I think the sound wall was still X3 panels of speakers with the rest treatment squares.

Posted

mine has left/treatment/center/treatment/right,

5 panels each 2 foot square. 10 foot wide, 2 foot high.

no prospect of an upgrade downstairs for those three speakers.  They are keepers. subs could change.  Gravitas is dragging me in.... perhaps

Limited edition. $3,000 per pair. In black oak. Insanely high quality finishes a little more.

I love insanely high quality finishes. Which varieties are on offer?

Mmm just looking at the book matched veneer makes me think of a nice personalised inlaid veneer model :-)

Indeed.

VAF have always been notable for their finishes and the overall build quality of every speaker they make and it seems the EVO is no exception. I will certainly be checking them out in the coming week or so.

Looks like Phil did very well and is still making awesome speakers. He should be very proud. If only I could afford a pair of the big ones....

The beauty of the cost of Vaf Speakers compared to similar overseas quality is your not paying for Overseas Shipping ,Import Duties, Dealer markup  and remember the 10 year warranty and in my experience the guy they sent out to deliver my speakers was also the speaker designer . :thumb:

I know. Which is why I own a set of DC-X's. Awesome build quality and sound and Phil is a really nice bloke as well.

My only regret is not buying a pair of the big ones before mortgages and kids etc because they really are in a league of their own imho.

Do you have the new DC-X63 or the previous model? Of course both are awesome but the new model is awesome in its awesomeness ;)

Mine are Mk 4 DC-X I think. Theyre about 10 years old now. Ive thought about getting some of the smaller DC's for the rears but every time I get near enough money stashed away the fun police or one of the kids needs something.

How can I not comment on the effort that this Australian icon, VAF, put into their exhibition at the 2016 Melbourne International HiFi Show. As long time friends, and supporters of StereoNET, VAF Research were quick to jump and support us in this initiative. This doesn't go without being noticed - they invested in an unknown as far as show organising goes. We are very grateful to VAF for that.

Secondly, they took the most prominent room available in the show and they sure made a statement. Anyone who saw the room would agree it looked exceptional, but many of you would not have seen just what went on behind the scenes to make that happen. Hours, upon hours of contractors working away, and only then, late the night before opening could VAF staff even get it to start setting up there products. I was constantly checking in to see how it was going, and despite serious pressure they would have been under to get it all done in time, there was nothing but level heads and a calmness from all concerned.

A professional brand, professional but absolutely friendly and down to earth staff, and exceptional cutting edge products from a brand that is one of the pioneers in HiFi in not only Australia, but also on a global level.

While I didn't get the opportunity to sit through their presentations, each time I looked in the room it was packed from show opening and until after show close each day.

As far as effort, commitment, and display quality goes, VAF easily take out the Best Presented Room at the 2016 Melbourne International HiFi Show in my book. :thumb:

Agreed, Philip was presenting non-stop which was great for punters. Many rooms were just endless hours of music playback with little or no information freely given by the exhibitors - at a minimum, I feel, every exhibitor should have given a brief spiel about the gear on display each hour. Some rooms, this simply didn't happen.

Not only was the VAF room the biggest and best looking, but Philip made sure to cycle through the products so people got a listen to everything on display and the presentations he gave were informative, frequent enough for anyone just wandering in and yet, they never seemed intrusive to the experience of looking and listening to what was on display.

A great effect and I echo Marc's opinion that it was the Best Room In Show.

I'd like to chime in and thank Marc and Stereonet for an exceptionally well run show, you guys really set a new benchmark - I've attended a A LOT of shows (as an exhibitor) and this would be the smoothest and most hassle free to date in our outside of Australia. (This has to include a thanks to the Pullman Mecure staff for which nothing it seemed was too much trouble.)

Also a huge thanks to the attendees, many current VAF friends made the trip and it was great to see them,  :thumb:. I'd also like to say it was great to see so many new faces experiencing our products for the first time and finding out what we're about.

I'd also like to say a huge thanks to the electronics suppliers partnered with us - without which speakers tend to be pretty useless I've found...

Firstly Australian company DEQX - we were proud to have their WORLD class product in the front end of the system running our 93's blending in with the big Gravitas subs. Allan and the DEQX guys have a truly amazing product there and I'm looking forward to working with them in the future.

Radiance AV supplied the amps for us, to which I've taken a particular liking - DENSEN 150 integrated and 320 power amp to drive the 93's a 175 integrated to drive our other Signature ranges including the new little Evo1  :) Source was a DENSEN 140 CD player into a CHORD 2Cute DAC. (and we do actually recommend and supply these products to our customers ;) )

Also the SoundWall driven by an Anthem AV receiver and Oppo Bluray. The SoundWall many heard in full flight for the first time, it was satisfying to see the smiles!

Thanks again to all and I'm looking forward to next year!

Cheers,

Simon

The finish on the VAF Speakers was stunning to behold...

The big room may have been detrimental to their small speakers however the I93's were outstanding.

Philip and the team obviously put a lot of work into their room and it was very welcoming, staff were helpful and there were some great products on display.

VAF seem to me to be trying to create the type of speakers that audiophiles want to own but their partners are happy to live with. If this is accurate I think they are doing a great job and I will continue to watch this brand with interest.

not as big as that one though.. Mine is 8 years old now. Might be time for some 0.5 sub upgrades... :)

Went in to VAF today - It was like Rundle Street. On a busy day.

Spoke to Phillip briefly (Darren was in , as was Simon, all three were busy!) and said that the Gravitas wasn't the solution but the Platforms looked and sounded good.

My wife (the one in charge of WAF and with better ears) came in, and suggested the aesthetics would be better with a single upright Gravitas rather than two Gravitas 0.5's, and better for our lounge than two platforms.  She was right.  It was not a solution I ever considered, but it is the right one.A large minimalist solution.

The sound of the Gravitas 1.0 Upright was better than our 2 by LFE-03's (not surprising, given the difference in price and footprint) so an order of a re-tweaked new product could be happening, sitting in the corner of our lounge out of the way.  The upright Gravitas 1.0 with speaker cover might become a new standard item at VAF - we will see.

To be confirmed.

ps there will be some older VAF subs for sale, shortly.....  Good price, good pedigree.
