Well, there was a thread here recently about “Australia Post” woes … so, to even things up, let me recount my problems yesterday with f’ing Amazon … and their chosen courier service, “Fastway”.

My front door opens directly onto the street – there’s a thin (600mm wide) sidewalk between the front door and the roadway (which is a small, inner-city road).  To anyone with even a quarter of a brain, that makes it unsuitable for leaving a parcel at the front door … yet they did!

I have no idea whether the courier arrived at 9am … or 5pm – but, luckily, my wife was home earlier than normal from work yesterday and so picked up the parcel, on the front door step, while it was still light.

This makes me hate Amazon with even more of a passion – not only do they not offer any way of getting in touch with them, to ask questions about a product … or offer suggestions as to how they can make their shopping experience better (Oh – I forgot!!  This is Amazon (shortly to enter the Australian market)!  Of course they are perfect!  :P ) but they use a Neanderthal-staffed courier service!

So you have been warned – if you see something on Amazon … I suggest you see if FleaBay offers it too, before ordering from Amazon.

Regards,

Andy

Same thing happened to me several years ago with a $600 book delivery.

They had just dumped the parcel on top of the letter boxes in a communal letter box room of 120 letterboxes, with no notification put in my letter box announcing it's arrival, plus this room used to be able to be accessed by anybody walking past the building.....I've never ordered anything from them since.

Fastway also lost a PC case that I ordered from PC Case gear, I was sent a replacement with the shipping instructions to get a signature on delivery....nope, just ran into my work place, dumped the box at the entrance and got back in the truck....absolutely hopeless.

AVOID if at all possible....if I see any place I am looking at ordering anything form uses Fastway couriers, I don't shop with them.

Not sure you're angst should be directed at Amazon Andy.

It's like me blaming woolies if I found a cockroach in my weeties. :)

Never had a problem with Amazon or Australia Post, being able to track the items with Amazon and receiving texts on my mobile notifying me when parcels will arrive makes sure the items are collected at door or post box promptly.

Fastway are a joke, bad website, short business hours. I use Auspost parcel locker now so I don't have to deal with Fastway or hungover underpaid Auspost workers

actually prefer Auspost

Interesting that others have suffered from Fastway.  Trouble is ... how do you know which courier service a particular on-line seller will use?  As I said, Amazon doesn't seem to offer an email address or phone no. or chat session to ask questions.

What I blame Amazon for is not having any way of contacting them - or at least, hiding this so well that it takes a tech genius to find it.

Yes whenever I see a grey parcel in a letter box with Amazon stamped on it with black lettering I know its either a LP or CDs...easy mark!

@andyr Amazon have a great chat contact.

Help, Contact Us, enter the order details, then this brings up

If you order anything from them, then leave a comment NOT to leave at doorstep when you place an order. Or send to a business address.

Thanks, Cliff but when I hit 'Help' ... I don't see a "Contact Us" link?

The screen which I see is attached.

Thank you again Cliff - OK, I hit 'Need More Help" ... but I do not see the link "Contact Us".

The screen I see is attached - it's a list of order statuses.  The one I have 'Snipped' is not true - they did not "hand it directly to a resident" ... the courier left it on the front door step.  I want to tell Amazon of this - so that, hopefully, they will change couriers - but I am unable to contact them.

I've had  Signature required parcels signed for by the courier and then left at the front door.

Great thanks, Cliff.

Yes, if I put exactly the selections you have above ... then I get #3.  And when I hit the 'Email' tab, I get a form come up, for me to fill in.

Which now I will do!  :thumb:  Thanks very much for your help.

But why do I have to go down so many levels to get this form - and I wouldn't have found it if I hadn't lied about the reason I want to contact them (it wasn't an incorrect delivery address)!

Another example though, where the Amazon experience is inferior to the eBay service, is:

  • I ordered another item associated with the item that was left on the front door step the other day.  A 12v pump.  When it had been delivered (without any problem, that time), it wasn't clear which hole was the input and which hole was the output, for the pump.
  • eBay has the ability to send an eBay msg to the seller, to ask questions like this - Amazon doesn't offer this facility (or if it does, I haven't been able to find it).

And yet we are moving to an on-line shopping economy!  :D HTF is it going to work if the people who deliver the stuff do what you've described!  :hiccup

The couriers, all of them, are paid poorly. They have to make many, many deliveries to make a living and hence the poor service. It is a really bad scenario as in the seller Amazon, ebay shop, whoever pays as little as possible for delivery and put the couriers under pressure. The latter, under pressure to deliver, when not liable for theft or damage will do the absolute minimum.  Australia Post contractors are in the same boat.

I am surprised the system has not collapsed yet.

That's why most of the good ones leave and only the drongos are left!

It will all be drones soon so no worries!  You will be able to watch them flying overhead from your driverless car as you bop to tunes inside.

Yep, I'm amazed anything ever gets done when you combine this with layer upon layer of rules.

We seem to like importing the 'Reach Rich at any cost' practise from the US.

Seeing as we stand 'Shoulder to Shoulder' with each other on so many issues maybe I'll be able to take my 'medicine' while riding along in my driverless car, listening to tunes, without being worried about being busted for it.

Hmm, that 'contact us' certainly looks like it is buried away in a place where they don't want customers to find it!

So far, I haven't had any delivery problems from orders I've place with amazon, although most of my orders have been small parcels (CDs or DVD/Blu-Rays).

They do make it difficult to contact them though. A particular CD I was once looking for was shown on their site with the correct details (artist, cover art, etc.), but when I went to place the order it linked to a totally different item. I tried to find a way of sending them a message to alert them to the problem, but couldn't find any place on their site where I could do that. Seems pretty poor to me that they don't accept feedback from customers. In the end I resorted to posting a comment on the item listing so as to warn any other potential customers of the problem.
