Nonetheless, thought it was high time I shared some shots of a recent calibration. These are taken from an 85" Samsung Q900B which I recently calibrated. They are a very well behaved television when it comes to calibration, with excellent greyscale accuracy obtained with just the two point greyscale controls. Of course, using the 20-point greyscale controls meant that better than reference results were able to be achieved, particularly when it came to gamma. Post calibration images were beautiful and the client was very happy. Will be back in a couple of weeks to calibrate game modes for this client. Nice colour in those pics, very vivid. Have not kept up to speed with the technology - is qled a genuine rival to oled?

Clarity Calibration Posted September 29, 2022 Author Posted September 29, 2022 I recently added this little bit of kit.... early days, but excellent results thus far!! The Harkwood Sync-One2. Incorporating both a light sensor and microphone, this nifty little device can accurately measure +/- av delay (lip sync) in milliseconds. 5
Clarity Calibration Posted June 27, 2023 Author Posted June 27, 2023 Some shots of a C2 OLED I calibrated in Melbourne. This one has 3x 3D LUT Calibrations for SDR, HDR and Dolby Vision. LUT Calibration is the ONLY way to calibrate these televisions. It offers a far greater accuracy than a calibration with the TVs standard calibration controls. It does this by communicating directly with the televisions memory board, bypassing the standard calibration controls. The benefit of this is that it offers control of up nearly 5 thousand points of colour, as opposed to the six points available in the inbuilt user controls. Think of it as calibration on steriods! By using a LUT calibration I was also able to input the C2s exact light output. This enabled its Dynamic Tone Mapping to work more effectively for HDR. I was also able to measure and report the colour co-ordinates for Dolby Vision, thereby updating Dolby Vision's "golden reference" for this particular OLED. In case you're wondering, that's Media Lights D65 bias lighting that's behind the TV. This, in my opionion is the icing on the cake! 4
Clarity Calibration Posted August 7, 2023 Author Posted August 7, 2023 Something a little different... The client not only needed these projectors to look a whole lot better but also match one another as they are used for conferences. In the first shot, the projector on the right has been calibrated, but the one on the left hasn't been done yet. The horrible green/yellow tinge has been removed, and the colour has been improved substantially.... although there's going to need to be further fine-tuning performed on the projector on the right, after the left-hand projector's been calibrated. The second shot is after the left-hand projector was calibrated. Colour accuracy and light output have been matched, but if you look closely, the projector on the right leans slightly towards blue. Even though dE is for the most part, within the acceptable threshold, as you can see, errors can still be visible, particularly with displays side by side. The last image is after both projectors have been calibrated - apologies I haven't got the original image for comparison! Further fine-tuning has been done to match the images; the blue bias now removed from the projector on the right. As the room is used for presentation, the projectors were also assessed with room lighting. 3
RCADees Posted August 8, 2023 Posted August 8, 2023 That is a great comparison Tony. Looking forward to getting mine calibrated soon and learn a bit more about the magic! 1
Clarity Calibration Posted May 7, 2024 Author Posted May 7, 2024 (edited) Another before and after calibration comparison, courtesy of the client who sent these pics to me a few days after the calibration. Unbeknownst to me, he had taken a picture before calibration for later comparison... a great way to compare the results! After replacing his older Sony LED/LCD he went with a Sony A95L OLED. The A95L is a stunner with a true RGB panel and Quantum Dot Technology. However, unlike WRGB OLEDs (LG, etc.), which exhibit a slight green/cyan colour cast, RGB panels tend to exhibit a purplish cast (see image 1). And, while the extended colour gamut of these displays creates excellent HDR and DV images, SDR can be a little overblown, particularly with red. Calibration with a Klein K10A colourimeter and JETI 1501 spectroradiometer corrected both of these issues and created extraordinary images. Clarity Calibration Posted November 5, 2024 Author Posted November 5, 2024 An absolute Stunner, the Sony VPL-XW7000ES Projector coupled with a Lumagen Radiance Pro. Calibrated with a JETI 1501 Spectro and Klein K10A Colorimeter. After checking the geometry on the Sony VPL-XW7000ES (kudos to the client who had already done a wonderful job, panel alignment and focus were completed. The Klein K10A was then profiled to the JETI, the completed profile then checked for accuracy against the JETI. The Sony VPL-XW7000ES then had a base calibration, including grayscale, black level, and white point. The Colour Profiles were checked to ensure they were as close as possible to the SDR Rec. 709 standard and HDR P3/2020 standard. Two 1D/3D LUT Calibrations were then completed via the Lumagen Radiance Pro. These were then checked for accuracy before beginning verification with actual content, during which the Lumagen's controls (including Tone Mapping) were fine-tuned. Now it's time to finish up a few articles for Stereonet before heading to Sydney, the Gold Coast for a couple of solid weeks calibrating!
Clarity Calibration Posted November 21, 2024 Author Posted November 21, 2024 An oldie but a goodie! Panasonic OLED still looks great despite being nearly seven years old. Here are some screenshots of a Panasonic TH-65EZ1000U that I calibrated for a client this week in Adelaide. Custom profiled with a JUDD offset with a JETI Spectroradiometer and Klein K10A colourimeter, this one came up as a treat. One very happy customer and calibrator! 1
Clarity Calibration Posted December 10, 2024 Author Posted December 10, 2024 (edited) Back on the road again... this time in NSW with a Sony's VPL-VW500ES. Although the customer will eventually move to a new laser projector, his current projector will have to suffice for a little longer, so the lamp was replaced, and I was asked to calibrate it in the hopes of giving the VPL-VW5000ES. I was greeted with a washed-out image, seriously undersaturated colours and a very blue greyscale. This one needed quite a bit of work to get back up to speed, but the results were well worth it, and I had one very happy customer! I managed to capture some before and after snaps which I've included below. After shots are followed by before shots... Edited December 10, 2024 by Clarity Calibration 1 1
