  1. Sorry it this has already been reported but couldnt find anything when I searched SNA, and thought it deserved its own thread. Ifi has released new XMOS firmware 5.30 Cookies & Cream for nearly all ifi DACs (iLINK and original iDAC are the only exceptions) so they are now able to unfold/decode/render MQA files. From ifi website: https://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://ifi-audio.com/audio_blog/mqa-firmware/&ved=2ahUKEwjvmofE26TaAhUCT7wKHaqBCXQQFjADegQIBhAB&usg=AOvVaw2AIwcAvM1WFb1EqXHEVjgl iFi_audio_PR_Extra_Ordinary_MQA_Easter_Egg.pdf
  2. Hi Everyone Hope you all are staying safe, making the most use of the music gear you own, and wondering how and why did we reach the situation we are in today. Anyways.. MQA DACs ? Can someone please help me understand whats the benefit of such a DAC over others. My MQA encoded song library is increasing and use Audirvana. I saw SMSL M500 , is being touted as an exceptional entry point MQA DAC for the price. Currently I use, Questlye CMA 600i and RME ADI -2 DAC FS. Is there really worth spending in an MQA DAC or is it more marketing than anything ? Any other MQA DAC that I should consider ? (only for head-fi setup / listening, NO HT or speakers) Thanks
  3. Does anyone know why nearly every DAC that does MQA will only do it via USB input? Is there any technical reason for this restriction? If I'm limited by my streamer to digital SPDIF output then MQA decoding via USB input only is not useful. Please share your knowledge.
  4. Hi All I have finally managed to get my Devialet 440 connected to a Roon core running on an Intel NUC up and running. One issue I can't solve though is that wherever I play an MQA encoded file via Tidal, Roon shows the source as being 'low quality' i.e. the quality light next to the source stage is amber. There are two areas in the Devialet device set up where you can configure MQA support, under MQA Capabilities and under the advanced settings 'Enable MQA Core Decoder'. I have tried multiple combinations but can't get the signal path to be anything but low quality. If anyone can advise me of the correct settings I would be very grateful. HiFian

  6. I am considering the purchase of a new DAC, my key requirements being: It supports MQA It has a preamplifier built in with Home Theatre (HT) Bypass (supporting balanced XLR inputs from an AV preprocessor) The sound quality should be a substantial upgrade over my Marantz AV8802A AV preprocessor Not essential, but it ideally should have network streaming built in, with the primary objective to stream Tidal I’m finding it surprisingly difficult to find units that tick all the above boxes. Specifically very few DACs have HT Bypass. I’d like to connect the DAC directly to my amplifier to bypass my AV system (but have the AV system connected to the same amplifier via HT Bypass). I could connect the DAC to the Marantz 8802A in pure direct mode but I understand that the Marantz will still do an A to D and D to A conversion for the volume control, which would restrict the performance of the DAC. Correct me if I’m wrong here. So the two candidates I’ve seen so far are: Simaudio Moon 890 Mytek Manhattan II Has anyone had experience with the above DAC/preamps? Any other DACs to consider? Really at the start of my investigations so look forward to hearing any thoughts or recommendations based on the above mentioned intentions. My gear is B&W 804D3, Simaudio Moon 860A, Marantz AV8802A, Rel S/3 SHO subwoofer connected via high level inputs, streaming via Audirvana via UPnP or the Tidal app on iOS. Thanks in advance
  7. Further information: Another product that's been sitting in it's box waiting for comparison reviews so it's clean-out time. As you can see from the images, there are some signs of wear near the headphone socket and one small chip in the paint on the side, but the USB plug is still solid (like it was when new) and the device has been kept and cared for well since new. Comes with all original packaging and documents Photos: PLEASE READ If you include any reference to pricing whatsoever in this section (excluding RRP), your ad will not be approved If you are advertising multiple items, you must post one bulk price only, or post seperate ads for each item If you don't include photographs of the actual item being sold, your ad will not be approved You understand that a reasonable donation for selling fees is expected upon successful sale of your item
  8. Further information: I bought these for testing on the channel and although I'd love to keep them as a reference point for other reviews, I can't justify have them sitting in their boxes waiting for equivalent products to compare so they need to find a new home. These are very lightly used - only for the review and one or two comparisons (mostly the amp). All original boxes, manuals and accessories provided (see images) Happy to discuss splitting, but would prefer to keep them together as a stack. 9. Further information: NAD Masters series M10 BluOS streaming amplifier. (RRP is $4499) I have owned this amplifier since October 2019, and it is a joy to use. Sound quality and the BluOS operating system leave Sonos for dust, and it is flexible and granular in its search capabilities of your own music library. BluOS is currently rated to support libraries of over 200,000 tracks, which is a hell of a lot of albums. Having Airplay2 and Bluetooth is very useful, and if you have Bluetooth headphones, the M10 supports listening to them via two-way aptX HD. Having MQA decoding on-board is a fantastic way to get the most out of Tidal Masters. It's a lot of fun to compare CD to Hi-Res Audio versions of the same recordings, and listen for the improvements. The M10 is a mighty amplifier, using NAD's Hybrid Digital nCore high-end technology (as seen in other NAD high-end Masters series amplifiers), and has won many product-of-the-year awards. This is the hot amplifier on the market right now, and has been incredibly well-designed. The choice of screens to use on the front display is a great touch. NAD have a nice page on the design of the M10 here: https://nadelectronics.com/behind-the-design-of-the-nad-m10/ A datasheet can be found here: https://nadelectronics.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/NAD-M10-Data-Sheet-1.pdf I am regretfully selling as part of a merge of two households. The amp is in very good condition, and I'm happy to answer any questions on it. The following text is from NAD's website: https://nadelectronics.com/product/m10-bluos-streaming-amplifier/ The audio world has shifted. Where once available solely on discs, the best quality of music is now delivered over the internet. Not only does it sound better, but entire catalogues of recorded music are more accessible than ever before. Curated playlists make music selection and discovery easy and fun, while multi-room wireless audio multiplies the possibilities. The NAD Masters M10 combines all of this goodness with state-of-the-art amplification to make it an all-in-one solution that will transport you to your favourite musical destination. MUSIC MEANT TO BE HEARD, NOT SEEN The NAD M10 represents a new kind of high-end audio system that is luxurious and smart, but very discreet. It can perform the same functions that once required a rack full of components and in many ways is superior. The elegant form factor takes up very little space and can even be hidden away, but the beautiful design and colourful display will encourage you to place the M10 front and centre.
