  1. I'm planning on having a musical start to the new year. Not sure I've got the time for another review thread right now, but what the hell. I'll just start it and see what happens when. I'm hoping the 90's were a good time for Onkyo. I've heard some of the later models and while I thought the 9555 was quite good sounding I thought it was built a bit on the light side, lots of chassis flex to that amp. And the 9070 I didn't like at all, no life to it, just dull and dark and sort of blunt. So, I'm hoping these earlier Onkyo models were a bit more musical. We'll see.
  2. Hi Guys, I'm either getting an Onkyo TX-RZ710 or a TX-NR555 next week and I have a couple wireless speaker questions. I know the RZ is a class above, but i've got a 2nd hand option for the same price (both $650). I notice the TX-NR555 doesn't have rear speakers preouts... Does that mean I'm out of luck if I want any form of wireless rears? (My new house can't have cords going from front to back). I know both support Onkyo NCP-302 FireConnect Wireless Speakers... Is there anyway to link these to the receiver and use 302's as my rears in a 5.1 setup? that would be awesome, but I somehow doubt it. Otherwise, is there another wireless speaker option that I could use in conjunction with either Onkyo amp that you would recommend? Thank you, any help would be great!
  3. Goodaye all Scored a pair on Onkyo 5C speakers today. What information l can find say the grills come off, but l'll be stuffed if l can shift them. Anybody know for sure? What year also? 30w into 8ohm 2 way. Sound nice, little bassy for me, so might try some poly caps in the crossover's. Grills are perfect but a few marks in the cabinets. regards Bruce
  4. Have to choose one of these turntables to keep. Curious as to which one others would choose, and which cartridge would be a good match for the Luxman? 1. Luxman PD264, mechanically great. Needs new cartridge to replace original cart with tired stylus. 2. Onkyo CP-5000a (circa 1978), recently serviced and fitted with new Audio Technica AT95 cart. Perfect working order. TBH leaning heavily towards the Luxman, but seeking suggestions for a good cartridge match to get the most out of the turntable. Unfortunately keeping both is not an option. Thanks
  5. Howdy all, I am presently planning a new system build which will probably take a while to take shape into a finalised list and most likely longer again to track down the components. On the amplification side of things I am leaning towards vintage however this isn't set in stone, the short list so far are the following control/power amp combinations: - Sansui BA-F1 and CA-F1 - Sansui BA-2000 and CA-2000 - Onkyo M-504 and C-304 I suppose the main reason for this post is to find out a couple of things from the experience of others on the forum. What sort of price range should I be expecting, how difficult are they going to be to track down at the right price, and are there other considerations I should have on my list? Also is there anything specific I should look out for/avoid with the above models? In addition I suppose the question that I possibly don't want to know the answer to is would I be better off spending the money on newer equipment instead? Given the time frame is not set in stone, the budget is also relatively flexible I have set aside a hifi fund that will serve only for that purpose so if something is a jump pricewise on these I would still consider it if it means I have to wait a little longer to purchase. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Cheers, Tex Edit: Wasn't sure weather to post there here or Beginner Advice, please feel free to move it if it is more appropriate there.
  6. Hi everyone This is my first post I have read a lot of other posts and reviews, reading opinions on various avr choices. It has gotten to a point where I would like to get an opinion on my setup My current set up is 7.2 I am currently using pre/pro Onkyo pr sc 5009 with Onky 5501a 9ch amp. Speakers are Jamo D450 (biamped) and D4centre. Rears and surrounds are Klipsch rp 250s. Subwoofers 2x svs sb2000pro. I am only watching movies/shows. Watching through Mitsubishi HC9000D projector - which is a 1080p 3D projector - still looks good Generally I am very happy with the setup, occasionally I feel I would like more from my centre speaker. I am going through my 8 year itch on the Onkyo and I was hoping someone might help scratch it. So the question is, is it worth updating the processor and if so, what would be the best options. I have looked at the Anthem avm70, Marantz av7706/8805 and Denon av8500. I look forward to some advice and opinions Thanks Michael
  7. Anyone listened to the new Onkyo tx-rz1100? Any good?
  8. Hi, Newbie here that would appreciate any feedback. I have a Onkyo TX-DS575x AV receiver connected to a set of Richter Wizards MK1 as front speakers in a 7m x 6m cinema room lined with heavy drapes. My other speakers are CAVs including a 100w subbie. Recently I've found that even pumping up the Onkyo to max volume, its still not loud enough for me in some cases (no I'm not partially deaf - yet). I mainly listen to music DVDs / CDs / TV shows in surround sound rather than thunderous movies. Now even though the Onkyo is quoted as 100watts RMS, I'm wondering: - do I need to upgrade my AV amp to a higher power? - do I need to change my brand of amp to better suit the Wizards? - do I need to upgrade my front speakers? Thanks heaps for any advise...
  9. I have been lucky with road side hifi gear I have picked-up. First there was a Sanyo TT. Required a little work, new belt, cart and head shell but works well. A CD player and recently an Onkyo old school, 1980s FM\AM tuner. The power cord and RCA cable was cutaway and it had spent a few days in pouring rain. A $6 three pin power cord and some heavy duty gold plated RCAs was all that was needed to get this analogue relic going. And does it go? Great sound, good bass, no hiss (I have a good FM aerial). A vernier at the front is lit and the pointer PLUS, a signal strength bar LEDs FM\AM and a stereo LED. Love it and best, for free!
  10. Hi I just picked up a pair of Onkyo SC 950 speakers with blown mid range drivers and possibly 1 tweeter gone too, haven't opened up to check wiring yet. I'm after advice on where to get new drivers from, and any upgrade advice if anyone knows these speakers at all. Thank you for your time Cheers Chris
  11. Had an Onkyo A-8500 integrated amplifier for a while now. Bought a multimeter yesterday to test my Sony power amp http://www.stereo.net.au/forums/index.php/topic/107489-sony-ta-n330es-power-amp-yet-another-do-i-need-a-pre-amp-thread/ Now want to test the idle current on the Onkyo. Service manual states: I have found the following on the board: I don't know what VCT, E, or IID mean. How exactly do I test the voltage at test point VCTIID with a multimeter? Thanks!
  12. I have an Onkyo 875 and was hoping to upgrade to a Dolby Atmos pre-amp. If I get a Dolby Atmos pre-amp, can I then use the Onkyo 875 as the Power Amp to power the speakers but not do any of the processing? This way I can save a few dollars until I am ready to purchase a proper Power Amp?

  19. Item: Onkyo DX-C110 Location: Melbourne, SE Suburbs Price: $10 ONO Item Condition: OK-ish see notes below Reason for selling: Surplus Payment Method: Pickup - Cash or exchange Extra Info: This beautiful piece of CD playing history originally purchased as part of my first hifi system from the long gone Acoustic Foundry on King William Rd in Hyde Park Adelaide. It formed a nice little team with an ME-240 amp and Krix Impax speakers (both of which are still in daily use at my work). The unit still works. It plays cd's as it should. However the tray doesn't eject. You have to pull it out. The carousel still turns and everything else seems to be spinning. I suspect that a belt has broken or slipped whilst sitting unattended for many years. Will suit a tinkerer/repairer or someone who wants to strip it for parts (sniff...). It hasn't seen any work for many years so as part of my extended clean out it needs to go. Willing to accept, a bitcoin, $100, a bottle of red, a kind word, whatever really. Pictures:
  20. Further information: Not working - comes as is.... Bought this years ago for parts as I have a fully working unit, but I'm never going to use it so out it goes as a 'project'... The last image is obviously a stock photo. These amps really pack a punch. https://www.hifiengine.com/manual_library/onkyo/a-25.shtml Price is firm Collect from Beaumaris, Vic 3193. 22. Further information: Onkyo stereo amplifier in good condition. One owner only. 23. Item: Onkyo TX NR905 AV ReceiverLocation: Melbourne - Depending on the price, can deliver to Melbourne suburbs.Price: $400 NegotiableItem Condition: ExcellentReason for selling: Have upgradedPayment Method: Pickup/Delivery - CashExtra Info: This was purchased from Eastwood Hifi in 2009. Excellent choice for speakers that will need a lot of power. Never missed a beat. Looks brand new. Reviews:http://www.whathifi.com/onkyo/tx-nr905/review http://www.techradar.com/reviews/audio-visual/hi-fi-and-audio/receivers/onkyo-tx-nr905-320574/review
  24. Item: Onkyo TX-SR875 A/V Receiver Location: Sydney (Sutherland Shire Area) Price: $500 negotiable OR trade for a decent active sub Item Condition: Amp itself = good. Remote = OK Reason for selling: Looking for a change Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: This was THE amp to have back in its day, cost me close to $3k if I remember right. Only issue I ever had (and got fixed under warranty) was the front display died, apparently there was a resistor that commonly died, but ever since I got that fixed, it hasn't missed a beat. It is a BEAST of an amp, weighs ~ 25kg, due to the huge amp section. Some of the remote buttons were getting a bit sticky/unresponsive, could probably do with some contact cleaner (I have been using a universal remote the last few years). Will throw in a Harmony 515 universal remote that can fully control the amp, if the price negotiated for the amp is fair. As you probably know, the remote accepts macros (to turn on/off several components at once) and also has remote codes to control the majority of other components (e.g. TV, BD player etc.). Comes with power cable, set up mic and manuals pictured. Couldn't find the AM/FM antennas, but they're available cheap off ebay.
