Bugs Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 The amp is a GD 10 SE, and I trying to connect my Graham Slee Phono Pre amp to it. The GD is a Amp/Dac with three inputs, all digital each one being a single socket, different types obviously. The Phono Pre has left and right outputs. I tried the digital coaxial out put from my Cd Player to the GD and it works, the headphones sound great, but no luck with the phono stage. Are the output from the phono incompatible, I can not get any sound at all through the headphones. Tried different cables,stereo/ mono, no go. Do I have to get the GD fitted with new inputs? Help!,....Cheers,...Bugs
ophool Posted May 16, 2017 Posted May 16, 2017 (edited) Phone pre is analogue out only - from what you say the Audio GD is digital in only - resulting in no communication (as you have discovered). You need a HPA with an analogue in, or an ADC (analogue to digital converter) to connect the phono pre to the AGD. Edited May 16, 2017 by ophool
Bugs Posted May 17, 2017 Author Posted May 17, 2017 Ok, thanks for setting me straight on the digital/analogue situation. I see ADC are quiet cheap, less than $50, will they retain the quality of the Phono Amp, or should I bite the bullet and replace the GD . Headphones are HD 800's Thanks,...Bugs
ophool Posted May 17, 2017 Posted May 17, 2017 By repute the AGD is none too shabby a performer and your cans deserve a decent HPA. My feeling is that a cheap ADC will not do you any favours in maintaining the quality from your phono preamp, my preference would be another HPA with analogue in and retain the AGD for DAC duties. Maybe contact @cheekyboy and arrange a loan of a GSP HPA to try out - the Solo ULDE is rather nice.
