  1. Factory terminated 3 meter pair of Chord EpicX. I have tried lots of speaker cables, many that were more expensive however, I kept coming back to this pair as they are tremendous value for an entry to mid-tier system. Additional information: https://chord.co.uk/product/epic-speaker-cable/ Current recommended retail $1250
  2. Any old excuse for a Poll. It's just been too long. I made myself some RG213-U speaker cables long ago and used them on and off until now they are a bit frail and their terminations (serviceable but not great to begin with) and now getting fairly ratty. So, since I no longer have access to a decent shed full of tools I asked Geoff of Aurealis audio to make me up a set, and he did. Of course he used higher quality spades and bananas than my original pair and added some nice looking braid as well, so my new pair is much nicer to look at than my old pair (which is soon to be recycled for bits). Nicely finished. And labeled too. Fancy! What's that, you want to see a pic of my old pair. No, you don't. You really don't. Trust me on this. The reason I built a pair of speaker cables out of RG213-U in the first place was that it was touted as the lowest inductance cable that you could get your hands on at a decent price. And for speaker cables inductance is an important quality, so I bought some and put a pair together. Their performance was good, often not noticeable as better or worse than any of the other speaker cable pairs I have had... but not always. The big plus of these babies was made clear to me when I tried them out with my Halcro power amp. That's right, $40-odd dollar speaker cables used with an eye-wateringly expensive power amp, yep. Once I'd tried them together no other speaker cables quite lived up to the RG213, the bass weight of the Halcro just didn't sound as good with anything else. This did seem odd to me, but you know, stranger things and all that, probably a synergy thing, so I filed that info away for possible later use and moved on. Move forwards to now and I've got a fancy new set that I was thinking of using as my standard cables for all my amp evaluating. I have more expensive cables but many of the amps I write up are $3K and below and no-one is going to use $1K cables with these so nice cheap-and-effective speaker cables seem like a good idea. But, it turns out that they have a pretty distinct sound. I discovered this a few days ago while having a preliminary listen to a borrowed Naim XS 2 (which I intended to be listening to today). At first I thought that the Naim had an extremely good top end and mid range but the bass was big, broad and prominent, slow and muddled and not very deep. The vocals were some of the best I had ever heard and the musicality was simply astounding but that bass was quite the let down. Changing speaker cables brought the bass speed and detail back up and removed the muddled effect but it took a little of the musicality with it. Still a good amp but one that now sounds different enough that I need another few hours to get used to it before I start making notes on it. So, that's why the Poll (not that we need a reason, that's just a bonus). Any others out there with RG213-U speaker cable experience?
  3. Hi, I'm looking at some speaker cables and wondering why some speaker cables use a dielectric which reduces the total gauge? Surely more wires would be better than seperating each one, I mean they start and end joined together anyway. Has anyone found they sound better or know the science behind it? Or is it just a raught? Regards, Byron
  4. Has anyone tried this cable? What are your thoughts? http://www.analysis-plus.com/prod_spkrcable.html http://www.analysis-...val9highres.jpg
  5. I'm not one to spend big on cables but occasionally I'll try things out if the price is right, ie a bargain. Cleaning out the spare room recently I came across these cables I bought several years ago from ebay US. They're XLO VDO speaker cables with some funky looking braiding going on. I also have some XLO Reference interconnects and they too have a spiraled construction wrapped around a flexible hollow tube. I use the interconnects in my system and I'll get around to trying out the speaker cables again but is there any reason why the braided design would be beneficial to sound quality in these designs? Is there a actually a difference in performance between "HT" cables and "hifi" ones? Or is all this along with the THX branding more likely a case of the marketing department having their say? It's a manic time of year so thanks in advance if you find time to reply. Cheers, Leg11 ps. I noticed one of the cables has a tiny scuff mark exposing the wire. My guess is probably from being dragged across amp cooling fins. Any suggestions on repair? A dab of hot glue?
  6. Hi All, I have been reading about Belden's new cables for several months in the PS Audio forums (USA). Several pre-production sets were being evaluated and much of the feedback was very, very positive however there wasn't; A) little information from Belden themselves regarding the cable design, measurements, background and, B) you couldn't purchase them. The above has been solved so I thought I'd pass on the information for inquisitive minds here. I'm not involved in any way with Belden or HansonAV in the USA who are selling the product. I merely post for your information. I cannot personally comment on the performance as I haven't purchased any either! If they are as good as ppl say perhaps they are worth considering. At least the company has published performance figures, design and the whys of what they consider important. Enjoy the read. 7. Hello there, Can any one recommend a some value for money speaker cables and connectors of good quality. Any help and input much appreciated. Thanks SBM
  8. Hi, I've recently acquired a pair of monoblock amps (Vincent SP T700) which I will place fairly close to my Floorstanding speakers. This is quite different to my current setup of a stereo amp, where my wires are 3m long. Is there a minimum length wire restriction? Benefits of shorter vs longer? I've read before about interconnects and digital cables, but I didn't think it applied to these. And for the bonus question - bi-wiring vs. single wiring with bridge. The new monoblocks can do bi-wiring, and so can my speakers.
  9. Item: Audioquest Gibraltar (1.5m) Location: Lane Cove 2066 Price: (rrp$1200) plus postage Item Condition: 9/10 Reason for selling: surplus Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, can post at cost as I have the original packaging Extra Info: a superb cable from Audioquest, purchased from an authorized local dealer. 10. Item: Purist Audio Design Musaeus Speaker Cable - 1.5M pair* (measures over 2M). Purist Audio Interconnects (1M) - 1 pair with XLR and 1 pair with RCA. Location: Melbourne (3032) Price: RELISTED Item Condition: Excellent. Comes with black pouch & documentation to confirm originality (although I don't believe PAD cables are knocked off in the same way Audioquest seems to be). Reason for selling: No longer required (I will be listing PAD interconnects as well). Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: These cables are the Praesto edition of the Museaus line. The speaker cable actually measure approx. 2.1M tip to tip (spade ends) - so would suit anyone who needs 2M length (as I did). Anyone who owns PAD cables would agree the build quality is beyond reproach and the sound is excellent. I am not upgrading - couldn't afford to buy something that could better the performance of these! Pictures: (Photos of IC's to come)
  11. Item: Chord Signature Speaker Cable 2mtr Location: Williamstown, VIC Price: $450 $400 + postage Item Condition: Good Reason for selling: NLR Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: I bought these as a second set - I liked my first set so much that I bought these. The Chord Signature speaker cables were my first serious high-end speaker cables. I'd been stuffing around with DIY cables, and cheap cables, so when I put the money down for these they were the most expensive speaker cables that I'd ever bought. But boy oh boy did they deliver. These cables will make your music come alive, improve the sound stage depth and width of your playback, and delivers a vice like grip on full and extended bass. Fantastic upgrade for someone who wants to step into the high-end without breaking the bank. This pair are black, and are slightly different to my first pair that are a later version with the red and black outer sheath. When I purchased them I thought I got ripped off, but I did quite a bit of research and these are the way the Signature speaker cables came out originally. Spades at one end, banana plugs at the other. Spades show signs of wear, but they are still solid and reliable. I did a compare with my other set, and I could hear absolutely no difference. So for these are a real bargain as the current version costs $1900: https://www.vinylrevival.com.au/products/chord-signature-speaker-cable?utm_source=google&utm_medium=smart_campaign&utm_campaign=gs-2018-11-03&ref=SFDR_238078668&variant=13759816899&ptcid=27736_389_379368720&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIraHOhIqQ3wIVhCQrCh3ihQwpEAYYASABEgIPi_D_BwE PLEASE NOTE - These are a stiff cable so need a little more space than flexible cables, but unless you have your speakers up against the wall, shouldn't be a problem. 22. Item: Chord Epic Super Twin (bi-wire) speaker cables - 2M Location: Sydney Price: SOLD Item Condition: Very good (9/10) Reason for selling: A different direction Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, EFT, Paypal (+ fee) Extra Info: For sale is a pair of bi-wire (factory terminated) Chord Epic speaker cables, the Chord Epic Super Twin. Otherwise known in these parts as "the hosepipes". These Chord Company cables were made as either standard single wire (Epic) or bi-wire (Epic Super Twin). For example (new): https://www.lifestylestore.com.au/chord-epic-twin-3m-pair-factory-terminated.html Reviewers have said: (Techradar) "This is a modestly thick cable (10mm in diameter) but it is very tractable and certainly less bulky than Chord's other new cable, Epic Super Twin. This cable mirrors the construction of Epic Twin but doubles up the conductors, making it ideal for bi-wiring or 'shotgunning', where two sets of cable are connected to one set of 4mm plugs. Interestingly, the two cables have much the same aural fingerprint, which is best summed up as being musical without being noticeably 'hi-fi'. There is no sheen or edge to this cable, rather it has a relaxed quality, with a full and solid bass, but not so full it sounds anything less than well controlled. By the same token, it is a detailed-sounding cable, but not in the hyper-analytical sense in which the term is often used for some true high-end cables. It's not the sort of cable to startle you in any particular way; it's just always a pleasure to listen to. But you will find it takes a long time to fully burn in - not unknown with previous Chord cables." (https://www.techradar.com/au/reviews/audio-visual/hi-fi-and-audio/hi-fi-accessories/chord-co-epic-twin-93958/review) (Hifi Choice) "To sum up these cables in one word, they are 'musical'. In short, they are quite simply a superb sounding set of speaker cables." (https://www.chord.co.uk/product-review-epic-twin-speaker-cable-hi-fi-choice-sept-2014/) Pictures:
