look fantastic indeed ! and love the wood veneer. what else do we know about these ?

I have heard rumours last year re new Duntech or similar to Duntech speakers. I have even seen a small picture. Wondering if this is the same ?

Duntech is now owned by Orpheus and Kiat Low.

Kiat has stayed loyal to the brand and has only enhanced Dunlavys Designs using later Technology.

He has also designed some speakers himself over the last Decade keeping true to the Duntech philosophy.

If you have the Bucks, check them out.

I currently have some old Baron D300's and have the itch. Spent some time listening to speakers in the 5-10k bracket yesterday - Sonus Faber, Martin Logan, KEF and others - none of them provided a watershed moment and I've worked out I'm going to have to go big or go home to better these things.

If the new speakers are anything like the old designs these will be awesome!

Very nice looking new speakers. I don't want to rain on this parade at all, but personally I would prefer if in future Duntech consider adopting the business model like ME amplifiers (Peter Stein) have now where instead of releasing new speaker cabinets, the focus is more on upgrades to existing cabinets using the latest kit (crossovers and drivers). Most of the production cost for these speakers, especially the bigger ones, is in the cabinets, so instead of building new expensive cabinets, why not update the old ones? A classic Princess or Sovereign upgrade with Accuton drivers, electronic crossover, and tri-amplification (or basically a VR-11 https://www.vonschweikert.com/vr-11se-mkii for a fraction of the cost)... now we're talking.
Upgrades could be done by Duntech, or trained/approved service agents like ME does.
One company doing something similar is Kenrick  http://kenricksound.com/ in Japan, who upgrade and make better clones of the old JBL studio monitor speakers, and they seem to be quite successful with that business model.

There are several problems with this, one is acoustic, as the cabinet design is specific and (particularly for high end designs), designed around the actual drivers used.

Also, I wouldn't like to base a high end business on upgrading "old" speakers. Your market will be limited to those who already possess a set. In relation to the overall selling cost of a new set of speakers, the direct materials cost (including cabinets) might be say 1/4 of the list price, so in the overall equation, a manufacturer would be better off offering a brand new product and getting a better return on his investment.

Plus, who would want to mess with the original Duntechs anyway? :-)

BTW I like Peter Stein's idea of modular electronics, but I don't believe it can be easily applied to loudspeakers.

Cheers,

Great idea. In theory. In practice, there are a few problems:

1) Changing drivers in a speaker system is often a very complicated thing to do. Enclosure changes, crossover changes and other stuff can make the job very complicated. That said, VAF offer upgrades to some of their models (i66 & i93), so it is not impossible.

2) Offering upgrades does not make retailers happy. They prefer to sell new products, not upgrades. Upgrades only benefits the consumer.

Points taken. Yes, you design the new speaker with exactly the same cabinet as the old speaker so that your existing customers can upgrade to the latest drivers and crossovers, like VAF offer.
Retailers wouldn't be happy, but how many retailers have floor stock of Duntechs these days. Roughly none. And with forums and social media marketing, retailers are not as crucial as they once were... hence why so many have shut down or gone online.
Without the big cabinet cost you can afford to use the very best drivers and crossovers, having a better chance of significantly beating the sound of the old speakers. If you achieve the sound of a VR-11 or Arrakis or Grande Utopia speaker for a lot less, that will help sell itself.
It is a model that deeply respects your big loyal installed base, which has got to be good for everyone long-term.
It's just wishful thinking of course, but maybe Kiat is listening.

Perhaps Kiat is happy with how he runs his own business - Im certainly not about to start lecturing him - the one time I was lucky enough to spend quality time with him and tour his production facility it was all about the enjoyment of the music - glad the Duntech name hasn't been trashed like some classic brands that become box movers - or poor impersonations of their former self - look forward to hearing reviews of the new product and expect they will impress.

Also love my classic Marquis and I fail to understand our fascination with comparing different speaker brands - have always enjoyed VAf's offerings amongst many others - lucky for all of us we are spoilt for choice in terms of great Australian made speakers.
