  1. So happy I've managed to save these 2 glorious old decks. Usual things like belts and idler, service mech, new tape lamp, Even power supply issues, capacitors gone, due to heat. I bought a complete Nak system 7 s/h back in the mid 90's Still sings today! Who else is a fan? Cheers from humid Brisbane
  2. Hi guys, Please be gentle with me! I'm unsure as to where to post this, as I'm seeking some advice as to the value of some 70's/80's hifi components that my father-in-law has asked me to help him sell. EDIT - I'VE DONE A DEAL WITH MY FATHER-IN-LAW AND THE GEAR IS NOW OFFICIALLY MINE I've searched that auction site, Gumtree and a number of forums' sales areas. The values vary a lot, and several of the components I can only find very limited listings for. I have heaps of photos, videos, etc. I inspected each component yesterday to see how they worked, however I'm no expert. The items cost quite a lot of money originally, and the deck and tonearm in particular seem to be highly sought-after. Thankyou in advance!
  3. Hi folks, I thought i'd share this interesting write up on some of the best cassette decks ever made, by a self-confessed cassette and R2R nutter!
  4. Hey folks, Been a while since I've jumped on the SNA forums - good to see, lively as ever I just acquired a Nakamichi BX-300 cassette deck from an eBay seller in NSW, despite the listing claiming "all ok!" it seems to be way off with speed. This unit has variable pitch control (luckily) and I've found that at 12 o clock, it's too slow. I've tried to match it with several albums I own retail copies on cassette and LP... found the sweet spot is around 3 o clock on the pitch control. Gave it a whirl recording at 3 o clock, but when playing back it sounded too fast. I'm thinking that the pitch control is ignored for recording purposes (rightly so, but would be great if someone can confirm this) Anything recorded on this deck sounds perfect with the pitch controller at 12 o clock, and although I have to correct for anything not recorded on this unit - I have noticed that the speed is very consistent, so I'm doubting this to be a mechanical issue, likely that this just needs calibration (how it got this far out, I couldn't say) Obviously my next step will be to actually contact the seller. Whether they want to service it themselves or give a partial refund, I dunno... We'll see how that pans out... For now though I'm thinking that I can probably find a cassette with test tones i.e. 1khz, 2khz, 3khz and use some software to count the frequency as I poke around inside - until the frequencies match what is expected. Just figured it'd be wise to run this by the good folk at SNA before I create a bigger problem (also, anyone familiar with this unit - your input is especially appreciated!)

  6. Item: Nakamichi Soundspace 8 Sound System w/ 2 remotes, cables and original manual Condition: Fantastic, has been through a range of testing within the last few days. Some wear to the label on the back of the main unit, but that's about it! Extra Info: This model has an optical output for the CD player. Work out the placement of the main unit, and then suddenly you have not only an amazing micro-system, but also a Nakamichi CD transport for your primary hi-fi system/headphone setup! You can even use both the CD transport and player functions at the same time, potentially allowing for multi-room CD playback. Nakamichi never really advertised the CD transport functionality properly at the time (brochure with specs here: hfe_nakamichi_soundspace_8_brochure_en.pdf ), but it works amazingly well. Did I mention that this thing looks absolutely incredible? It really is a timeless piece. Location: Eastern Suburbs of Sydney Price: Now only $200 400 ONO Price reduced to $330 or nearest offer. $270 now, come and get it! Reason for selling: I don't have that much of a CD collection. 9. Item: Nakamichi DVD-10s Location: Melbourne, SE-Suburbs Price: $95 Item Condition: Good Reason for selling: Surplus Payment Method: Cash, Paypal, EFT Extra Info: My first ever DVD player. From memory I spent way more than I should of at the time going all in early on in the DVD evolution. I was young, I was stupid and I'd just received my first Purchase from Audio Trends back when they were in Wantirna. It's a good little unit in terms of sound quality and would be suitable as a CD or SACD transport for hifi set ups which is what I have been using it for. Any way as part of my big equipment purge it needs to go... Pictures:

  14. Item: Hofmann Power amp, Nakamichi 610 preamp, Nakamichi 480 cassette deck Nakamichi cm300 microphonesx3 $400, Goodmans loudspeakers Location:Hobart Price: Neg. Nak 480 $300, 610 $250 Goodmans $500??? Hofmann amp $350? Item Condition: mostly Good for age-see below Reason for selling:upgrade! Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only, Can ship if there is interest. Extra Info: Nakamichi 610 now sold pending collection in sydney next week Selling on behalf of a colleague. Some things to note: all working when last used (recently) with the exception of cassette deck- drawer is stuck. Probably an easy fix, shall try to have a look when i get time. Nakamichi 610 pre is working, however some of the selector buttons are fiddly/noisy but do work with a bit of patience. Meter lights need replacement. Now for the interesting stuff: Hofmann amp- probably the only one in existence! It was made in Melbourne around 1977 by Mr Hoffmann who was a bass player in MSO at the time. As this customer already had the 610 preamp, he built a power amp only version of his integrated (see brochure below for specs). It sounds decent but was replaced as it didn't like the lowish impedance of Legend Kantu. It certainly sounded better than i had expected! Seems to be an IC based design and runs fairly cool. We assume it has the same 100watts per channel output and has protection circuits built in. Nakamichi cm300 Microphones x 3 come with both cardioid and Omni capsules. They will need new batteries which i'm told can be found/made at battery world. Pics too follow but plenty on the net. Goodmans 'Optim' speakers: Very little info in the net about these, but cabinets appear to have been made in Australia by a Melb hifi dealer Tivoli. See spec sheet in last pic. They work well, no problems. Typical goodmans sound, some marks on cabinet. All gear was purchased as a system in around 1977, one owner. Id anyone has info on the speakers, we'd be keen to hear more. Prices are negotiable and any guidelines would be welcomed. The Nakamichi gear seems to fetch wildly different prices on ebay so not sure what to ask. Can audition by appointment in Blackmans Bay. Pictures:
  15. Item: 4 Nakamichi jumpers with spades. Location: Perth (Willagee) Price: 30.00 Item Condition: New, never used. Reason for selling: Not needed. Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: Postage for Australia $15 Pictures:
  16. Item: Power Amp Price Range: 0-750$ give or take Item Condition: Used Extra Info: Looking for a dual channel power amp, 100W/channel minimum preferred. I like things with cooling fins, but that isn't necessary. Open to all options up to $750, please let me know what you have. I'm looking for a dedicated power amp only, no integrated, etc. Happy to arrange courier if you're interstate and are willing to box it up safely. I'm located in Melbourne - Happy to travel state-wide for the right one. Dream would be a Nakamichi PA5/PA7 (obviously flexible on price limits for the latter)
