I don't mean to rain on anyones parade, but you can setup the projector to make SDR video look just like the "great HDR image", and setup older JVC's to look the same as the new models as well, for both SDR and HDR. The new models are not brighter, don't go as black and everything in between is adjustable via the projectors internal adjustments and or external equipment. So if you know what you are doing you can have whatever "look" you like with any projector and make any good projector look like any other. The advantage for the the "new" models is more pleasing re mapping of HDR video for use with what is an SDR display device, a task previous models didn't do very well by default. They need a range of custom gamma maps that can be called up to best suite each individual movie title for best results and the new models still will. The new automated system will no doubt be an advance for the average consumer who doesn't want to play around with gamma maps or doesn't know how, but it will always be a compromise. If you want to have your SDR movies look like your HDR movies you will still need to implement custom gamma maps for SDR. JVC could have automated this just like the auto HDR mapping but chose not too, probably because it would show people that HDR on a projector is nothing more than tweaked SDR and thats not good for marketing.

Does any members out there using SDR front ends such as the SDRplay RSP1 and RSP2 or the inexpensive RTL2832U based units that have been modified to receive long, medium and shortwave freqs? Currently I'm using an SDRplay RSP1 and SDRuno or SDR Console v3 on my PC for my day to day listening on MW and shortwave.

http://www.titusradio.com/ A little surprised AlanH hasn’t already posted this one, as it was unveiled about a week ago (at the HFCC B16 conference). It’s essentially an Android tablet with wideband tuner hardware, running SDR apps for decoding of AM, FM, & DRM, all bundled up in a portable radio form-factor. It’s made by PantronX, a Panama-based electronics design/assembly house, seemingly in conjunction with Trans World Radio (the world’s-largest Christian evangelical broadcaster, which explains the name). CPU is a quad-core ARM A53, it has 1G RAM / 8G Flash and, given the claimed coverage (100kHz - 2GHz), the tuner is likely to be a Mirics MSi001/2. The interesting thing? The final price is said to be “well below $100” (presumably $US). That’s less than 1/2 the price of the only other DRM receiver currently available - the extremely disappointing Avion AV-DR-1401 from India. Ongoing coverage can be found at the usual DRM-ish places (e.g. the DRMNA website here and here).

Item: SDR (Superdupont Resonator) MOD for Sennheiser HD800 headphones Location: Altona (VIC) Price: $25 Item Condition: new Reason for selling: no longer required Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: This is most popular mod for Sennheiser HD800 headphones usially called French mod, Super Dupont Resonator or SDR. The kit is brand new and was purchased directly from the author, known as Sorrodje on Super Best Audio Friends forum where the mod came to live. Personally (and its not just me) after many auditions I think HD800 with mod sounds better than HD800s, which to me has 'spoiled' sound signature where it lost some clarity in bass (which is hard to improve) perhaps gaining tiny bit more in quantity (which is usually easy to do with things like ear pads). Dreaded HD800 treble spike is gone on both. I have originally purchased two pair just in case and I haven't touched second at all pair at all as it was really super easy to do. Have no need for it now. Pickup from Altona (VIC) or can post anywhere in Australia. Here is some more on the mod, what it does and how to put it in: - https://www.innerfidelity.com/content/sennheiser-hd-800-s-tweaked-and-delightfuland-french-diy-response - http://aornic.com/reviews/2016/8/23/sennheiser-hd800-superdupont-resonator-mod - http://www.superbestaudiofriends.org/index.php?threads/hd800-french-mod-aka-superdupont-resonator.1147/ Pictures:
