  1. Hi guys! I'm quite new to sound and studio monitors and all the like, but I'm trying. I bought a pair of Gale Mini Reference Monitors and my end goal is for use w/ my computer. Anyway, it's a 15-100 watt recommended amp rating, and...uh...6 ohms Nominal.. but I'm not sure what that means. Now to get these little UK-born bad boys hooked up to my computer, I think I need a 100 watt amp with USB capabilities. Firstly, am I right? or stupid? Now, I've shopped around and according to JB Hi-fi I need a full on multimedia hi-fi amp, but that's money that nobody wants to spend. I've sourced a little 100 watt amp from amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Pyle-PFA400U-100-Watt-Class-T-Amplifier/dp/B0071HZ5RI ) so I guess I just want to know if this will be the right sort of amp? and if not what do you guys suggest? Thanks so much in advance for any help, it's greatly appreciated
  2. Hi everyone, I'm hoping you can help me out here (and that I've posted this in the right spot). There's an opportunity to buy a Luxman 5L15 integrated amp and a 5C50 pre-amp from the Labrotory Reference Series, both say "customed by Lux..." on the front, I'm not sure if they all say that but the ones I could see on google all do. Anyway, I have no idea what a fair price would be and there aren't many listings to go off on ebay or other places online. From what I can gather a fair price for the amp might be 350-400, and maybe 300 for the pre-amp? Am I way off or is that in the ballpark? I've just turned on the amp and it works, but it definitely needs a clean as the knobs and switches crackle and a channel will drop in and out. The pre-amp can't be tested yet as the power lead has been cut off at the plug. The amp started emitting a weird smell like a burnt resistor or something so we turned it off, it was still running fine when we turned it off. They're both in similar condition, not perfect but pretty good considering their age. Regards, Daniel

  6. Extra Info: Priced for a quick sale, these are $10k new! Purchased these last year & been simply amazed by their refinement & the improvement they made in my system. Sad to say, they’re now just too short for my current setup. This is the reference loudspeaker cable from ETI Eichmann with this topping the 5 models in the range (Q Ref, Q3000, Q100, Q500, Q100). This worked perfectly with my Martin Logan Monolith/ME 850’s. It is a hybrid technology using both pure silver and copper: " The hand-wound 99.99% solid silver ground conductor uses what ETI calls ‘Ground Nulling Circuitry’ (GnC). Keith Eichmann’s research has produced a proprietary Ground Nulling Circuit (GnC™) which actively works to maintain a quiescent zero Voltage state across the ground, protecting the signal conductor from ground induced capacitance and inductance. This facilitates smooth uninterrupted signal flow from one component to another, effectively isolates them and allows them to perform their tasks without interference. With each higher model in the range, the GnC™ grows in size, complexity, and sophistication." There was a review in six moons of the lower model (Q100) in the range (http://6moons.com/audioreviews/eti/1.html "ETI cables present a very black background against which music emerged with ease, clarity and flow. There may be something to this ‘ground nulling circuitry’ biz. My cable collection seems to constantly proliferate so there were plenty of contenders for comparison purposes. The ETI cables shone for their utter transparency and strict neutrality. There were no embellishments nor imbalances that would reveal or expose certain frequency anomalies. Music just flowed unimpeded, unedited and unsoiled.” They have been advertised used when you can get them for $3k in Europe and North America. I am selling these for what I paid. I consider them very good buying at this price & I’ll probably regret selling in the future ... Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.

  12. Further information: This Modulus 3A was fully reconditioned by the manufacturer in 2011. Comes with comprehensive manuals, schematics and original AI box. Current upgraded tubes Russian NOS 6N23P-EB made in Reflektor factory are in very good condition, but I will supply five sonically superior spare tubes - Russian NOS 6N23P made in Voskhod factory. Modulus is well-known for natural sound and outstanding 3D soundstage. Audible Illusions is widely regarded as a reference tube pre-amplifier. Tape output buffer designed by famous John Curl. 120V – requires step-down transformer. I am selling on Stereonet Airlink (made in the UK) balanced power supply/transformer (2 in 1) 230V to 120V. Balanced power supply makes noticeable sonic difference - more detailed and vibrant sound. Audible Illusions designed and crafted in the USA and sold directly by the manufacturer. Current model Modulus 3B cost $5495 USD, plus add some 30% for so called “global” shipping to Australia, insurance, import fees, tax and customs fees (all fees apply to used electronics as well) – total $7143 USD which equals to $9940 AUD. In the Audio Review, there are over 40 users reviews with a average rating of 4.7/ 5 – exceptional. Dick Olsher, The Absolute Sound (2016): “The L3A line preamp [cheaper version without phono section] distills the best attributes of modern tube sound: swift transients, a detailed presentation, and natural yet non-euphonic textures. It is its insistence on the sonic truth that defines it as a true reference line preamp. The L3A’s ability to retrieve the music’s rhythmic drive and drama make it one of the most sonically persuasive line preamps on the market and one of the best I’ve auditioned over the years at any price.” The audiophile guru Arthur Salvatore noted in his list of reference components: "[Modulus] 3 may still be the finest preamplifier with phono available today for the money". Georgehifi, Australian designer of renown “Lightspeed Attenuator”, noted: “The AI 3A is one of the best pre’s I’ve heard”. SPECIFICATIONS Phono section gain: 28dB at 1kHz (MM), 27dB (MC). Line section gain: 30dB. Output impedance: 1.2k ohms (main), 150 ohms (tape). Input impedance: 47k ohms. Frequency response: 2Hz-100kHz within 1dB, measured with a 1:1 probe/100k ohm load. Maybe Modulus 3A has different versions of MCs? Or different location on the board? What is location of MC board in the photo? All I know that this model has outstanding and highly appraised everywhere phono stage with two dedicated tubes. Anyway, thank you for your very valuable input - I removed the reference to John Curl MC. 14. Further information: Looking at EOI at this stage, I have some new speakers on the way, so these may be available to a keen buyer should I be happy with my new ones. These are outstanding reference speakers with the highest level of speed, detail and accuracy. KEF’s reference ranges are impeccably built in England. They have the most incredible rock solid imaging and the most beautiful liquid midrange. They also have a built in super tweeter so music holographically forms and the speakers just disappear. Can audition to serious potential buyers only. They will sell themselves once you hear them, not only do they sound breathtaking, but they also look absolutely beautiful (to most people). I also have the original boxes, but will not ship. Prefer buyer to inspect and see/hear what they are potentially purchasing. I also have the accessories box in the same cherry timber that houses the spikes, feet, jumpers and level. RRP was around $13k and the new ranges equivalent is a ridiculous $25k. 15. Item: VPI HRX Reference Turntable with Clearaudio Da Vinci v2 Cartridge Location: Sydney Price: $10,500 Item Condition: Near Mint Reason for selling: Selling to buy a house! Payment Method: Cash preferred, Paypal OK. Bank Cheque Extra Info: Well this turntable is the ultimate - 12 inch arm - stereophile class A reference table for years and only around 8 months old. I had to get a special SGR stand plate made just to be able to hold the thing! That itself was $1,200 but will sell with the turntable for $1,000 if needed. The cartridge has less than 50 hours on it as I upgraded from the Stradivari only around 2 months ago. My obsession is now complete and now I realise I need to check my priorities! A house would be great to put some Stereo in Turntable is mint - but unlike everything else I have I didn't keep the boxes for this baby. This thing arrived in 7 boxes and it's just too much to store. 24. Further information: Please find for Sale my beautiful DAC from Chord Electronics. It a wonderful piece of Electronic Artwork, with a sound thats rich and sublime. This is a non smoking, pet free home. I'll leave the rest up to CHORD... "Chord Electronics has once again produced the world's most technically advanced DAC. Building on the huge success of the award winning DAC64, the QBD76 now takes D/A conversion to a new level of performance not available in any other product. In addition USB and digital Bluetooth inputs allow you to enjoy very high quality audio playback from anywhere your music happens to be stored. Instead of simply using the best off the shelf DAC chips, Chord actually designed their own using the newest Xilinx field programmable gate arrays. This state-of-the-art development platform provides Chord engineers with a staggering 1,250,000 logic gates with which to design their DAC. This level of capability was undreamt of only a few years ago. By comparison the best DAC chips available today use only 30,000 logic gates. Thus, with over 40 times the development power, Chord engineers were able to control every aspect of their DAC’s design and performance. As a result, the QBD76 is capable of resolving 40dB more data than DACs using the best off the shelf chips. This means the QBD76 can resolve more musical information than any DAC using even the best chips can. This remarkable innovation takes the QBD76 very near the theoretical limit for CD audio, and once again Chord emerges with technology literally years ahead of the competition. Specifications Type: Digital to analog converter (DAC) Harmonic Distortion: < -103dB at 1 kHz 24-bit at 44.1 kHz Signal To Noise ratio: > 120dB Channel Separation: > 125dB at 1kHz Dynamic Range: 122dB Digital Inputs: 2 x 75 Ohm S/PDIF BNC Coax 2 x AES Balanced XLR Input 2 x Plastic fiber optic (TosLink) 1 x USB (B type) 1 x Bluetooth supporting A2DP Stereo Audio RAM Buffer: Off, minimum (1 sec), maximum (4 secs) Phase Switch: Positive or negative output phase Sample Frequencies: 32 kHz to 96 kHz single cable 176.4 kHz and 192 kHz USB cable Maximum Output: 3V (unbalanced), 6V (balanced) Output Impedance: 75 Ohm Dimensions: 33.8cm x 6cm and 14.5cm Chassis Material: Solid aluminum available in silver Weight: 15.4 lbs (7kg)" Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.
