Hello, I have narrowed down my screen requirements to couple products. The Stewart Firehawk G4 and the Screen Innovation Slate 1.2. I would like to drop the screen down from the ceiling. I am hoping to find owner feedback on either of these screens here. Could you share your experience and point me in the right direction towards a dealer who can supply and install, please. Thanks in advance, Basky

Hi all Seeking some advice on motorised retractable screens as I’m brand new to this space. I have an existing 130-140” fixed screen in one room in the house but looking to move the home theatre into a slightly larger room with a better footprint, but a few wall constraints for the screen placement. Thus I’m looking into a retractable screen. The new room is approx 6.9m x 5m x 2.4m (high). Viewing distance will be about 3.5m back. I would like to run my centre speaker behind the screen so looking at an acoustically transparent (AT) screen. From my brief research, it looks like the AT screen may limit my options. Bigger is generally better in my eyes so hoping I can get away with a 140-150” 16:9 screen fixed to the ceiling. Will be a light controlled room with blockout curtains. My questions: - What are the downsides to a motorised vs fixed screen e.g. are the motors reliable and quiet, do the screens stay flat or do they curl, do they ripple if an air-con is in the room? - How does the image performance of retractable screen material compare to a fixed tensioned screen? - Is tab tensioning necessary? - Are 140”+ AT screens available? I could only see Elite Screens in 100” & 125” options. - Are the borders generally painted black or fabric or can you get them in black velvet? I’m not a fan of the large horizontal black border on the top of many screens I’ve googled (it looks very cheap 4:3 office screen). - What companies do you recommend that are available in Australia? Screen Technics, Elite Screens, LP Morgan, Seymour AV? With thanks Justin

I am looking for some pictures and ideas for DIY masking for my screen. I first bought a 135" scope screen and zoom my epson projector to fill the screen, was pretty happy with it till I found watching 16:9 movies or music videos is really hard as the projector doesnt have lens memory I have to manually zoom it. So I bought a 16:9 screen now I can play both content but the problem is when playing scope content the top and bottom black bars which really annoys me. I now have both of these screens and I am happy to keep either one of those which I can make a perfect cost effective masking system. I know many of you guys did DIY masking here, so if you can share some picture and ideas that would be really great. Changing projector with a lens memory is an expensive option and my current epson is only a year old. Thanks in advance.

I am looking for a fixed projector screen, 16:9 ratio any size between 120"-130" viewing area. Something like OZTS, LP morgan, Screen technics or the likes. No budget for a new one hence if someone is looking to upgrade their 16:9 to a scope.. Reason: I thought I will use my home theater only for movies hence bought a 133" scope screen but now my kid plays musics videos, youtubes, cartoons, games etc on it, so i guess a 16:9 screen is better for the purpose and flexible. Using an epson projector and it doesnt have auto zoom function. I am located in melbourne.

Hi, I am new to the forum although I have been reading it for a while. I have recently built a house with a dedicated theatre room. I have a few questions regarding equipment and setup I was hoping someone could help me with. Firstly I was looking at an Epson EH-9200 projector. They have a factory refurbished model on their website for $2279. Has anyone bought a factory refurbished model? Is it pretty much the same as brand new? The reason I am looking at a refurbished one is so I can afford the Aussie Theatre Screens Evo 4k projector screen. From what I can tell these are worth the extra cost. Do people agree or would I be better off buying a brand new version of the projector and a cheaper bundled screen? Lastly is it hard to set the projector up myself? I was hoping to do so but would you recommend I get a professional installer instead? Thanks Very Much, Douglas

Hi All, thought that I would post my activities over the last few days. 12 months ago I went from a 100 inch 16x9 to 130 inch scope screen with a mk3+c and now a mk4 aussiemorphic lens. There a well know comprimises with A-lens, prisms (ie mke 3+c) will exhibit minor non uniformity and CA particularly at the left and right edges and cylindical (mk4) whilst providing clear and sharp focus across the whole image generally suffer minor pin cushioning. (note trying to start a war here just stating the facts and note I did say minor) Anyway in my setup the pin cushining is approximately 25 to 30 mm (top and bottom) at the centre for approx 3100 mm screen width. Not a lot but like all these things when you know its there is bugs the hell out of you. You can see the impact on the attached image which is a grid pattern, the top and bottom lines drift off the screen half way between the centre and the edge of the screen. On way of dealing with the pin cushioning is to curve the screen. I discussed this with Mark Techer for CAVX and Richard at OzTheatre about 6 to 8 months ago, and with a bit of spare time in the holidays thought I'd give it a go. First work out how much to bend the screen, after much searching of the internet for maths formulaes to work it out (never lose that engineering approach) I fell back to Marks tried and simple method which is simply to use something (in my case a length of stiff paper) to measure and mark the height at the centre of the screen, then move to the edge and move the paper out from the screen until the image from the projector is the same as the distance measured in the middle. In my case the distance out from the screen was 100 mm. So a quick sketch and off to bunnings to buy some supplies. I ended up deciding on using a 140mm width MDF to make a box which would then be attached to the wall. Couple of photos of the construction showing - the raw materials laid out on the floor - frame made up and trial put together on the floor - all painted up (blocks at the ends set to hold the ends of the screen 100mm out from the centre) and test of the curvature using some scraps of timber So the next day into the theatre room and pull everything off the from wall and mount the frame to the wall. Brace the back of the screen (good tip from Mark) as due to the cross sectional shape or profile of the screens frame, the screen will try to pinch in the middle as the pressure is put on the screen frame to force it to curve. I used 20x12x1.4mm aluminimum angle. I drilled a hole through the screen frame at the centre and then used a tek screw to pull the centre of the screen back against the box mounted on the wall. So after all that effort did it work? In short yes I think so. The attached grid pattern shows that almost all of the image is now on the screen, there is a slight drift off in the top left corner but compared to the before shot much better. Measurements of the grid rectangles using a tape measure are 1. width is 296mm at centre and 301mm at either side (1.7% increase) 2.height is 207/208mm at the centre and 210mm top and bottom Issue/lessons learnt/things I'd do different 1. use heavyduty/mor bracing to the back of the screen, even with the bracing that I used the screen still pinces about 5 mm in the middle (note however that this is over a height of 1280mm so relatively minor) and 2. the screen material bows out towards the room in the centre (top to bottom) about 25mm due to the tension from each ends. I might need to look at more tension to the top and bottom and letting the edges go a bit on the left and right ends. 3. I now need to adjust the A-lens again to try and fix up the top left corner 4. the A-lens expansion ratio and the screen ratio are slightly different, on the finished product photo the top and bottom grid lines are right on the edge of the viewable area but the left and right sides still have about 50mm before the grid line hits the screen frame. Not much I can do about that except to overscan the image onto the frame top and bottom 5. It takes a reasonalbe push to curve the screen frame, it doesn't do it under its own weight that is for sure. Anyway alls well to far, I might have a play around over the next couple of weeks and provide any updates. regards Michael

I am looking to get a 16:9 projector screen somewhere around 100" and 110" that needs to be acoustically transparent. It also can't be fixed screen and I am wondering what my realistic options are and hope you can help. I was looking to get a majestic fixed frame screen from ozts but as this is predominately a multi-purpose room first and a home theatre second (as my wife strongly reminded me tonight ) a fixed frame screen that I have to put up and take down is just not going to be practical. Where am I going to put it when it is not up? Anyway this leaves me with motorised screens preferably with tab tension. From my initial research it looks like nothing much can be had for less than about $4000. The options I have seen on the net are from Carson, Elegance, Screen Technics and LP Morgan. Are there any others? Can anyone provide views/opinions on what would be the best choice. Thanks

I've had this screen in my home up until recently when I changed over to a CIH setup for my Sony VW1000. I swear by Stewart's Studiotek ST130 material and still use it with my new screen. It's pretty much idea for most rooms with it's 1.3 gain (batcave aside). I listed it on ebay a week or so ago, but am only attracting typical low-ballers who seem to have no idea of what they are worth from the local distributor new i.e. $4950. The screen and frame are in pristine condition. I had it professional repacked into original Stewart packaging as you will see in the auction:http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/110-16-9-Stewart-Luxus-Deluxe-Screenwall-/321266126529?pt=AU_ProjectorScreens&hash=item4accf40ec1 I may be able to assist with fairly inexpensive, safe shipping. I have started the reserve at a pretty modest $500.
