Hifi repair in Sydney

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Having been away for work overseas I have finally came home and was looking forward to setting up my hifi.  Unfortunately after being boxed up and stored for about 5 years 3 of my components are not working.

1. Melos PS1 tube phono preamplifier which has lost one of its channel but also developed a hum.

2. Denon AUS 1 step up transformer for the DLS1 cartridge have lost one of its channel.

3. California Audio Labs CL2500 DVD player now only plays CDs.

I was wondering if Sydney members have any recommendation about who and where I could get these repaired at a reasonable cost.

Thanks

Al

Hi all,

Just wondering if there are any other repairers I can actually go to on a Saturday.  Rang Kimil Electronics and they don't open on Saturdays so no way for me to drop the equipment off to get them repaired.

Thanks

Alan

Once again, I cannot recommend Chris from Kimil Electrionics in Croydon Park highly enough. Great service and most importantly unlike the other repairers, Chris is ON TIME. When he told me he can fix the amp in one week, he did exactly that. It is this kind of professionalism we need more of.

Familiar with calling and hoping your gear to get fixed again and again and again and only get told week after week after week? I made a mistake taking my amp to another repairer because Chris was on holiday and won't be open for 2 weeks. I should have waited!

To be fair, I was warned by this repairer that he was very busy, but he first said to me he can "put the amp on the bench" the next week. So I thought it was quite reasonable. Who knows the amp was sitting in the workshop collecting dust for 4 weeks. Delaying after promises again and again and again was just bad practice.

I was glad that I decided to take the amp and gave it to Chris after 4 weeks of calling and only to be told next week again.

Good to know, don't need a repairer now but you never know when you gonna need one.

I bet the buzzing on one dead channel with the tube phono is a tube going out of shape. Or a capacitor. The Melos are notorious for this and not limited to the phonos.

If you’re looking for someone who is based in the Sutherland Shire in Sydney, I can recommend John Creedy on 0434 721 856. After someone else doing a bodgy half repair of my vintage 70s Pioneer amp and taking several weeks to do it, John fixed their bad work, corrected aspect of the Amp that the previous guy had declared unrepairable, did it for a fraction of the price, and did it in under an hour. The guy is a wizard. He also fixes TVs, DVD players and other entertainment related electronics.

Mr Kim needs to start operating on Saturdays...at least for drop offs & pick ups :D

Chris is only working Wednesday to Friday at the moment while he is doing some home building so the chances of interrupting his fishing on the weekend has no chance .

You could try Speaker hospital in Condell Park. I have never used them.

https://www.speakerhospital.com.au/

They do hifi repairs, had my old Akai Ref CD player fixed and serviced while they were redoing my Apogee speakers, they did fantastic work, even sewed a new sock for one of the speakers ?

I have also used Chris Kimil for my Linn LP 12, fast and efficient.  Had big problems with another repairer in Sydney so make sure you get references.
