Looks like AudioQuest have finally delivered the MQA update for the Dragonfly Black and Red.

I may just drop my prejudice against the company for a little while and try one out.

Is anyone here with one of these able to report?

Looking at some Munich previews, it looks like Moon and Krell are also jumping on the MQA bandwagon.

I updated my Red yesterday and have played a few MQA test songs found on the 2L website. No issues so far, but I haven't yet had the time to listen properly.

Got the dragonfly black, after a few MQA tracks the novelty is wearing off, they really are just louder and some are unbearably loud, tidal volume is on near zero and dragonfly volume is on 4% and it's loud!

I have the same problem with Tidal in Exclusive mode on my home desktop, plus it continually defaults to 0 so I have to turn it up very carefully. It doesn't do that if it's not in exclusive mode. That's with internal sound, as well.

Can do....!

Just BEWARE turn your sound right DOWN, the MQA's are very, very loud.

Looks like it still comes down to a original recording issue, the MQA hard rock tracks are unbearable loud but the ol' classic like the Eagles are much better, can turn it up louder with out hurting.

Something is going in then, it really is making me not like tidal at all.

A bit more playing around showed that on my PC, it's exclusive mode apps that are running up the volume, not just Tidal (which needs exclusive mode anyway).

I have a Dragonfly Red in the special DAC USB port on the back of my PC now, will report in more detail later. It sounds OK and so far I've found it narrows the stereo with some of my ripped flacs, and shows up some of the really bad tracks in Tidal HiFi. I'm saving MQA comparisons at the moment as I expect them to be more subtle than just the Dragonfly change.

I also changed it to "force volume" so I just control volume with the dragonfly amp.

Got it rockin' now, make sure to tick the Pass Through MQA box and uncheck Exclusive.

Yeh we are all guilty of the odd incorrect setting or connection but I can't help but think of a mad woman's shite when I picture you listening to music! You love it, you hate it, you love it, nah hang on you hate it, or do you love it?

It's not the the actual music, I think it's more the hype around products or things like MQA . Sometimes they don't live up to expectations. I will be though installing the version 5 firmware for my Aries mini to see how that MQA goes before the Tidal subscription runs out today, hold on tight.
