I am selling 2 AKSA 55 POWER AMPS. They can be bought singularly or as a pair if so desired.

These were built by the legendary Richard McDonald for the equally legendary Hugh Dean and have amazing control coupled

with amplifier muscle that you won't think you will get given their respective size.

I have had no issues with these amps which I have owned only for the last 15 months or so.

Like the Quasimodo, I am selling they easily drive 4-ohm loads and once again the only reason I am selling is due to the fact that

I am sourcing amplifiers which have unconditional stability into 2 ohm loads in an active magnepan system.

As previously mentioned if it were not for this fact I would be unquestionably keeping these amps.

I will refer to each of the amps by their respective body colour. As the photos depict one is black with a white front plate whilst the other

other one is a gun metal grey.

They have typical wear for amps which according to Richard were built around 2000. The grey one has a rack mounting case and on each of the

4 corners there appears to a hardened glue type substance where we think someone had had another amp sitting on top of it.

There are photos to depict the respective condition of each amp inside and out.

Like the Quasi they punch well above their weight and these have compared very very favourably to amps well above the asking price here.

You get a heck of a lot of amp for the money that you pay.

Am happy to audition this amp with my Magnepan IIIAs.

According to RIchard they measure approx 55 wpc into 8 ohms and something like 80 wpc into 4 ohms.

If a week earlier I would buy.

Have just ordered Hugh's new SAKSA85.

I believe his amps are fairly close to tube sound using SS.

Absolutely @jakestar

Richard McDonald who built these amps and who has spent 40 years working on them described this and the Quasi in particular to

be a valve amp without the valves.

You won't be disappointed, jakestar.  The name 'SAKSA' stands for 'Super AKSA' - Hugh has applied what he's learned in the past 12 years with his Lifeforce & NAKSA amps to his original AKSA circuit ... so the SAKSA sounds better.  (But of course, it costs a lot more than the AKSA 55 which Ozzie is selling. ;) )

Thanks for the heads-up, Peter, but I have no need of them.

@SteveC

Richard Mcdonald would call them high gain power amps with a volume control.

But for all intents and purposes, you can say they are integrateds. They certainly do not require a pre.

@djb

I was just about to comment but the GREY is sold pending payment.

A lot of people will struggle to get their heads around the capabilities of these amps based on photos and badge etc.

You will struggle to get an amp at this price which performs as well as what the Aksa's do. That much I do know.

Is that a headphone jack on the white faced amp?

Correct mate.

I confess I never used it because I never had the need to especially as I wanted the wall of sound with the maggies.
