catman Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 (edited) G'day all, after hearing about the ABC Mark Colvin's passing yesterday even today I feel sad at his passing. The tribute on the ABC PM program last night was beautiful, especially at the end of the program, and I'll admit it....I cried my eyes out. As a person who has done radio presenting work in the past and regular voice over work now, there have been several people whose own presenting work and style has influenced me significantly. Mark Colvin was one of them. RIP Mark Colvin. Regards, Felix. Edited May 12, 2017 by catman Spelling. 5
Volunteer sir sanders zingmore Posted May 12, 2017 Volunteer Posted May 12, 2017 Well said @catman, I listened to the tribute too. A remarkable man, he will be missed.
Candyflip Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 Yeah, loved his work. He was part of my daily routine and I'll miss that calm, warm voice each night. 1
rantan Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 A really nice bloke, a great journalist and a great mind with empathy and insight A very sad loss R.I.P. Mark
Tony M Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 I was amazed and reassured to hear him back on PM after the kidney transplant - somehow I thought then he would be around forever. Sadly, that proved not to be the case. I considered him the epitome of what a journalist should be and I despair of the plummeting standards of the craft worldwide. The sometimes gruff pedant with empathy, intelligence and unfailing integrity. He inspired trust, which is an essential pre-requisite for great journalism but it's an increasingly rare commodity and that is a tragedy. That voice was just so distinctive and reassuring. 5
Luc Posted May 12, 2017 Posted May 12, 2017 I echo all of the above. Did anyone notice like me the early B+W photo of a young Colvin with equally young Andrew Olle and Paul Murphy and several other recognisable faces(that I couldn't name with the pic only being up briefly) from the very early 80's ABC stable? Where are their replacements?
