the original movie tracks with over 10 minutes of previously unreleased music. (Not to be confused with the best selling program specially recorded by MCA in the '70's and

Hard to find edition at an affordable price. Not only does this contain the program specially recorded by the composer for United Artists Records in the early '70's but also a 27 minute suite of the original movie tracks arranged by Oliver
Nelson. What a trip!
