I can count literally hundreds of usernames here on StereoNET that I recognise from our car audio website some years ago. Many of us started our life-long audio hobby/interest/career thanks to car audio. Myself included to a degree. At least the car guys were playing with active crossovers, DSP and time alignment 10+ years before it started turning up in domestic audio. Arguably the guys that came through car audio understand more about crossovers and what's going on beyond what they can hear, than most of the HiFi guys! Then there's the fact that many of the "sound quality' focused aftermarket systems sound more accurate and tonally correct than many HiFi systems I've heard. Don't underestimate them @powerav. However if you feel that strongly about it, you could just take this sub-forum out of your content feed? 6
mechatron Posted November 13, 2016 Posted November 13, 2016 Thank you so much Marc for adding a car audio sub forum into Stereonet. The best news I've heard for a long time 1

You're right car audio is normally the first step for the budding audiophile. I spent thousands of $$$ and time upgrading the sound system an all my cars when I was a teen and into 20's. Soon got sick of it when I realised the work involved ripping it all out again when selling as you got nothing for it leaving it there. I use the car to listen and let new music sink in and then give it run on home system. I just find most new cars are pretty decent now anyway. 1
Guest Posted November 14, 2016 Posted November 14, 2016 Sorry mate, it seems I'm a tad defensive today - people taking pot shots everywhere I turn at moment

Sounds just like selling off hifi bits - you have been well briefed for your next steps. Personally I'm not interested in in-car sound. Got over that and hi power cars a while back. I still like the cars but don't bother.I think a car sub-forum is inevitable here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Guest RobbC Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 Yea mate believe so. As you say a real shame - there was so much great info, tips and discussion. Maybe the website will come back as an archive just to access that info. Not sure though if Marc has any plans to do that or not though.
Guest Posted November 19, 2016 Posted November 19, 2016 (edited) car audio sub forum,,,,,,,,,,,yea, cool Have a Troopy that needs surplus amps/18's installed as it already has a front stage and dual battery/100A Alternator, Theme for Troopy System, Old School, big and loud. Cheers @Marc for putting up the sub forum, some inspiration to get out of the lounge and into the car Photo, 1000W Rms of ////ALPINE V12 Old School A/B Competition Amps, with (25years old) fully active band pass 18dB per octave adjustable crossovers and PEQ for the sub amps, bridgeable balanced amps up to 12 channels a long way ahead of their time and still relevant tech as they are all analogue. These Guys run beautifully, ready to install. Let the Current Flow Edited November 19, 2016 by Guest

I believe CAA/MEA/R&B has been down as the server/site/software requires various upgrades/updates ... which all requires funds and resources that are probably not a high priority on Marc's agenda.
betty boop Posted November 20, 2016 Posted November 20, 2016 to be honest am probably over all the iterations its been through. I briefly and not in a great fashion did post and visited all those at some stage along the way. but if its not a goer its not a goer....
Josh Corley Posted December 5, 2016 Posted December 5, 2016 its a shame to see the site gone i always been checking back to make sure it hasnt come back up
Guest Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 I had hopes that one day I may be able to resurrect the old CAA website with a database backup I still have. Sadly, times have moved on and even cobbling together a server compatible with the old stores would be near impossible, let alone converting it all to something that would run on today's servers in a reasonable way. So I've brought back the old Car Audio subforum here: https://www.stereonet.com/forums/forum/455-car-audio-entertainment/ There seems to be a steady following of car audio still these days, so at least they are catered for here now.
Dolphy Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 I think the days of updating your car stereos are long gone or are harder to do nowadays. The head units are integral to the car's control and setup. I think the only options would be to upgrade speakers and amplification. 1

There's still a small section of the market with older vehicles - and particularly first vehicles, where upgrades are made. I still have many friends in the business providing those services and it's a small, but steady industry/market. At least they have somewhere to go for advice with a forum here, and we have somewhere to move those threads to. The Car Audio subsection is not just for aftermarket, but also the discussion of OEM offerings too, which are getting increasingly better all the time. Aside from hardware upgrades (speakers, amps etc), with DSP now involved in most systems, there's an emerging application for "tapping" into the DSP and tweaking / upgrading it further. Watch this space. 1

Still worth doing as replacing the basic speakers in most cars is a cost effective way of dramatically improving the sound quality. 2
Dolphy Posted May 27, 2024 Posted May 27, 2024 (edited) I just bought a Lexus ES300h 2023, the sound system could use a DSP tweak, I never thought of that. Overall, the OEM sound system would be 7/10. Edited May 27, 2024 by Dolphy 1

Just finished all the wiring harness last night. Already ran the reverse camera wiring too. I’m replacing the stock headunit in my Range Rover this week that will add CarPlay and still function with all the Range Rover functions in the head unit, The car also has 10 speaker plus sub Meridian sound, Something I enjoyed doing in the 90’s that’s still enjoyable today. A couple of years ago I put an Xtrons head unit into my X5 that still worked with all BMW functions. Next month I plan to take the touchscreen out of the Mrs Mk7 Golf and put in a Mk8 touchscreen with CarPlay and it still retains all the Golf original features and functions There’s still heaps of fun to be had in car audio. And a never ending array of replacement head units that upgrade, yet retain all the present functionality. Edited May 28, 2024 by Jakeyb77_Redux 3

Your car system must sound magic... 1
