Sure... all I meant by wishing it was a gear thread was that LP purchases could dominate, and they tend to turn up in Currently Spinning anyway. No biggie emoji9.png

Currently spinning as opposed to 'just bought'?.........currently spinning could have been bought forty years ago. Not the same......:thumb: This thread is about items you bought TODAY....not records you're playing today.;)

Great idea for a thread. Music is covered in the currently purchasing thread  so sticking to gear would be a good idea, I reckon.

But hey, its your thread :)

Currently spinning or currently purchasing? They are two different things.......Let's get this right! I don't really care if the same thing gets posted on two threads, but this thread, as plainly stated in the OP, is for ANYTHING analogue purchased TODAY. Not what you are playing today, not what you are planning to buy, just analogue related items that were bought TODAY. It couldn't be any plainer......:thumb:   PS (later): I'm a bit slow Citroen, just realised there is a 'currently spinning' thread AND a 'currently purchasing' thread. I didn't realise a 'purchasing' thread existed. Had I, I wouldn't have started this thread, which has created some confusion. I notice though, that the 'purchasing ' thread seems to have been devoted to/hijacked by LP purchases, so maybe this 'everything analogue' purchasing thread still has a place here.  Cheers....:)

The Currently Purchasing thread is in the music section, so that's why its only music (mainly vinyl).

So your thread is still very valid! :)

What Have You Bought Today?

Nothing. Some one outbid me for a Pioneer PL-7L/PL 90 on Fleabay. Anyone here?

Let's be honest, don't need it as got LP12/SP10 to work on but a nice turnkey TT that I could play today would be nice.

Hmm, I've been bad.

A Meridian processor

A Teralink USB - SPDI/F converter

8 vintage NOS six inch cast iron and plate steel fixed castors.

Cheers,

Jason.

Nice scores Jason.

And yes you have been bad, mentioning your non-analogue stuff in this analogue thread! :) :D

My old one died, so just ordered a new one

Yeah, I thought my post was borderline [1], but the Meridian does have a great analogue to digital converter in it, and I will be plugging my 1/2 track tape deck into it.

Cheers,

Jason.

[1] - Possibly the first digitally recorded vinyl album ?

Do you want to match your Edison with the Marconi line stage :offtopic:

Tempting, but I think I'll let the system settle for a while.

I bought this from a garage sale yesterday. Pioneer SM-Q300 valve twin tuner amplifier. All tube (19 including the magic eye). I have no idea if it works yet, and it needs a really good clean and lookover before powering up.

As yet I am undecided if I really want to go through the pains of a full restoration on it, but I couldn't just leave it there. Pics are in the as purchased state, and a bit crappy because they were taken on my phone.

I didn't buy but inherited this Denon stack a few weeks ago, it's in Italy (as am I) right now and currently contemplating what I might ship back to AUS.

There is a preamp, Power amp, cd, tuner and twin cassette - it's like 1990 all over again. Oh and a Pioneer turntable which makes beautiful sound through the preamp into headphones.

Today I purchased, on Ebay, a Grace Level ll 'gold' cartridge (based on the F8), hardly used with original level ll stylus that looks pristine. It was originally $380 ('buy it now' or 'make an offer'), he knocked it down a couple of times, then I offered him $280 and he accepted. I am very happy:D.....I did read somewhere that some consider this cart as better than the Grace F9, and I have wanted one of those for ages. The level ll and the similarly upgraded F9, which was known as the F14, were released in the early 80's and were among the last carts released by Grace before they stopped making audio gear. Here are some pic's of actual cart, as you can see, it's very clean (pic 4 was the clincher!:P) Should arrive in a few days from Melbourne :thumb: :Grace Level ll cart-side view.jpgGrace Level ll cart-front view.jpgGrace Level ll cart-rear view.jpgGrace Level ll cart-stylus view.jpg

You must let me know how that sounds. The Grace F9 is in my top 3 most desirable carts along with the Empire MC5 and Supex SD900. Definitely a bargain :)

Grace Level II arrived today. Have listened to a few LP's so far, and yes, I am smiling.:) Obviously similar in sound to the F8C, but even more refined, if that is possible, but if I were to pick an obvious though subtle difference, it would be that the bass is a little tighter but no quite so prominent as the F8C. I made a similar comparison when I first auditioned my DL103, and I now love the DL103. So far, I love this one too, but want to tinker around a bit with VTF, atm it's at 1.5g ('optimum'), which is the same as what is recommended for the F8C, but I have settled on the F8C at 1.0g, so we'll hear how that goes. An intense night of music ahead!:D More later......(might start a first impressions thread, to avoid derailing his thread.;))

First impressions/review thread started. MattyW, if you can get one of these, maybe forget the F9....maybe. I can't believe I just said that and while I'll admit that I haven't actually heard an F9:D, the Level II is truly awe inspiring!:thumb:

What is the power tube?

Posted (edited)

Hi Mark, The outputs are twin EL84's, but if you are talking about the power rectifier, it has a pair of SE-05B rectifier diodes.

@bob_m_54 recently sold a DIY EL84 SE UL amp, based on the Deceare design, to another SNA member who loved it. This is really a great tube. I'm a big fan of tube rectification where possible. It sets the tone for the amps overall sound.
