Hi all, I am on a quest for the best preamp solution for my set-up - Leak Stereo 20 / Denafrips Aries+BluesoundNode / Garrard 401 / Minimax Phono/ various carts - (Koetsu and Lyra) with Goodmans Axiom 301 in Sherwood Cabinets. I’ve been through a few Preamps lately, a beautifully rebuilt Leak Stereo Pre, a Khosmo Pre, and the pre -out from my Sugden A21 and Masterclass. As per the story of goldilocks, one is too cool, the other too warm, one too rich, one too coloured. The passive is definitely offering a certain transparency that I haven’t heard before though compared to an active but the active adds some ‘heft’ I’m really interested in trying a TVC and have been lusting after one of the Dave Slagle designed units but its very difficult to trial one given they are made in the US. Other options are similarly far away. Does anyone have a TVC type preamp that they would countenance letting me try in my system in exchange for being part of the experimentation. I suspect it may be a solution from what I’ve read in various posts… but I’ve learnt not to believe all i read and its costly punt.. Thanks

Further Information: For Sale is the excellent Burson 3X Grand Tourer Headphone and Stereo Preamp. I bought this second hand via audioconnection and used this as a preamp connected to my Burson TimeKeeper GT monoblocks, a pair of 300B valve amps, and also my Audeze LCD-X headphones. This is definitely more than a headphone amp, it is a small footprint preamp and excellent headphone amp. I am only selling as I upgraded to the Burson Voyager Preamp in January this year. Note: this is not the late 2023 version of the soloist 3X GT which includes the modular power supply. Also included in the sale price is the optional Burson Super Charger 5A power supply, which was purchased separately from Burson This preamp currently has the Burson v6 Vivid op amps, which could be upgraded to the new Burson v7 Pro vivid or classic op amps that are due for release very soon. I have the original Burson double boxes (branded inner white box for this and can include in either a 3rd outer box or shrink wrap. I believe it is also possible to purchase replacement red coloured buttons and volume knob (for cosmetic looks), but I was happy with the all silver look

Further Information: I bought this preamp to elevate my listening experience in conjunction with a nice Quad power amplifier. By using old Mullard valves, I got a richer and warmer sound. However, I am selling this unit with the standard Chinese tubes. It has some signs of usage, please study the photos.

The Audio Research SP17 preamplifier is great kit and the corner stone of my system until it was replaced by another Audio Research pre. It has provided so much listening pleasure. Purchased new from CAV here in Melbourne and supplied with a new set of Audio Research tubes. This is the model with the phono stage. Virtually unmarked except for the top right corner - see photos. Further Information: A good way to get in to a tube phono preamp for not a crazy amount of money. Had this for a while now and it’s worked brilliantly in my system although like most Little Bears can be susceptible to external noise (hence why I made a solid tube shield). This has sounded exceptional in my system and punches way above its weight. Only noise I’ve had is from EOP on same power loop, but even that is well below normal listening levels. Gives your vinyl a wonderful tube sound and great soundstage. The v10’s come in a clear plastic case which I wasn’t keen on, so this is mounted in this hefty Alu case with various tweaks made internally to accomodate (lifted tube sockets, shielded input cable run down side). Happy to open the preamp up for those that are interested. Also the toroidal transformer has been moved to another chassis with an umbilical to mitigate any potential hum caused by the transformer being in proximity of the tubes and audio circuits. Have Russian tubes in it now and the original Chinese tubes will also come with the preamp. It’s pretty heavy so not really keen on posting but can review if required. Selling to buy some tubes for a new preamp, don’t want to put this in a cupboard to never see the light of day again. Happy to answer any questions. See less

Great phono at this price, even when compared to dedicated MC preamps. The continous variable impedance loading is really great to fine adjust to any MM cartrige and gave me very good entretainment. The working condition is perfect but there is a mark on the top, as showing in the last picture. Further Information: Still on warranty and this is still Bryston’s most up to date and highest ranking pre-amp. Included are the original boxes and manuals etc. Also included are 19 inch face plates in silver. Right now the more popular 17 face plates are installed. No competitor for the price. Further information: I purchased this amazing DAC and Preamp when I had to send my Lampizator Pacific back to Poland to have some work done. It is designed to manage all audio inputs (digital and analogue) and hand off to power amps, but can also be used as a very capable DAC - see Vermeer Audio TWO - Vermeer Audio Like the Lampizator, it comes in a massive wood and aluminium travel case. It has done very little work, is in perfect condition and sounds amazing. It may not be quite as good as the Lampizator, but it is very close. I've spent the past 10 years putting together systems from entry to Reference levels for friends and colleagues, but have decided having three systems in my home is ridiculous, so I'm looking to move the rest of the equipment on.

Equally great results are on tap with all the other phones in my collection; there is nothing that the Taurus can’t drive with aplomb, making it a perfect reference amplifier for those with a large headphone collection (or for those considering expanding their current collection). My other reference phones, the Audeze LCD2s, work equally well with the Taurus, serving up a massive inner-head soundstage, with sound floating all around my head in a pleasantly trippy manner. Really good choice for drive big headphone. Great power and well design balance in & out.

Further Information: Moving on my desktop stack. I was using these to power a pair of Audeze LCD-3 headphones and as a preamp with volume control for my Acoustic Energy AE1 active speakers. Input was from my computer and through a Empirical Audio Synchro-Mesh. These make an excellent pairing for someone wanting a DAC as well as an amp with an analog volume control for their headphones and speakers. They're great as they take up very little desktop real estate. I have the original boxes for both. My preference at the moment is to sell as a pair as they're a fantastic desktop all-in-one, but will split if there's no interest.

The unit is just one week old - available with all original accesories / docs & packing. Further information: This is a great amplifier, it has quite a wide soundstage with a pleasant, slightly warm timbre devoid of any sharpness, harshness or glare. It's a fairly laid back sounding amp while still retaining great microdetail; it also does this without rolling off the edges of the transients too much like some other amps do in order to achieve their warm and laid back sound. The background is incredibly black and lends to the clarity and macrodetail this amp is capable of. If you're a fan of sensitive headphones and IEMs and need a desktop unit to drive them, this is also an awesome amplifier for that and sounds great driving sensitive headphones and IEMs too with absolutely no audible noise floor. As per the pictures - this amplifier is in near perfect condition and will come with the original box and packaging. There is only the tiniest scratch in the back right corner, which you may have difficulty even seeing in the fifth picture of this listing.

Further information: For your consideration is my recently acquired Tortuga LDR300x V3 Active preamp. After all the upgrades and modifications I've done to it it's the second best performing pre I've had the pleasure of running ahead of the DACGEAR LDR Pre Mk.2 and marginally behind my significantly more expensive (around $6k) icOn 4PRO Slagleformer based pre. I originally sourced the Tortuga pre due to its ability to provide additional current drive into two separate power amplifiers for bi-amping so if looking to output to more than one amp this is the unit for you. This unit has 2x selectable outputs which can be output to either individually or both at once, and 3x inputs all controllable from the Apple Remote. The USB on the rear of the unit is for firmware updates. Something which was invaluable as being an early production unit there were a number of issues which were promptly fixed in a later firmware release upon my feedback. It has the following upgrades which are part of the listing which have lifted performance noticeably over stock. In it's stock for the DACGEAR was the more transparent unit: 1. Staccato Osh discrete OPAMP (cost about $200) 2. TeraDak linear power supply (cost about $180) 3. Synergistic Research Purple fuse (cost $320) + spare Aucharm gold/silver nanofilament immersed in mineral oil (for vibration damping) fuse (cost $180 I think?) 4. Pure silver DC umbilical with Oyaide DC plug (cost $150) Please note that a kettle lead is not included as it wouldn't fit into the box when I packed it. Complemented my Rega P3-24 with a Denon DL-304 MC cart really well sonically, with classic Rega styling. Flexible loading options and two-position adjustable gain.
