Tassie Devil Posted May 14, 2017 Posted May 14, 2017 I have purchased a nice set of Beethoven quartets on a BD disc and wish to rip it into Roon but am confused by the number of programs on offer to do this so would appreciate some guidance on which is the most straightforward one to use. I attempted to use DVD Audio Extractor and paid for it but it would not load. It appears they could not, or were unwilling to help, so sent me a refund. I'm ths back to square one trying to work out what to buy. Suggestions greatly appreciated but please note my patience & deep knowledge with PC programs is limited so I need something relatively straightforward. TIA John
Progfoxx Posted May 15, 2017 Posted May 15, 2017 Was going to suggest DVD Audio Extractor, myself. Did it give you any error when reading Blu-Ray media? Did it show the disc contents in Windows File Explorer? There is a free alternative to it -- known as DVD Audio Explorer. I was reading somewhere that it might not tag the media? Found a walk through guide: http://www.htguide.com/forum/showthread.php?33033-Guide-Ripping-DVD-Audio-Discs-(DVD-A)-to-FLAC-in-Windows
Dr K Posted May 24, 2017 Posted May 24, 2017 Hi John, You might find this helpful (works for me): https://www.computeraudiophile.com/index.php?app=cms&module=pages&controller=page&path=ca/ca-academy/Ripping-Blu-ray-The-Easy-Way Cheers, Bernie
ophool Posted June 1, 2017 Posted June 1, 2017 I might be labouring the bleeding obvious here, but given the admitted lack of techspertise - it is necessary to have a Bluray capable drive in the PC. If you do have one then my apologies.

For BD Music, you need to download MakeMKV, copy free key from here and enter key within MakeMKV program under Help/Register. Then File/Backup BD disc to a disk drive/NAS. Note: need to use Backup; DVD Audio Extractor cannot read MKV files. You can then use DVD Audio Extractor to get your flac. Have used it this combination get music from BD Audio discs as well as BD concerts...

k3here Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 I found the trial version of MakeMV could not open certain Bluray discs or at least could not decrypt them. Does a fully licensed version of MakeMV do better? I tried DVDFab and it worked fine, then used dvd audio extracter to convert music to flac.

Did you use latest version? They have updates which try to keep up to date with latest encryption. Used DVDFab in past, sometimes better, sometimes not. Depends on disk. End of day, can use either prior to DVD Audio Extractor.
k3here Posted August 15, 2017 Posted August 15, 2017 Yes latest version. I'll keep both programs then if neither a stand out.
HomerJ Posted September 29, 2017 Posted September 29, 2017 I prefer MakeMKV to Create an MKV file with full hires Audi stream then Music Media Helper (or Audiomuxer) to convert to FLAC.
