  1. Item: NAD M51 DAC Location: Richmond, Victoria Price: $850 Item Condition: as new - used Reason for selling: upgraded to PS Audio Directstream Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: NAD M51 DAC For sale is my trusty NAD M51 DAC. It offers a lovely sound, and excellent flexibility as it can operate as a digital pre-amp. It was well & copiously reviewed upon release around 6 years ago. I've had this unit for 3 years. It has been kept in the rack in a smoke + pet free environment. The unit is in very good condition. Operationally, it is excellent. Cosmetically, also excellent. It comes with original boxes and remote. NAD says (https://nadelectronics.com/product/m51-direct-digital-dac/): "One of our Masters Series’ finest components to date, the M51 Direct Digital™ DAC uses the same high precision digital processing as our groundbreaking M2 Direct Digital Amplifier, but in a new format that easily interfaces with high performance analogue components, including our M22 Stereo Power Amplifier. With features such as extremely low noise, low distortion, wide dynamic range, superb linearity and exceptionally low digital jitter, the M51 will help bring your home theatre system to life. With the ability to accept PCM data rates up to 24 bit/192kHz, the M51 makes it perfect for listening to high resolution downloads, allowing you to hear your favourite songs in the best audio quality possible. Possessing two HDMI inputs and one output with video pass through, the M51 seamlessly becomes the heart of a video 2.0 system, further displaying the M51’s remarkable versatility and innovation..." "While the M51 includes the industry standard SPDIF, AES/EBU, Optical and Coaxial inputs, it also includes the latest USB technology called USB Audio Class 2. USB Audio Class 2 supports sample rates of 192kHz releasing the previous limitation of USB at 96kHz. A device USB port is included allowing direct connection of a PC or Mac. The M51 offers two HDMI inputs and one output with video pass through. This opens up the possibility of using the M51 Direct Digital DAC as the heart of a “Video 2.0” system using the mandatory two-channel linear PCM soundtrack from Blu-ray or DVD to make a compelling two-channel high definition theatre presentation. Many symphony orchestras and some specialty music labels are also released in HD recordings on Blu-ray or DVD. The M51 is fully 3D video compatible but there is no surround sound decoding or video processing...." Reviewers said: (Stereophile) "I admit to having been a little suspicious at first of the PCM-to-PWM approach that NAD has taken in the M51. That was before I'd had a chance to live with it for a couple months. Nothing raised an eyebrow, and the claimed benefits in jitter rejection and filter design have obviously paid off. I prefer DACs that reveal as much as possible about what was captured on the tape or in the digits, and couldn't care less about adding a rose-colored tint to dodgy digital sound. In this regard, the NAD M51 succeeds with a wonderfully detailed and revealing sound best described as honest, with a friendly smile. And it was a pleasure to listen to. In other words, bitstream brilliance." Read more at https://www.stereophile.com/content/nad-m51-direct-digital-da-converter-page-2#euZkR1lJvjSOgScr.99 (What Hifi - https://www.whathifi.com/nad/m51/review) "The M51 sounds sensational. In fact, we’d go further than that by saying it’s one of the best NAD separates we’ve heard in recent memory." (SoundStageHifi - https://www.soundstagehifi.com/index.php/equipment-reviews/498-nad-masters-m51-direct-digital-digital-to-analog-converter) "The DAC market is a crowded place. To make any headway, a new entrant -- even one from a thoroughly established brand like NAD -- needs to offer something special. Feature-wise, the Masters M51 matches its competition, and ups the ante with those two HDMI inputs and its pass-through facility, making it the only high-end DAC of which I’m aware that really fits in the two-channel home-theater space ... The M51’s sound, too, is something a bit different. Other DACs take a tighter hold on the music, tease out more detail, or create a better-defined soundstage. What the Masters M51 offers is a sound that’s smooth, laid-back, and always pleasant, no matter what you throw at it. Its slight favoring of the midrange imbues the sound with just a hint of extra warmth. For many listeners, such a combination is a recipe for audio bliss." Pictures:

  4. Item: NAD M51 Dac Location: NE Victoria Price: $850 Price reduced for New Year now $750 + postage (firm) Item Condition: Very Good Reason for sale: Raising funds for preamp repair Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, EFT Extra Info: With remote and original boxes and packing (can post) I have owned this from new (about 4 years) it has been used for around half that time, as I upgraded my disc player that included a good internal DAC. There is plenty of info and reviews on the net about the M51 and it is a handy piece of kit. It can drive a power amp directly and can also strip the audio from an HDMI signal and pass the video to a TV. Note that there is a small mark on the top cover. It still has the original firmware installed, so this can be upgraded if you wish. The only issue I have ever had with the M51 (which is a documented problem with the firmware) was when switching the HDMI input from a MAC to Windows the M51 would lockup and need the power reset. The updated firmware I believe fixed this. I can post the item (at cost) as I have all the original boxes and packing. Pictures:

  10. Item: Nad M51 Dac Silver Location: Kingaroy Price: $1350 Posted ($1999 RRP) Item Condition: New Reason for selling: See Below Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only Extra Info: I'm thinking about trying out a Nad M51 Dac., but i'm not sure it'll better the M1 Musical Fidelity I have. At this stage before I decide to go ahead, i'm putting feelers out to see if anyone would be keen on a basically new one if I decide I don't like it. It will be about 3 weeks at a guess before I'd be selling, but I intend to put it in the system, do a few A/B comparisons over a few days and have a listen, If it doesn't do anything special for me, it'd be up for sale with probably 10-20hours use and all packaging etc.

  12. Item: NAD M51 DAC (silver) Location: Bellfield, Victoria Price: Sold Item Condition: 9/10, only some hairline scratches on the display which can only be seen up-close at certain angles Reason for selling: upgraded Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal + 2.4% Extra Info: Brilliant DAC which kept me away from the upgrade path for many years. Bought it to replace my Wyre for Sound DAC-1 and it beat the DAC-1 in every area imaginable. It was more natural sounding, bigger more realistic staging and timbres were much more natural compared to the DAC-1. Impressive functionality as well as you can use it as a pre-amp directly into your power amp. I found the balanced out-puts to sound better and the best sounding input for me was AES. Compared to my Schiit Yggdrasil at 2.5 times the cost it doesn't fall far behind at all. The M51 still has a bigger soundstage and dreamier vocals, however the Yggdrasil is a bit more detailed but retaining that easy to listen to character. Somedays I still wonder if it was worth buying the Yggdrasil as I could not arrange a home trial for the Yggdrasil so I had to buy it to try it. I am the 1st owner of the M51, and will provide an original purchase receipt (14/5/13) for the buyer. Pick-up is preferred as I have discarded the original boxes when I moved, however if there is firm interest interstate I will be able to package it appropriately for shipping. PM for shipping quotes. Donation will be made upon sale of item. Pictures:
