Build and Appearance: This amp has been hand built by the amazing Eric McChanson, with all the parts being painstakingly pre-painted by me, then carefully assembled by Eric. Colour is a combination of Piano Gloss Black chassis, with Purple/Violet pearl faceplate and transformer covers. All HIGH GLOSS 2 Pack finish. Please note that the colour often looks BLUE on certain screens and indeed the camera phone I used took the photo as blue. I can assure you its a blueish PURPLE/VIOLET. It has LARGE Russian K75-10 (0.68uf) coupling caps, which sound absolutely beautiful. CMC binding posts and nice firm quality RCA inputs, TEFLON tube sockets, Stepped volume control, 4 switchable inputs. 4 & 8 ohm speaker terminals. Rectifier Tube: Mullard Reproduction GZ34 Driver tubes: Admiral 6EM7 Power Tubes: Genalex Gold Lion Reproduction. Power: approx 8 Watts "smooth as silk" Triode Class A Bias: Manual bias (will provide instructions on sale) THE SOUND: It's VERY SMOOTH, has good BASS, has very AIRY treble, BEAUTIFUL vocal tonality, and deep soundstage (speaker dependent). Recently, I tried some PsVane 300B tubes and it sounded even more detailed, however, Genalex are quite natural/neutral sounding. NOTE...You must have 90 dB or better efficient speakers. I am using them with open baffle 93-94 dB Speakers. Approx 1 year old. I am happy to audition for serious buyers at my house in MELBOURNE. I can post for approx $60 to most METRO areas. Item: Marantz CD-75 Mk2 - Lampizated with Musical Fidelity tube strage + new DAC (Lampucera) with balanced outputs Location: Perth Price: 799 (is advertised elsewhere at $999) Item Condition: used Reason for selling: to see if there's any interest and hence any point in doing mods to other equipment Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, Direct Transfer, COD Only Extra Info: I came across this Marantz CD-75 Mk2 for a reasonable price and given it has CDM-2 die-cast alloy, swing arm, magnetic drive mechanism and TDA-1541A DAC (plus plenty of space inside of the box), I decided to do some mods to it. There are more things to this player like fully copper plated boards, Nichicon caps etc. but I will not bore you with it. To gain some further real estate, I removed the voltage selector and variable output boards. This made installation of XLR sockets for the balanced output of CS4397 Cirrus Logic 24/192 DAC much easier. Another output from this DAC is fed to the anode follower tube stage which is a clone of Musical Fidelity X10-D design. All up, this CD player has a original digital coaxial SPDIF output and three analogues ones: original one from TDA-1541 balanced from the CS4397 and tube, single ended Musical Fidelity X10-D This can fill up most of the inputs of many amps but provides a lot of choice if you have preferences as to different DACs/output types for different types of music. To gain 2nd opinion and to hear it on a different system to which I am not used to, I did take it to another very respected and very familiar with untold amount of systems SNA member. We listened to a number of players that were available at the time: Killer DAC/Marantz CD-94 combo, Oppo-105 using balanced out and Naim NACD3 - all connected to Electrocompaniet pre/power and 2m tall Dyneaudio speakers. The results were not unfavorable to my little concoction - particularly when using the tube output. Very clean and no real marks to speak off. Perfect working order. EL34's sound excellent on mid-range, especially in SE mode. One of the amps has two marginally offset holes in front panel where the switches are. Visible in one of the pics. Have some other tubes as well if anyone is interested. With great reluctance and bending to family pressure, I'm simplifying the system to be a single switch setup, that everyone can operate. If you want a pre that lets you walk onto the stage and shake hands with the artists, this is it! Uses 6SN7 pre drivers to drive a pair of 2A3 tubes, the back pair are voltage rectifiers. There is a hum circuit with trim pot under the chassis. I have the circuit diagram which is included. Remote feels solid, milled from a solid piece of aluminium, but is best described as ordinary and only controls volume and mute (if you get the angle just right). For some reason beyond me they they get crap prices in Australia. I find that hard to understand, considering the cost of importing them, then the fact that the replacement ribbons are actually made here. They are great for all sorts of music, with acoustic music and voice being their special area. Te best results I have had was with a 10 watt SET OTL amp, and they were just stunning (sadly Iblew one of these mono blocks but you can test then with the working one) They show the best with high end sources, such as high res digital and audiophile vinyl In the review above one respondent critics the bass drivers- however this is much disputed on other forums, e.g. the planar asylum.
