  1. Hi all, I’m wondering if I could ask you couple of questions as an owner of a RB 1090. I’ve recently bought an RB1090 and was working fine at the sellers house. I took the unit home and it powered fine the first time but it starts to trip the circuit breaker after that. I’ve tried plugging directly to the wall with most electronics off and still have the same tripping problem. Did you encounter similar issues of have you used a power filter/conditioner with your power amp? i have been reading that the initial start up of the unit can spike 7 times the power it’s drawing. Perhaps there’s a slow-start issue with the amp? Couple of things that could be an issue: 1) Rotel - internals on the start up sequence 2) Circuit breaker is too sensitive. Tripping a few times maybe needs replacement? 3) Need to upgrade the circuit to a dedicated line? I’m hoping it’s either 1 or 2 but hoping some of you can share some experience.
  2. I am after amp suggestions to run my Troels Gravesen DTQWT mkQlll . http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/DTQWT-mkIII.htm. These are listed at 94db and 4ohm so power should not be an issue. I am thinking solid state with a budget somewhere around 5 - 8k. I am presently running chord cutest to PrimaLuna Prologue pre and Cawsey 15 class mono blocks. I have also had a PrimaLuna Prologue power amp in the setup. - General listing volume around 70db - Room size 6m x 10m Cameron
  3. Hello everyone Does anyone have experience with ATI technologies AT 500NC series amplifiers? I have not seen any proper reviews of these. They seem very good on paper. AT543 NC class D amp pumps out 900W / channel at 4 ohms. Thanks .
  4. Hello All, I'm having a bit of a clean-out and have come to the point where I have decided to move quite a bit of stuff along. Because I've spent quite a lot of time evaluating equipment against the things I build, eventually the time comes to clear things, that time is now.....SO does anyone have opinions to offer on the worth of the Alchemist Pre-Power combination? I've had it for enough years that I have NO idea as to its value so rather than blindly advertise, it seems sensible to me to ask for the collective wisdom that I'm certain is out there: Best Regards to All Alchemist Forseti APD21A pre " " APD20A power
  5. Hey all, How often should the Power Amp be serviced? My Elektra Theatron 7 was purchased from someone here in this forum working great but I'm thinking it's probably due for a service? Keen to know if someone has done a service with Arthur before and how much it'll cost
  6. Hey guys, Emotive announced the new XPA Gen 3 power amps which are modular, looks pretty damn cool. This allows the buyer to upgrade the amp as their system grow over the years. What do you guys think? http://emotiva.com/products/amplifiers/xpa-gen3

  8. Further information: Fantastic amp. Bought new last year. I've probably used it for less than 200 hours before deciding to go for a tube amp instead. 9. Item: NAP 180 Location: Perth, Western Suburbs Price: $1200 Item Condition: very good Reason for selling: Upgraded Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal. Can post but v heavy. Extra Info: Imported by me from the UK a number of years ago, this is a beautiful example of the Naim olive series NAP180 power amp. Serviced locally in 2016. 60W with ability to power a naim preamp such as the NAC82 (also selling one of these). Box is crisp and original. Has original foam inserts, cardboard and instruction manual. See other posts for sale of Preamp (NAC82), headphone amp (Headline 2), Power supply (Teddycap Plus and NAPSC), Cables (NACA5) = Preference for sale as lot. Pictures:
  10. Further information: Brilliant 99/909 pre and power combo, just check the 5 star reviews when released. Classic quad mid range quality and a warm but not overly so sound. The 909 is absolutely mint. I bought this new from simply hifi in Perth. No boxes but comes with the manuals. The 909 has ample power for just about any speaker. Solid build, feels like a billet. The 99 comes with remote, I am not the original owner having purchased from another member. The majority of the character comes from the pre. Plenty of inputs and the quad style tone tilt as well. The phono is nice and quiet. It supports MM and MC and has adjustable gain for both. Very versatile and equally well made. Some marks on top as per photos. Can ship but it would not be light. The quad link cable is included. Photos:
  11. Item:Parasound Halo A52 Power amp Location:Melbourne,Victoria Price:$1700 (firm) $1500 Item Condition:9/10 Reason for selling: Because I don't know when to quit Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info The Halo series from Parasound has some what of cult status, being designed by the legendary John Curl. This amp puts out 30 amps of current which gives it performance beyound it power rating. I dare you to find a better built, better featured and better sounding 5 channel amp for this price (hence I'm firm at $1700) This is a beautifully warm and organic sounding amplifier. I bought it because it was the only amp that satisfied me musically while still providing 5 channels for surround sound. I had to think long and hard before I offered it for sale. It is great for low impedance or hard to drive speakers like PMC, ATC and Dynaudio which I have it running now. I have original box but this Amp is big and heavy so suggest local pick-up unless your willing to cover cost of shipping. I'll post some HQ pics soon
  12. Further information: Amp has been upgraded to TUNG-SOL KT120 Power tubes exact hours unknown,I bought this as a package a couple oh years ago with the Premium Preamplifier. The power amplifier was used briefly for around 240 hours and works flawlessly. There is one small blemish on the face plate but otherwise in perfect condition. I am happy to audition the amplifier to serious buyers in Ivanhoe. PrimaLuna® ProLogue PremiumEL34/KT88 Switch The ProLogue Premium Stereo Amplifiers—as well as the Premium Integrated and Mono amplifiers—come with an EL34/KT88 bias switch. This means that by the flip of a switch you can choose the optimum bias setting for EL34s or KT88s. No hassle with screwdrivers, no messing around with meters etc. If you swap tubes, simply flip the switch for optimum bias! And should you use the “wrong” bias setting for the tubes in use, don’t worry. It just means you did not choose the “optimum” bias setting as decided by the PrimaLuna design team. Some PrimaLuna owners even like to “play” with this switch to see what is the optimum bias setting for their circumstances and some go even further and play with this switch while having a mix of EL34 and KT88 within one channel. All is possible due to the PrimaLuna Adaptive AutoBias Circuit. . Power Amp can operate in Stereo or Mono at the flip of a switch This PrimaLuna ProLogue Premium Stereo Amplifier features: Hand-made construction with the finest point-to-point wiring, using workmanship that is equal to orbetter than any product you can buy at any price. A heavy-gauge, fully-vented steel chassis with a five coat finish. Each coat is hand-rubbed andpolished. Premium parts that include a toroidal transformer for power supply; custom designed -inconjunction with one of the most prestigious transformer designers in the USA- encapsulated output transformers the quality of which fits nicely between standard ProLogue and DiaLoguetransformers; wide bandwidth for great bass and extended highs; ceramic tube sockets; ALPS volume control; Nichicon and Solen capacitors; superfast Philips-diode-circuitry; gold-platedheavy duty WBT style speaker terminals (all speaker connectors are solid shaft, without hole, forbetter conductance, better sound and higher reliability); gold-plated panel mounted input jacks. SoftStartTM circuit for extended life of sensitive components, plus a reduced chance of tube failurefrom thermal shock. A new generation Adaptive AutoBiasTM exclusive to PrimaLuna. This circuit monitors and smoothlyadjusts bias constantly and instantly, reducing maintenance and increasing performance due to the dramatic reduction in distortion. It comes with a new extensive output stage protection circuitry with +B relay to protect output transformers, resistors and high voltage power supply in case a tube fails. In all ProLogue Premium Amplifier models the new generation Adaptive Auto BiasBoard comes with our new BTITM circuit. BTITM stands for Bad Tube Indication (by LEDs), makingtube-life again a bit easier. The ProLogue Premium Stereo Amplifiers as well as the Integrated and Mono amplifiers come with an EL34/KT88 bias switch. This means that with the flip of a switch you can choose for the optimum bias setting for EL34 type of tubes or KT88 type of tubes. No hassle with screwdrivers,no messing around with meters etc. Just switch tubes, switch bias! No more 12AX7 tubes in the ProLogue Premium range of products. Instead of a 12AX7/12AU7 combination in each channel, we use a double 12AU7 combination. Lower distortion levels, higherlevel of sound quality. Distortion levels in the first stage have dropped with a factor of 5 at low levels to at least 20 at higher levels, above 1V. 14. Item:1-Micrex R-1 Preamp and two Micrex P-1 Power amplifiersLocation:Darwin NTPrice:$4000.00 ONOItem Condition:Very goodReason for selling:Owner has passed away, wife does not want themPayment Method: Cash, Paypal, COD OnlyExtra Info: Micrex P-1 Valve-Mosfet Hybrid This unusual hybrid mosfet-valve triode amplifier is a creation by Mick Maloney of Supratek fame. The Micrex brand is now owned by Sonique Audio of South Australia. These amps were released to rave reviews around 1994, and targeted the Australasian market. They captured everyone's imagination at the time with their beautiful styling and good sound. The Micrex P-1 is a hybrid design delivering 75w/ch from two pairs of nice sounding Hitachi mosfets driven by EL34 valves in triode mode. The amp is robustly constructed and is designed to be stable into most speaker loads, circuitry is simple and made to last a lifetime. The Micrex sounds surprisingly nice, an excellent marriage of tube and solid state virtues. While not totally tubey sounding, it does hint at valve sweetness and harmonics with the added advantage of excellent s.s drive and composure. The Micrex has plenty of clarity, good separation and images well. It has no trouble driving Apogee Stages or my ESL-3 electrostatic speakers (although, the heat sinks do get quite warm on these difficult speakers). Pictures:

  17. Item: First Watt F6 Class A power-amp & First Watt Class A Bride of Zen Pre-amplifier. Location: Brisbane Northside Price: SOLD Item Condition: F6 is in pretty good nick. Perhaps 9/10 - some minor marks on front panel. Preamp has no more than a few hundred hours use. Some minor scuffs on top plate approx 8/10 Reason for selling: Simplifying my system and my life. Payment Method: Pickup preferred (cash) but can post at cost (Paypal - pay as a friend or add 5% if not) Extra Info: Some background. Nelson Pass set up First Watt as a side "hobby" to fulfil his desire to experiment with unusual typologies. His thoughts, observations and experiments can be read about in great detail at http://www.firstwatt.com/f6.html The poweramp: The F6 is the logical successor to the F5. The design uses an auto-transformer per channel and unusually for Nelson Pass, feedback though not global feedback (no NP design has global feedback TTBOMK). The design is tuned to create 2nd order distortion with a some 3rd order for a bit of bite. Higher order distortion has been tuned out. Power is conservatively rated at 25 watts RMS into 8ohms and rises to 50 watts RMS into 4ohms. I believe it can handle lower impedances than this. As with a lot of Class A designs, the power rating is a bit misleading as they can handle much higher transient spikes than the low RMS might suggest. Quality components used throughout - was put together by @Green Wagon for @Full Range 6moons have written several incomprehensible reviews on the F6 - be prepared to commit yourself to a few hours and a lot of head scratching with those ones. This review at least gives you a clear picture of the reviewers thoughts -https://newrecordday.com/first-watt-f6-power-amplifier/ - this is a very relaxing amplifier that sounds quite tube-like at least in terms of musicality though not in terms of adding euphonics. A great combination. I have them set up with my PDX DAC at the office so I could do an audition for anyone genuinely interested. Build thread is here - http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/pass-labs/278695-upgrade-f5-f6.html And the sound? Well I am not going to claim that this is some giant killer. In my system with a PDX DAC and a variety of pre-amps it gives me a smooth and detailed presentation with oodles of bass. Not super fast, nor super tight bass nor super detailed in absolute terms but it is an amplifier that you will find yourself listening to for hours whether from a digital or analogue source. I know I have. The preamp:I bought the BOZ off Y B a few months ago to use with my Pass Labs F6 clone. The volume pot that was on this unit had a little bit of play at really low volumes. Since replacing the pot with a really nice TKD unit, the issue has gone and detail has gone up considerably - put in by @Green Wagon. Mosfets feed the outputs and provide a large degree of gain - perfect if you are struggling to get a power amp' to sufficient volumes. Audiophile capacitors. Very sweet sound but without any attempt at artificial smoothing. Sound is surprisingly full / fat but with excellent detail. Will give a nice 2nd order sweetness to solid state gear without adding any colourations to the sound. 4 inputs, single stereo outputs. No thump-on. Here is Mr Pass' take on the amplifier" Subjective Performance / Conclusion "It is in this spot that the author elucidates the sonic astonishment which awaits the amateur upon completion of the project. I will not disappoint you. It sounds marvellous. Really. No Kidding" - Nelson Pass
  18. Item: Simaudio Moon Neo 350p and 330a - Power amp and Preamp pair Location: Richmond, Victoria Price: $6000 (latest 350p is $6399 and 330a $5799) Item Condition: excellent (just under 2 years old) Reason for selling: Looking to try something different (yes, valves again just in time for winter) Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, could ship as i have the original boxes Extra Info: These were purchased new from previous distributor before Addicted to Audio (Busisoft AV) took over. 350p preamp is the 2nd version D2p with a built in DACUSB, Optical, Coax (192/24 Burr Brown, no DSD on this version). The USB is capable of full 24/192 without a driver from MacOS (not certain about windows This one also has a basic internal phono stage (that I have not used) The phono module accommodates moving-magnet or moving-coil cartridges, and can be adjusted for gain (40 or 60dB), capacitance (0 or 100pF), and impedance (100 or 47k ohms). I understand the lid must be popped to change those settings. 330A power amp - is 125Wpc into 8 ohms or 250Wpc into 4 ohms. Or two of them can be used in bridged mono, each producing 400W into 8 ohms. I can include some balanced cables for connecting the two amps together Pictures:

  20. Item: Primare A34.2 Stereo Power Amp (Bridgeable) Location: NSW 2257 Price: $1,050 Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: See Below Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: I purchased this from “overjp” in December last year – in fact I have recycled his original pic’s. This really is a very nice stereo power amp putting out 150W / channel into 8 ohms - more than enough, really. However, being a bit “power hungry” it was my intention to find a 2nd (black) A34.2 and use them as bridged mono-blocks. Astoundingly, in that config a single A34.2 will push out over 500W / channel into 8 ohms!! That said, I got a bit impatient, and I found a set of 350W / channel Class D’s at a decent price, so this unit is now surplus. Reselling it for what I paid a few months back – a VERY reasonable $1,050. (For comparison, there is a Silver demo A34.2 on Gumtree now for $2,199! ) Excellent online reviews. Takes both balanced and RCA inputs. Cosmetically perfect unit, as far as I can see. Comes with original box, and all extras – bridging cable, CD instructions, manual, etc. Happy to post if you meet the cost & insurance. OR……pickup from 2257 Central Coast, NSW - or 2071 Killara. 21. Item: NuForce Ref 9 Ver 3 SE Power Amps Location: Belgrave, Melbourne Price: $2,000 Item Condition: As New Reason for selling: NLR due to upgrade Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: I purchased these power amplifiers one year ago from a dealer in N.SW. who had closed up his business. I did not get to use them until July of this year due to a home renovation and overseas travel. It is recommended that they are run in for 70 hours and that is all the use that they have had. They are for all intents and purposes brand new. They sound fabulous and I believe they are a bargain at this price. Audition at my home in Belgrave is welcome. I am happy to ship at purchasers expense. The cost would be in the region of $140.00, or less, depending on location, including insurance. Item: McIntosh MC7300 Location: Sydney Price: $4,900 Item Condition: Excellent Reason for selling: Downsizing Payment Method: Pickup - Cash Extra Info: This amp has served me well for some years and I'll be sad to see it go . Probably the most reliable amp I've ever owned. The only thing that has ever failed on it are the light bulbs behind the faceplate (which is a thing on these older Macs) which does not affect operation in any way. It has never skipped a beat. I had the lightbulbs changed recently so also had it serviced while it was in. I have included a pic of all the caps that were replaced. Also still have 12 new bulbs for when the time comes. Cosmetically is in very good condition with a few minor blemishes and functionally sounds as good as the day I got it. Also have original manual in excellent condition. You can drive almost any speaker with this amp. This amp has been well looked after and is guaranteed to put smiles on faces for years to come Form Stereo power amplifier Output Stereo: 300W+300W (a sinusoidal consecutive output, load-impedance 2/4/8ohm) Mono-bridge: 600W (a sinusoidal consecutive output, load-impedance 4/8/16ohm) Mono-parallel: 600W (a sinusoidal consecutive output, load-impedance 1/2/4ohm) Output load impedance Stereo: 2 ohm, 4ohm, 8ohm Mono-bridge: 4/8/16ohm Mono-parallel: 1/2/4ohm Output frequency band 20Hz - 20kHz THD Stereo: 0.005% or less (at the time of 20Hz - 20kHz, 250mW-300W, and both channel drive) Monophonic recording: 0.005% or less (at the time of 20Hz - 20kHz, 250mW-600W, and both channel drive) Cross modulation distortion (at the time of 20Hz - 20kHz, and both channel drive) Stereo: 0.005% or less (a one side channel and less than peek 300W) Monophonic recording: 0.005% or less (it is attached to a one side channel and is less than peek 600W) Frequency band (at the time of 1W output) 20Hz - 20kHz, and +0 -0.25 dB 10Hz - 100kHz, and +0 -3.0 dB SN ratio 105dB or less (at the time of an Output power A Wei Ted) Dynamic head room 1.9dB(IHF) Dumping factor 40 or more Input impedance 20kohms (unbalance) 40kohms (equilibrium) Input sensitivity 2.5V and 1.4V switching Power guarding It is less than THD2% to over-drive 14dB at 1kHz. 25. Item: Adcom GFA 545 power amp + B& K Components PT3 series 2 preamp Location: Melbourne South Eastern Suburb Price: Adcom power amp $200 / B & K preamp $250. Both items are 120v and require a step down transformer. Will throw in a Voltron ST - 2000 step down transformer for free if both items are picked up together. Item Condition: Great condition for their age. Some light scratches on the top lid of the power amp + light touch up on the face plate as seen in the pictures. The preamp is pretty clean. Reason for selling: No longer being used Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Both of these Components were shipped from the US and hence 120V. As stated above, will throw in a step down transformer for free if both items are picked up together. The Adcom was my first truly serious amplifier and did never want to part with it. It has been replaced with a tubed power amplifier and the Adcom has sat idle for over a year. I did not want to part with it but “She who must be obeyed” must be obeyed!! It puts out 100w per channel @ 8 ohms, runs cucumber cool and does not break a sweat. Does its job beautifully while sitting in a corner without drawing any attention to itself. The internals look untouched and clean. Weighs in at a tad bit over 9kg. The B&K is a tuner preamp, has a full range pre out and also a high pass + mono sub out. This is handy if you want to Bi-amp your speakers. The unit comes with a remote and copy of the instructions manual. The unit is pretty solid and weighs 5kg. Both the units are 120V and if bought together will come with a Voltron ST - 2000, 240v to 110v step down transformer. While I would prefer cash and pick up so that the units can be checked / listened to, I can help with shipping for outstation buyers. Packing and shipping will of course be at the buyers cost and risk. Photos: Advertisements without photos of the actual item will not be approved.
