Further information: Went looking at ET3SE's in classified. One member made a reply with: Precision, metal-film resistors yield low noise performance for greatest clarity. Polypropylene capacitors, used exclusively in the audio circuits and the regulated plate voltage supplies, offer extraordinary temporal accuracy. In fact, the ET3 is built to standards that meet or exceed those of many companies’ “flagship” offerings. Those who wish to take the performance to yet a higher level will be thrilled by the availability of an upgraded “SE” version. The ET3SE boasts CJD Teflon capacitors in critical circuit applications, dozens of upgraded metal foil resistors (including ALL resistors in the stepped attenuator level control), upgraded machined input/output connectors, and even an upgrade AC mains line-cord. That about sums it up perfectly..... Currently living north of Cairns.. Postage from Cairns your add.

Ok, I recently started reading about LDR attenuation and after reading everything I could find online (there's some pretty nasty debate regarding it on some forums) I decided to give one a go. I figured that since I have recently upgraded to an end game level DAC and phono stage that the and LDR based pre could potentially get better performance than my Linear Tube Audio MicroZOTL 3 which is itself a truly excellent active tube pre. I won't go into details of the MZ3 as there's plenty of information out there already. Essentially its a reference level active pre which set me back over $5,800 due to exchange rate, shipping and import fees. I looked at the Stereo Coffee pre initially though couldn't see an easy way to order online and instead came across the DACGEAR LDR Pre Mk2. Feedback on his eBay listings was glowing and some feedback as below: "Both my friend and myself are enjoying the pre very much, you have something very good indeed on your hands. Beautifully built to a VERY HIGH STANDARD, rare to find an even handed and so transparent /neutral preamp, especially at the price you are selling them at. I am waiting as S***** C***** is determined to out do your model having told him about how good your version is. He is sending out a new board with mods. I will make a review of comparison once I have tried that. Thank you for a great product, now all you need is a professional review." Speaking to the seller in Switzerland he was unable to tell me which Stereo Coffee this was compared against though I did find another thread where a user had found an LDR Pre which had beaten the 2019 Stereo Coffee and Chris Daley was in the process of updating the pre to match or better it which has resulted in the 2020 Stereo Coffee Pre. Now which is better I don't know though from everything I'd read it indicated that the DACGEAR is one of the better units out there. After querying the seller I found it uses NSL-32SR2 Light Dependent Resistors, which I believe are the same ones Stereo Coffee uses and better suited to audio use (was reading on DIYAudio). I received it yesterday and not really liking a silver face plate gave it a spray paint, and nicer anodised aluminium volume knob. It's now more to my aesthetic preference. I hooked it up last night and let my system warm up for a half hour (tube sources, tube power amp) before putting anything on. Once I put some music on I was absolutely blown away. The sound is more solid with an incredible sense of pace and rythm I've never noticed in music before. Likewise there's a sense of everything being better integrated, being very natural..... Open sounding as live music tends to be. Imaging is improved and there's far more nuance and detail to everything. Incredibly despite showing poor recordings for what they are, even those sound better. Good recordings on the other hand are simply mind blowing. I don't even have to close my eyes to get the impression of being there. Just spectacular. One thing I nearly got to mention is how much better it sounds at low volume than anything else I've heard. I've always strived for the best possible low volume performance as ordinarily at the volume that things sound great, I get yelled at by my wife to turn things down. Seems with this it now sounds spectacular while being quiet enough. Nice to not get into trouble Thing is, I don't feel I can really review the passive pre..... It's more like it's just letting my source components do their thing, letting music flow through to the power amp in all its glory so it seems more that I'm writing about the sound characteristics of the Abbas Audio gear. Even YouTube video's are improved. Just spectacular. Anyway, just thought I'd post my listening impressions for anyone interested and considering taking the plunge for an LDR pre.

Items: Great Desktop/Small System Kingrex Pre-Amp V3 Kingrex T20U Amplifier and USB DAC Kingrex Linear PSU MKII (matching T20U) All original packaging in good condition. Original power supply and cables for T20U are included (although you'd never go back to this after using the PSU). Location: SYD – Hurlstone Park 2193 Item Condition: Excellent Price: $400 obo (original retail for the lot was over $1.6k) Reason for selling: Used to be set up as a desktop system on my wife's desk while she was working from home, we're down to one desk now and unfortunately no room to set this up currently. Payment Method: Cash on pick-up, PayPal (+3% or as friend) Extra Info: I am the original owner of all the Kingrex gear. T20U and PSU were purchased from Coem Audio here in Oz in mid-late 2012. Pre-Amp was purchased from authorised seller in the UK in 2014. This is an amazing and well-reviewed setup for desktop listening. Smooth, detailed, fast and with awesome mids and imaging. The Pre-Amp is a great piece of gear in its own right, and elevates the whole stack to another level. Very sad to see this go, and definitely prefer to sell as a package. Used to run these with various speakers over the years and they are able to drive even mid-efficient speakers to levels you would not expect from the size/specs. Just don’t try anything that dips into the sub-4Ohm region consistently, they’ll be challenged …. ? On the desk they were set up with a pair of John Blue JB3s, which was an amazing match for near field listening. Can be inspected/tested at my place in Hurlstone Park, and am happy to post insured at buyer’s cost as all original packaging is available. Can also drop off within Sydney Metro area if paid at or near the asking price prior. 6moons review for PreAmp and T20U with PSU: http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/kingrex2/u.html Happy to answer any questions here or shoot me a PM. Item: Cyrus Pre XP Location: Melbourne 3068 Price: $650 Item Condition: Good condition and including the remote control as pictured Reason for selling: Not being used and getting ready for the next upgrade Payment Method: Pickup - Cash and Paypal (buyer pays fees) Extra Info: Offered for sale is a Cyrus Pre XP preamplifier. It has been faultless during its time with me and I have been hanging on to it for too long. The volume control does not use a pot so when at a low volume setting the balance remains even between left and right - also a benefit when using the built in headphone stage. Other features include being able to name (from a fixed list) each input and configure a fixed level AV passthrough for those integrating their 2-channel and theater rig. The zone 2 output can also track any of the inputs separate to what you are listening to and of course it has great synergy with Cyrus amplifiers. The unit also supports the addition of a Cyrus PSX-R power supply to improve performance. Of note on this unit is whilst I call it a Pre XP it has a Pre xp d sticker on the back. I understand the difference is they are the same but one has a built in DAC. I am not sure why it is like this I purchased it this way. Either it never had the inbuilt DAC or it has been removed at some stage. Inputs – 6 analogue Outputs – Zone 2, preamp out, headphone Questions welcome, Cheers, Nick Pictures:

Item: Primare SP33 Location: 3782 VIC Price: $1.900 plus shipping Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Chasing butterflies. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal (Friend) . Extra Info: Item can be shipped in original packaging. Extra Info: Item can be auditioned. This Pre Processor doesn’t come with a lot of bells and whistles, but I prefer not to waste money spend in area’s that don’t improve things if the basics aren’t right. And that is producing excellent audio. Its build quality is superb and has all the connections you probably going to need. I decided to put it up for sale to raise funds before I start chasing butterflies, or unicorns. Pictures:

Item: PrimaLuna Dialogue Premium Pre-Amplifier Location: 3782 VIC Price: $2.600 plus shipping Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Chasing butterflies. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal (Friend) . Extra Info: Item can be shipped in original packaging. Extra Info: Item can be auditioned. This amp has been my reference for audio, but is hardly being used since I mostly watch movies or play games in my home theater room. I kept it around because it is such a great performer, but it deserves a whole lot more use than what I am giving it. Because of this I have decided to chase butterflies in pursuit of the same kind of performance in multichannel audio and looking for a new home and free up some funds. Pictures:

I know sometimes it sounds like a bit of a cliché when people say "the picture does not do it justice" but in this case it is true. The system looks pretty good in the picture but the gloss and colour of the timber just does not come across. The Redgum stack looks 5 times better IRL. I wanted to start this review with a little background info since there isn't that much info out there regarding Redgum components (and I did a lot of googling!). For instance, I am willing to bet that while you can get a fair amount of info from the Redgum website about their choice of volume control (individual channel knobs or single knob) but did you know that you can adjust balance from the remote, and then reset the balance to 50/50 at the touch of a button? What about the fact that there is an info sheet stuck to the base of each piece of Redgum gear that includes not only the model number and year but also the name of the buyer and the details of any personal modifications they requested? So if you're buying second hand each piece of gear tells a story. My RGCD5ENR for instance was initially purchased by Tony Wright of Sydney and there is a note that he planned to remove the front panel prior to use. Now I don't know Tony, and I guess I'm not likely to, but having a name to assign to the player makes things a bit more personal. (I can deduce one or two things about Tony though, the first is that he obviously likes his music and doesn't mind paying for good gear, the second is that he is no fool, he has vibration dampened the case with two rows of blutak stuck to the underside of the top panel, cheap and effective, very nice!) I have said in the past that the design of the Redgum cd players is a little odd, using a cd rom as a spinner is pretty interesting cosmetically, philosophically and practically. I have to admit cosmetically it does make the player look a bit commonplace, it is a definite let down after that gorgeous timber faceplate. Philosophically it makes me wonder just how seriously I should take all the talk of other manufacturers regarding mechanism stability, cd clamps and custom error correction techniques when this player sounds damn good without any of the above. Practically I love the idea of a cheap and easily replaced mechanism, but the lack of a screen telling you what is happening is a bit of a bugger which is why I use my Consonance cd120 as a transport and the RGCD5ENR as a DAC. Another thing I wanted to mention, the RG175 mono-blocks have their AC power socket very close to their external heat sink so there is not enough room to use certain types of power cords. If your power cord has a thick, round plastic end just behind the three pin plug (as many expensive power cords do) then the heat sink renders it unusable. It isn't a big thing but it was certainly something I noticed as I couldn't use my custom power cords. I believe the newer model (since mine are 2007 vintage) has the heat sink mounted underneath so this is unlikely to be a concern. And last but not least, Redgum uses Philips remote codes, (as do Consonance and Myryad and many others) so I only need one remote even if I switch cd players. Yeah, I know it means nothing to most people out there but for me it leaves more room on the armrest for cd cases and chocolate wrappers and I really appreciate that. I'll get into the Pre and monoblock functionality next, and I'll put up a pic of that info sheet I mentioned. Edit: And here it is.

Just putting an idea out here to see if it generates any interest. I'm currently very light on disposable income but I seem to have a few components that are additional to my immediate needs so I was wondering if anyone else was in the same boat and willing to swap (either on a temporary or permanent basis) something with me to keep the hobby interesting. Obviously discussions should take place and pictures of the pieces of gear involved should be taken and exchanged prior to any actual deals being entered into, etc, etc... but just for now does anyone have any interest to express in any of the following components, and, hopefully, anything interesting (and by interesting I don't just mean integrated amps ) to swap for them. One Burson PRE-160 One Burson PP-160 One Thule Spirit 100 cd player One Exposure Classic 21 preamp (line level only) One Exposure Classic 28 power amp (dual mono) Two Perreaux Silhouette SX60 monoblocks (tiny little 60wpc monoblocks) One Cambridge Audio Azure 550T AM/FM tuner One Consonance C1 Integrated amp One Myryad MI120 integrated amp And last but not least One QLS QA-100 Power DAC/Integrated amp (on loan) I'm open to selling any of the above in the old fashioned way as well (ie for cash) but since I've already tried that on most of them I thought I'd give this idea a go. Cheers, and a happy new year to all and sundry!
